Play are the ones to watch I got my medicom Yoda for £25 at one point.
I had heard they were selling them off at £99 would have point one at the time if I had known myself.

Now that the getting for Threepio is starting to dry up at its original (&, yes, outrageous) retail price, I decided to spring for it a couple weeks back & now, all the way from Tokyo, here he is fresh out of the box...

I know there are a lot of Medicom haters here, but I am definitely not among them! And, now that Sideshow has gotten us used to a $175 price point for IG-88, spending a little more to add what is easily the best 1/6 scale figure of everyone's favorite protocol droid in my collection was absolutely worth it.

Of course, even I gotta admit, this extravagant purchase hurt me in the pocketbook enough that I couldn't justify getting Medicom's R2-D2 as well. Being out of scale to Threepio bothered me too much, so my $15 Hasbro version will have to suffice for now.

However, Threepio looks fantastic next to my Tatooine Luke (which I cobbled together by putting the Stormtrooper Luke head onto my Sideshow Indiana Jones Prometheus body). Since Anthony Daniels & Mark Hamill were roughly the same height, I'm not really seeing any scale issues here.

I know Medicom's RAH Star Wars line has had its share of ho-hum offerings which has even had the tendency to divide us into either their camp or Sideshow's. However, I can't see why we can't be both. I had zero problem passing on Sideshow's Yoda when it came out simply because I didn't think it looked as good as Medicom's VCD figure (the decision was even easier to live with when I put it in Sideshow's superior outfit thanks to the fine folks at Toy Anxiety).

IMHO, this C-3PO figure is an all around winner. I was almost willing to let him go because of its ridiculous MSRP, which I've some to understand has more to do with the rising value of the Japanese Yen to the US dollar than what we may think is Medicom's inflated sense of itself. And, with Sideshow's highly anticipated Boba Fett coming down the pike, I'm personally unsure if it'll be able to replace the place in my heart (& my shelf) where my Medi Fett sits. Beyond that, who knows how long it'll be until Sideshow makes its own attempt at a 1/6 Threepio. All I know is how fortunate we should all feel as collectors to be able to purchase such amazing figures, no matter the company that produces them.

Amen brother...Amen.

I agree to that everyday. We are all spoiled for choice..sometimes we are blind to it....

He looks great. Congratulations on getting the Tony Daniels costume. It really is spectacular in hand.

If your looking for an in scale R2, try the Taito alarm clock R2. It's perfectly in scale with this 3PO and all the other 1/6 figs.

Your Leia looks incredible. Good call on the GG head.

I would love to get the Medi C3 and R2, but this year is supposed to be when the SSC versions come out (or at least shown.)

I agree that the SSC versions will possibly be the price of the Medi ones, but I'm so curious to see if they can better the Medi in terms of quality/articulation.

While IG-88 was $175, he was a mold that could maybe be used one more time (Clone Wars version perhaps) but C3 and R2 will have many reuses for SSC, so it's possible the price on them may be reasonable because of this.

So this is not just rumour/speculation, it's actually happening? Awesome. I don't care about articulation so much with these two - if the scale and surface finish are good I'll be happy.

The medicom c-3po is a dilemma for me, on the one hand it seems like the perfect rendition of the character, that perhaps sideshow's wont fully match so i may as well get it now before it vanishes (he is also in scale unlike most medicom things isnt he?), but on the other hand... sideshow's c3po may be better or as good as for cheaper.

either way i may wait till nearer the sideshow c3po release, that way i'd have seen it and alot of medi owners will be ebaying theirs.

also i wish i saw it on play.com for £99 or whatever it was... id buy 2 just to repaint one red or something haha (awesomeness missed :( )

It's definitely worth buying mate. What's the point worrying what come down the pipe? If you start second guessing you'll stop collecting fully stop haha.
Take a chance with it, it's beautiful

Yeah, that Taito Artoo is high on my wish list, which may be harder to find at this point than it is to get the Medicom C-3PO at retail. It hasn't even popped up on eBay in awhile. Anyone seen it available anywhere lately?

what does back order mean in this case? may be sold out :(

I e-mailed these guys a few weeks back & could never get a guarantee from them that they'll be able to get anymore of those Threepios.

No not even close, he is too short and IMO too skinny.

I just busted the ruler out & the Medicom Threepio does comes up to 11 1/4" in height with an extra 1/4" coming from the suit's helmet "frame" that goes around the top of where Anthony Daniels head would actually be inside the helmet. If Anthony Daniels is 5' 9" then I admit the figure should really be an extra 1/2" taller if it's to represent an accurate 1/6 scale model.

Personally, however, that tiny margin of error becomes insignificant when I stand it up next to Sideshow's figures, especially next to Tatooine Luke here. And if definitely looks better than Hasbro's 12" Threepio, which never used to bother me until now.

Even as expensive as it was, with less accessories & no fancy-schmancy light-up stand, it feels like a more essential purchase than Sideshow's IG-88 because, well, it's Threepio! And who knows how long it will be until Sideshow's, or even Hot Toys,' version is out, much less be sure they can produce a better figure? I guess I'm just not as patient as others here.

I'm still holding out for Sideshow's 3P0. I've been buying these things for so long, I can wait. ;)

As beautiful as this 3P0 is, he's about 1/7th scale, not 1/6th. Here's how tall 3P0 is next to Luke:

Sure, Luke is a little slouched, but 3P0 is taller, and bigger than Luke. Don't get me wrong, Medi's 3P0 is a work of art! But I'm going to wait.......

Dont worry about the price difference with Medicom and Sideshow..by the time he is released from sideshow he will be over $200
