I think the series would have actually been better without the addition of Peace Walker. Portable Ops had already answered the question as to how Big Boss was able to finance the making of Outer Heaven, and that was a good premise to start off with the next Solid Snake chapter (aka. a remake of one of the original Metal Gear games).

Plus, if the storyline for MGS 1 and MGS 2 were to hold true, the AIs in Peace Walker were just way too advance for their time. Even the Peace Walker mech was capable of wiping the floor with REX and RAY, given all of its offensive capabilities.

Damn straight. The plot holes in PW are out of control technology wise. In MGS, you want to push the envelope by making the tech a little more advanced then what it is in reality for that time. But how is it ZEKE has more capability than REX or RAY?

MPO gets a bad rap, not as bad as people think. In terms of story I honestly think it fits better with the over story than Peace Walker. PW didn't really add anything to the story or mythos of Big Boss at all.

Big Boss is so watered down at this point, and their doing MGS5 with him as the lead.

Bring back Solid Snake, enough of Big Boss *********.

Very true. I think someone else mentioned in this thread (or one of the other MGS threads that we have going), that Kojima considers Portable Ops like his "dirty little secret" because he wasn't involved with making that game. Well, to me, it makes a heck of a lot more sense than Peace Walker ever did, in terms of actually being relevant to the actual Metal Gear storyline.

Peace Walker just felt more like a spin-off. If someone never played it, they won't be missing out on much (if anything at all). With Portable Ops on the other hand, we learned of the beginnings of Gray Fox (aka. Null), and also of the over-arching conspiracy with the Patriots and "the man with the same code name as Null". That game was an awesome follow-up to MGS 4, and it would have been great if Kojima actually followed through with a few more Solid Snake games. Just like you, I'm getting really tired of all of the attention that Big Boss is getting. His time in the lime-light should have ended with Portable Ops (or maybe even with MGS 3).

Agreed. I'm sick of Big Boss.

I think Metal Gear Solid is getting a little bit too much of what I like to call the "Final Fantasy" syndrome. Where a story gets recycled somewhat (in this case, saving the world from a "Metal Gear" nuclear tank and crazed villain) and the overall plots and sub-plots get way too crazy and out of control that they stop making sense. I think it just seems to be in the Japanese nature to make these complicated storylines and they even get lost in their own mythology.

Stick to simplicity again, like MGS1 and MGS2. It started getting messy with all these young Big Boss games. MGS3 was great but they should've left it there...and like it has been mentioned, the technology idea was getting out of control.

I'm with you guys, enough Big Boss. Bring back Solid Snake.

I hate to say it, but I think Metal Gear is at risk of getting FUBARed. Konami wants money, Kojima kind of/sort of is done with the series and the fans want more. The Japanese UNFORTUNATELY aren't in the nature to take risks and keep a concise plot going. I would not be surprised if at some point Kojima and Konami decide to reboot the series and start from scratch a brand new and simple "Metal Gear".

You're definitely right about the Final Fantasy syndrome, and Konami trying to milk all that they can out of MGS.

The one thing that really annoys me, is that Big Boss used to be this mythological character, but now we know more about him than Solid Snake. Also, he was an evil mad-man in Metal Gears 1 and 2, but it turns out that he was actually a good guy and everyone was just wrong about his intentions of saving the world.

The plot line has really gotten messy. Sometime, I try to sit down and piece together where the series was, and where it is today, but I often find myself thinking "wtf". It's a lot of wrap your mind around... I don't even think Kojima knows what he's doing anymore - besides raking in the big bucks, that is.

But, I still love the series for what it is. Even if Peace Walker didn't make any sense to me, the script was still pretty good and I consider it as one of the best games that I played in 2010. Lots of replay value, and the extra ops missions were highly addicting.

Well, I like the idea of Big Boss being this tragic hero/reluctant villain. He sort of ends up becoming the villain because he's tired of "the system" that he had been trying to fight against for years. That is an interesting tale in itself. BUT it has clearly become a primary focus over Solid Snake.

BUT...they could've done it in maybe THREE games. MGS 3, MGS Peacewalker and Portable Ops could've been combined into ONE game, and then whatever MGS 5 is or the last game that solidifies Big Boss as a "bad guy". If anything...the whole "Big Boss" saga should have been a spin-off series as I have always seen Metal Gear SOLID as belonging to SOLID Snake. And don't get me started on the "Old Snake" and his rapid aging....what a JOKE. Even the first test-tube baby in the world aged normally and so do those clone sheep in the UK.

I think part of the reason was that Sony pushed Konami for some Metal Gear games on their portable systems. And it did give Kojima a chance to tell the story of Big Boss on a smaller platform, it has left a sour taste in the fans' mouths. What used to be a really treasured series has become almost too sensational and watered down. The story really is beginning to get all over the place.

While PeaceWalker is a cluster____ in terms of canon, it was a good story(for the most part).
PO was a disgusting game to play, jst horrible in MetalGear standards the story was not bad except some stuff like the greyfox-null thing.

I think Kojima s doingBigBosses story since Solids ended with MGS4. I don't see why he cant make spinoffs with SNake in Philanthropy set before or after MGS2?? With closed stories ala Uncharted series

Were first introduced to Solid Snake, the one we love, in MGS1. And he is more interesting in that than all the Big Boss games combined. Big Boss is just stale at this point. Had fun with him in MGS3, but as he said to Snake "Let it go."

Aging is theoretically related to the length of telomeres at the end of chromosomes. With each cell division, telomeres shorten. Once the cell has undergone sufficient amounts of cell division, the telomeres are gone and you start losing genes at the ends of chromosomes with each cell division instead of losing pieces of telomeres. Obviously, that would lead to gradual loss of function in a person as they begin to lose genes which code for important functions. All you would really need to do to cause accelerated aging, theoretically, is set up the clone's telomeres to be shorter than the original's. Naomi herself says something similar:

I can't post links to videos yet, so I had to leave out the "www".

Theoretically, aging is linked to the length of the telomeres at the ends of chromosomes. With each round of cell division, the telomeres get shorter and shorter. Once they are gone, the genes at the ends of chromosomes get lost with each round of cell division. This will lead to the degeneration of the individual as he loses genes that code for important functions. You could conceivably engineer a clone to have a much shorter lifespan than the original by deliberately shortening its telomeres so the clone will degenerate quicker than the original. Naomi even says something to that effect:

I decided not to have the video embedded here because otherwise it won't go straight to 1 minutes 40 seconds, so just copy and paste that link.

The frame shown in this video alone is enough to not watch it. This stupid ____ing viral game they got going on their facebook page is retarded. I almost just want to get rid of it... but you can't because it's MGS you know?

MGR is the beginning of the end of MGS.

Metal Gear is just a cash cow to Konami at this point and it's utters are bleeding.

Kojima why oh why didn't you leave the franchise after MGS4?

His team really ruined the MGS4 story since Kojima didn't have the creative freedom he wanted with it.

I will continue to by the merchandise (Play Arts, Hot Toys, 3A) but as for the games... I will get them... even though they are worn so thin and beaten to death at this point.

One small detail at the end:

MGRR demo will be included with ZOE Collection! :yess:

Hehe, I remember everyone buying ZOE for the MGS 2 demo. Why not try it again!

After watching the Rising trailer, I'm getting a sandbox vibe. I haven't followed this game at all, so I don't know, but it kinda has that look to me. I had no interest before, but tha could change things.
