As for the crotch grabbing, it was clearly a way to make American Presidents ashamed of their words and deeds- an antithesis to the clean, just image of American Presidents who usually don't grab people by the crotch. See? This game is deeper than you'd think!

In all seriousness though, MGS2 isn't perfect, sure- but it has the biggest ideas, it was the most daring. It's Kojima actually successful at being avant garde (for once) and nothing since has came remotely close. It took the idea of an established mythology and made it transcend the sum of its' parts. It's the Terminator 2 of videogames.

Ummm I don't think there was a purpose to Raiden looking like a butch lesbian, the crotch grabbing and such or him being nude amongst a few other things but the major elements and even other smaller ones were relevant.

Also gonna say this but I never quite liked any version of Kojima. I would take the old one over this new one who is clearly going out of his way to appeal to hipster millennials.

I chalk it up to Kojima weirdness... to be fair Raiden didn't sound like a twink in the Japanese version IIRC. Another thing, since we know Raiden was supposed to be just our avatar who looks and sounds nothing like Snake (our expectation for the game) who later discards the player's identity at the end... so I can give leeway to the Gay undertones.

Indeed. There's a correlation between Raiden slowly revealing his past and the player loosing control of him. By the time he tosses the player's dog tags, he was already his own person.

And yes, you can tell straight away it's one of the rare time Kojima's quirkiness works to his advantage. Remember the pervy B&B unit in MGS4 trying to be artsy fartsy? Didn't work. Or the Peace Walker AI trying a deliver a piss poor message of peace with those floating virtual butterflies. Or the entirety of V.

The gay undertones is strange when you realize Raiden was confirmed straight...with Volgin I can buy that.

That dog tag thing blew my mind though but yeah, MGS 2 (and the series as a whole and each individual title) isn't perfect. What it does great is pretty great.

Sweet, perfect timing. I just got a Vita to be my MGS hub! Love the thing. (I also got it for the crack, so I can get some snes on the go)

Raider sounded just as manly as Snake is the Japanese version. Personally I would have case batman beyond is raiders VO. He wouldn't not have come off as bad.

Will Friedle probably could have done good, I can see his Terry McGinnis voice fitting Raiden...though he would have to make it more high pitched or something maybe.

We need more Will Friedle anyway!

Appreciate it fellas. I'm still sharpening my skill after not sketching anything for well over a year. I thought about tomorrow doing a small collage of just random character profiles in black and white. Maybe the FOX-HOUND crew or something.

Dat watercolor brush doe, does wonders. As does the standard paint brush, it gives that parallel looking stroke and does most of the work.
