Oh, what the heck, I'll guess I'll start it off here with my ID names and stuff on this post. I"ll edit it and add more names as they come. Maybe we'll start a new thread or something some other time... but until then.

Remember to sign up and get your Konami Game ID from this site.

Apparently, it's the Konami Game ID we see in the game and not the PSN ID.

I have never played a single Metal Gear game. I doubt I'll get these although they look nice. I just generally keep my gaming to the 360 and use the PS3 as a BR player.

We should all get names with Animals referenced in it, make it feel more "Metal Gearish". Keeping in theme like Grey Fox and Solid Snake, Sniper wolf etc. etc.

As a matter of fact all the soliders you capture in Metal Gear portable ops have animal name " Bear, bee, wolverine" etc.

so maybe names like "Bruising Bear" or Crazy Tarantula, or just SPIDER... I dunno just throwing that out here, since this name is only used in Metal Gear Online right?

Man, you are missing out on just about the very best storyline for any game ever. The MG stroyline blows the FF storyline out of the water. And I love FF, don't get me wrong, but it gets way to convoluted at times. And rarely carry on the same story from one game to the next. You should definitely pick this game up. If not for the story, then just for the game, as it will be an absolutely amazing one.

Hell, I'm going to venture now that either MGS4 or GTA4 will be the GOTY!

I do

You are :)

YESS !!! best story line.
If you never played the games you have time now to play all the games till MSG4 comes out.

Trust me !! you are going to love it.
I hope the movie will follow the story line to a T.

That's a great idea! Now to think of a cool animal name...

Final Fantasy has been on a downward slope in my opinion. Yes it still gets good scores for graphics, roleplaying, etc. but it has not been good since FFVII. Perhaps that's why Square is doing so much to expand the FFVII Universe...

They've utlized the SAME designer for FFVIII,FFX,FFX-2,FFXI,FFXII and of course of FFXIII...it's all the neo-Japanese punk/beachwear look with crazy hair and the characters are utterly devoid of any "coolness" they reeked even BEFORE going Next-Gen.

On top of characters that haven't appealed to me in a while, the storylines are boring and the NPCs I just don't care for.

I wasn't happy either with some of the IMPOSSIBLE tasks needed to get Ultimate items. Dodge 250 lightning bolts in FFX to get the Saturn Sigil? F THAT! I don't mind hard challenges but don't make them the most impossible and BORING challenges.

The last...BEST FF was FFVII.....it's a shadow of its former self. I stopped playing FF with FFX (so bored with it I didn't even finish) and I didn't even finish FFVIII and FFIX because some of my frustrations with the game designs.

Back to MGS....I'm excited for the new one!!!

First of all, "coolness" is relative to each individual. Second, if FF is is on a downward slope then why does each successive release still sell millions of copies the week it releases?

I'm not a huge fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, and I'm not enamored with most of the character designs, but I won't fault the game mechanics and rules. It's a Japanese RPG and as such it has different sensibilities than those of western rpgs. And I don't know what you meant when you said they utilized the "same designer" for the FF games you mentioned, because no, they did not.

I will agree with you on some points, however. The side/optional tasks are often monotonous and very repetitive. But they are optional, you don't have to play them to enjoy a lengthy main game. To return to a prior point I made, it's all relative (I'm talking about games, not physics), a side mission you think is boring could be fun to another gamer, be that person Japanese or otherwise.

I like FFVII as much as the next FFVII fan, but everything about it except it's story and lineage is overrated. And Squeenix has done a fine job of burying FFVII's legacy into the ground with recent releases. Well, at least Crisis Core was interesting.

Ok, back to MGS4; I just registered for a Konami ID, a requirement for the upcoming MG Online Beta. It was an easy enough ordeal but I hate that they require you to input your home address and phone number. Why would they need your phone number?

But it's complete, and I came up with an animal name. See me online as: Sand_Whale. I know, not the most intimidating name, but it's from a story a read.

Can't wait!

How did we get on FF? First off the same art director has worked on all of them...go look at all the original character designs.

And FFX was awesome...so I'm gonna say nope, nope on a downward spiral. And VII will always be the best.

Um, Bardoon mentioned FFIX, FFXI and FFXII, those two games did not share the art director of FFVII, VIII, and X/X-2, Tetsuya Nomura. Yoshi.taka Amano did artwork for most of the games, but he wasn't lead art director on many of the PS1 and later FF games. I think I know enough about FF that I don't need to reference any of my art books.

Also, game director was not the same for each game.

I didn't want to derail this thread off topic, so yeh...MGS4 rocks.

That's why I said it's on a downward slope in my opinion. ;) Like you said it is relative to the player.

By designer I meant the character designer, namely Tetsuya Nomura (had to look him up). Researching him a little more I see he only did designs mostly for FFVII (and its 'Compilation' titles), FFVIII, FFX, FFX-2, FFXI (he was one of multiple here), and upcoming on FFXIII. It is noted that FFXII's character designs closely follow his "style". Anyways...I'm sick of his style...it sucks and it worked for FFVII and they should've stopped there. The characters have basically all looked "the same" since to me (discounting FFXI and FFIX here).

Yes I know that FF first and foremost appeals to the Japanese audience and yes I know it sells millions all the time. As a fan though I have been disappointed with the direction the series is taking. Obviously I'm not happy with the character designs as the first thing that pops out to me is "Oh...this is more of the same." or we have another emo-kid in the lead.

I'm one of those players who likes to get 100% in my RPGs. A perfect example of tackling that was FFVII. The side tasks were HARD, but not ridiculous and impossible (a la "dodging 250 lightning bolts"). I was also upset and frustrated with FFVIII and FFIX when they "blocked off" towns at that pivotal point in the game where you could run off and do what you want...or go fight the final boss. What the hell happened there?

Okay, I'm done... :banana

^ that's great, we both love FF. :D

Now we really need to get back to MGS4. So who else has registered for a Konami ID? It's a bit of an annoyance that Konami would ignore the PSN ID and force us to make another one just for MGO. But it's a minor annoyance, really.
