Pop it's a lost cause. Trust me, it's all I heard for years with Plainview. Some people just want pimp suits. I don't subscribe to the idea that you collect because of an outfit. I collect because of my interest in a character, not his costume designer's outfit selection.

My feelings exactly :goodpost:

Never any hard feelings and I agree with the idea that the charcoal suit is the most iconic look. I don't however think that any of his outfits are iconic if that makes sense. The character yes, his outfits no. That's why I really didn't care which look he came with. The only reason I ended up vocal about anything is because Turbo started trying to dictate the project as if this was some kind of dream project he's been clamoring for. I would have literally bought anything Rainman decided to do.

As for getting it done, I've been asking for a Plainview quite literally since the day I walked out of the theater. The people on here will atest to my assholishness about it. :lol I've tried to privately commission him from Andy Bergholtz, Trevor Grove, Erick Sosa, Rainman, Iminime, and even Headplay. Same result came up everytime. I introduced Rainman to the film along time ago. Back when The Dude was being made. He watched it, and got back with me that he loved the film and that he wanted to make the character. After that he was supposed to be the next figure and then he wasn't. And then again he was supposed to be the next figure and again he wasn't. This has gone on and on since the Dude with every figure that's come out and I had literally given up on it ever being made. I asked one last time for a commission and never heard back from Rainman. About a week later is when the thread popped up that it was finally being done. Needless to say I'm a happy camper and if Rainman or anyone else makes anything Plainview; I'll be there for that as well.

Couldn't be more chuffed that he finally came round for you. It is awesome to see somebody get their grail figure :duff

I am also super excited for this. Terrific film but more so the Plainview character just like how I feel about The Butcher.

Notice the placemarker for the plainview outfit set is up but no sign on the outfit set with hatted sculpt yet. Also the shotgun is pictured with the outfit set but surely that a mistake? Thought it was the exclusive fullset piece

:duff Cool bro. And I'll be all in on any Plainview offering of this level also. But don't put too much blame on Turbo. Me & him both went equally hard with our beliefs. And I probably started that fire but it's all behind us now. :)

Suuure 8th, I'm always up for a non combative, civilized convo :wink1:

I think each instance is a case to case situation and there is sometimes grey area. And of course there will be subjectiveness involved. But if it has to be be a black and white answer, 9/10 times I'll say go for the iconic/most memorable look regardless if it's the flashiest, shelf popping look or not. But it is case to case. And sometimes it works in the favor of the pimp suit fan. What most people here feel Doc's most iconic look just so happens to be the flashiest of all. What most people consider Plainview's most iconic look happens to be his most monochromatic.

At the end of the day, I'd 1000% rather have Jules & Vince in their boring ol' black suits then them in Jimmy's clothes. Especially if there was only one crack at getting them done to a high standard.

o O ( A Rainman Jules and Vince) :drool

Anton would be BONKERS! Sometimes I don't get all this emphasis on "shelf poppers" and dramitic contrast as defining terms of what's boring and what's not. I mean of course I get it, but I'm saying. Bateman, Anton, Jules & Vincent, dudes from Heat plus a few more like them are MUST haves to me. Just because you can't spot them from across the room at first glance, or they're not rockin' a Pennywise clown suit, doesn't make them boring in my eyes.
In general, I like a nice compromise. Sometimes, I'll get a figure that looks kinda boring primarily because I love the character (doing that with Iminime's Ra's al Ghul, actually). Sometimes, I'll get a character that looks really great even if the movie sucks, though almost always because I like the character for other reasons outside of the film (Ghost Rider comes to mind).

Ideally though, it's a figure that looks pretty great, and is something I love from film or TV or whatever. So, Hot Toys' Hicks (with custom head, of course), Batman Begins Batman, or Terminator, Rainman's Bill, SSC Boba Fett, etc. all fit into that category. That's why I sometimes throw out Marge from Fargo as a great potential figure from a Rainman or Iminime, because I think she would look great on the shelf, and is obviously from a fantastic film.

I won't buy a figure purely because it looks great, but I would also have a tough time buying something purely out of love for the character like, say, a Tom Reagan from Miller's Crossing were such a thing to ever be made. In the case of Ra's, he still looks pretty bad-ass and will work well in my display of other Bat-villains. I most likely wouldn't have considered buying that figure as a stand-alone.

You could sign me up right now for those boys in black if they were done at this high quality.

I made the comment that Anton would be boring. I love the movie, but it's just my opinion that he would be boring because I thought he was in the movie.

No personality, no style, etc. I get what they were doing, and I also get that everyone here loves a bad-a$$, but I wouldn't prefer him to so many other more memorable characters out there that haven't been done.

Just my opinion. With Bateman, it was more of a, we have a lot of Bale already, let's see what else can be done. I'd prefer him over Anton though.

Now, I am all for collecting characters from movies I love. Or just collecting characters I loved, regardless of the movie. And while Anton would be such a badass figure to own (I did put it in my top ten after all) I just think there are more important, visually satisfying characters to come first (Bickle comes to mind).

So while I am all for Anton at some stage, I just think that Rainman could offer us something very unique, such as Torrence or Bickle, beforehand. However it all comes down to personal opinion. Some may find Anton to be as iconic as they come and very aesthetically pleasing. Others may think that Torrence would be rather boring:dunno

exactly what i think. i totally understand the POV of going for the character rather than the outfit, but when going from a full length movie on the screen to a static representation as a figure, to me the outfit IS a big part of the character. i think with plainview, the outfit decision was actually OK because at least he wears elements of that outfit in several places. from the debates at least, it wasn't really cut and dry which outfit was the most iconic. but would the "i go for the character" argument have held as much if rainman had decided to do him in his swimming shorts? at what point does it stop being a good representation of the character you love? and that's obviously very subjective.

my POV is not really that certain characters shouldn't be made (but if they do get made i'd rather get them if they were at their most iconic, including the outfit). i know that some of us just want 1/6 representations of our favourite movie icons and characters, so it doesn't matter if people think they look "boring". i'm in the same boat. that's why i like that plainview got made. he deserved the rainman treatment. and i think that's why anton is so popular too.

anyway, congratulations to woff for FINALLY getting it :lol but he's going to have to pick a new champion otherwise i'm gonna miss his clamouring.

so here is another noob question.

I didn't pay last night when I ordered the figure due to the bill me later shenanigans.

If I'm ready to pay now do I have to cancel my order and then re-check out? I cant find any payment option under my order number. Only that its payment incomplete.

I usually write the description in the title. Something like this.....

"Rainman 1/6 Milkshake Man full set figure"

Well when I said J & V done to a high standard, I was more thinking along the lines of Iminime than Rainman :lol As much as I would love to see him take these two on, I think that each one of us would get struck by lightning 3 times and see Jesus twice before that happens.

Speak on brother Samurai!! You took the words outta my mouth and I couldn't have said it better. Ditto to all of that.

It sounds like you and I share basically the same collecting habbits. Sam has other things that motivate him to collect a certain way, Blitz has his, and so on.

Personally, my method of collecting is like you described. I want a 1/6 figure to represent all of my favorite characters and movies/shows. I don't want "car crash bloody Anton" to make him more "interesting". I want him as he appeared throughout the movie. But I don't want Prince Akeem in McDowell's worker clothes. I want him in his elaborate royal ass gear.

It's all about the love of the character/movie for me. But if there's one piece that I want just because I like the figure and I have no attachment to the movie, it's Doc. I think that piece is so f__kin' cool and it makes me wish I was a bigger Tombstone fan to justify buying it. I understand all the reasons why the purists are disappointed though. Screw it I'm going to watch it again right now. YO SHORTY, YOU MIGHT BE GETTING A CALL ABOUT YOUR DX TOMORROW!! ;)

Love the DX head.

Agreed, just incredible. I think I would be picking up a head and clothing set if it came with the hatless sculpt (for an oily version).

Yeah me too. That head is really the only reason I went with the DX. If it was the primary head I would have gone with the clothing/head set.
