Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics
Are we really debating whether the necks are to long?
There are countless pictures that show it. The worst ones are the ones that have him looking straight forward.
Well, all I'm saying is that, while lots of other people are claiming it's atrocious and obvious the neck is too long, I certainly don't think it's obvious or ugly looking. I've got this guy on my shelf and I'm looking at him - his neck, head, and body all look fine to me. I don't need pics to see my own figure, and his head is upright. Looks fine to me straight out of the box.
Platty said he thought he was the only one who didn't see the need for mods and loved him right out of the box. I was just saying that he's not the only one, that some people feel the way he does as well.
As Remy said, you can hide it if you bow his head, but even then you can see it from behind:
I mean, I can see how you might think the neck is too long in this picture, if you assume that the neck-piece is supposed to end at Bruce Wayne's neck and that his head is supposed to be entirely enclosed in the mask/cowl.
But if you look at this costume's cowl in profile, you see there's no way his head fits entirely in the cowl - the bottom/back of Wayne's head would be below the bottom/back lip of the cowl, the height of which is just below the height of the bottom of the cowl's nose.
The logical conclusion is that the bottom/back of Wayne's head is within the neck column - the armor of which also seems to serve as a bit of a neck brace (an idea also shown several times in the comics).
What I'm getting at is that the neck-piece of the action figure actually is conceptually supposed to include a portion of the head (if this were a real person). But if you assume the neck-piece is exclusive to the conceptual neck of the guy, then yes, it looks too long.
But here are a couple pics of the bowed head on the unmodded neck verses the modded neck:
Unmodded neck and the stiff Hot Toys cape:
Modded neck and lforigno's cape:
As you can see I no longer have to bow the head so extremely low.
I mean, I can't see a difference as far as the length of the neck goes and how it affects the figure in these pics. It looks like the top pic might have a bit more of a bowed head - but then, that just means these two pics aren't really good for illustrating the point you're trying to make. (If you want to show that the neck is too long, you've got to show the figure with the head in the same position, before and after a neck mod).
It should be noted that the neck mod becomes more important when you are using the custom cape. The Hot Toys cape is so bulky that it artificially inflates the hight of the shoulders. It's my theory that that is why HT made the neck so long: to disguise how crappy the cape is.
This may be an important point - I don't have a custom cape, as I quite like the Hot Toys cape (like I said, seems pretty perfect out of the box to me). So maybe that's why I also don't think the neck looks too long on mine, even without mods.
