Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I've been in discussions about the notion of Batman taking on an unarmored suit in the 3rd film and being something more like the comics where it's just like a body suit, not as cheesy as the Adam West setup, but essential just a costume to look the part without armor plates and all for protection. While at one point in time, maybe that worked in the comics and all, but in the Nolan Batman world, I'm just not sure Batman could ever be cunning and fast enough to survive in the situations he faces without being armored. Explosions, heavy machine gun fire, knives. If he weren't armored fighting Joker 1 on 1 at Dent's party or the Prewitt siege, surely he'd be dead or paralyzed, and definitely he'd have died with Dent at the end from the fall.

Hope they keep this new costume for the possible third film. It really grew on me.

Not to mention that huge ass fall he did off the balcony during Dent's party!

That too, though in that situation, you could always write for him to use the grapple gun instead, I had actually been waiting for that the first time I saw TDK, I figured he'd shoot it and hook onto something like in the Burton films, I was surprised at the "parachute" use of his cape.

He wrecked the car too. Could you imagine Batman with no carbon kevlar suit or such and he done that causing his funny elbow to get messed up. That would be amusing. Wouldn't be so "bad ass" then.

If the change truly was to aid in the story aspect of Batman's need for speed and movement and to help Bale filming, it's quite possible there will be no change in costume for the next film. There could be, but as far as filmmaking and story go, I can't think of any reason right now to change it again, they seemed to put a lot of effort into making it easier to work in for Bale already, I imagine every improvement they could make for him has been done.

well, bat2 suit is less protective than bat1 suit. I suppose if batman 3 has a new suit they (nolan and gang) can alway claim its a improvement over bat2 suit where its just as movable and offers more protection. You know, wayne goes back to fox ask for something better after he gets stabbed, kicked, punched, and break some bones in the less durable bat 2 suit.

The arm bone is connected to the elbow bone....the elbow bone is connected to the funny bone.......ahhh screw it, I don't remember that damn song anymore....

Oh well, it would just be a "Bad Ass Funny Bone!"

I would love to see him in a more traditional costume too. The one used in the Batman vs Predator film was incredible. I am more than willing to suspend belief and ignore the fact that he would be better off with some type of body armor. Maybe just go along with the idea that its a comic book hero movie????

Sounds like an alright plan.

If you look at the game Batman Asylum, he's wearing what you're describing, sort off anyways.

Now I don't particularly love the costume from that game but what you're saying could be accomplished. :rock

Which would've you preferred?

For me, I was hoping the grapple would've been utilized to help him slow down but I guess Nolan wanted the quicker more violent impact..:dunno

Another interesting concept for me when it comes to the grapple gun would've been for him at the very least to try and use it during that fall and showing it break a window or something, but not letting it latch on to anything (as in fail) and then he continues with his fall and impact.

I like that idea because it shows that just because he's a highly skilled trained Ninja (and Batman), that sometimes his gadgets won't get him out from trouble simply due to the sheer chaotic speed of his rescue fall.

Wait....I have to go watch that scene again......maybe he did whip it out and use it.....:horror

Or....maybe they didn't want Batman to look like Spiderman from 1 and 2 when he catches Mary Jane and his Aunt May and swings away.....:lol

Now I need to check out that Batman Asylum game! But maybe I better buy a game console first....

I don't think he would have had time to grab and utilize the grapple gun, what with holding onto Rachel and trying to turn her away from the impact.

Not sure if it would be able to have taken their collective weight either. Can't remember what Fox mentions in BB.

This is the batsuit from Batman: Arkham Asylum, which could be the most recent incarnation of the suit itself. A fair compromise between a material closer to fabric and an all-out armored battlesuit.

I really want a Batman figure in a fabric batsuit. The chances of HT doing a Batman figure based on a comic incarnation is slim to none, so I really hope they do away with the rubber armored suits in the 3rd Bale Batman movie. But, this means Bale has to really bulk up in order to make the suit look good. The TDK suit is, in my opinion, second only to Adam West in the "least imposing Batsuits ever" top 3 list if there ever was one.

I wouldn't count Hot Toys out on making a comic Batman. They did make comic Batman cosbabies so I'm sure they are at least considering it. It would make more sense to introduce the line after the Nolan movies have all come out I guess. They need another line to continue making Joker figures :lol

I'd also like to see them continue with the armored suits....I don't want to see Bale in a fabric costume.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Really the Grapnel gun in the nolan films is a scaling tool, not something for swinging or catching. He rarely uses it because he has the cape for traversing distances and dealing with heights. The gun is just to get him UP to a high level, to utilize the glide of the cape.

Which is more realistic in a sense, because the idea of swinging with a grapnel gun is pretty far fetched, even if you COULD hold onto the thing when your weight finally hit the apex of the swing, you'd pop both your shoulders out doing it.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Well in Burton's films, the gun actually attached to the belt. I think reality is pretty tossed out when it comes to many of Batman's feats, so it wouldn't be any more unbelievable than the cape allowing him to glide and all.

Maulfan has some very valid points but at the end of the day I have to agree with Magnuz.

I prefer that Batman have limitations and not swing like Spiderman and one thing Daredevil the movie taught me was that him swinging with his clubs didn't look at all realistic (I know, it's a very delicate term when we're discussing Superhero movies).

I only mentioned before that he would've attempted his grapple on the way down during that fall as a desperate attempt to catch onto anything but now that I think about it, it wouldn't make sense and it wouldn't have been his first choice.

Pulling himself up is pretty much the primary reason that grapple gun is being carried for...well...that and shooting it at some criminal to bust up their face..:lol

One more thing and it's not about Batman himself but Dent.

I know that i'm probably in the miniorty with what i'm about to say BUT it just bugs me especially when TDK and BB were so very close to being true to life as much as they possibly could be.

I love Dent in TDK but I hate that he went and got his two tone suit just because it's in the comics! Everytime I see it I can't help but think of Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever...:horror....I'm sorry but it just takes me out of the movie when I see him wearing that stupid silly thing...It screams...."Ohhh look at me, my suit matchaes not only my face but also my mental state...ain't I scary and disturbed!"

Not like his face alone wasn't terrifying enough, lets give him a suit to match.
