I saw it in the Verizon store today, looked nice. as long as you don't use a cover for your phone I'd get both this one and the car dock.

Sounds like the D2, like I thought, is just a phone for keyboard sticklers: https://www.engadget.com/2010/08/13/droid-2-review/

The keyboard was everyone's biggest complaint with the D1, and Motoroloa seems to have fixed that issue nicely. The rest of it seems kinda "eh" to me.

If it were cheaper than the DX, I'd think a lot higher of it than I do right now.

Here's hoping Android 3.0 brings an end to MotoBlur.

Got root?

I haven't found the need to root either. Maybe to get rid of MotoBlur to use stock Android, but for now, LauncherPro works great.

Root definitely isn't for everyone. Probably best served for folks who like to hack things. I think I probably void the warranty for nearly every electronic device I acquire.

I rooted mainly for USB tethering. Verizon wants to charge extra for that service even though I already have an unlimited data plan. :cuckoo: Plus I like being able to modify and/or skin just about every interface on the phone.

I'll have to look into rooting again. I come from a jailbroken iPhone background, so I have no problem voiding warranties. It's just that Android already gives many of the customizing options that were missing on stock iOS. I could see rooting to get tethering, but I don't know if It'd use it enough to warrent the potential hassle.

So can you download the real 2.2 update for the droid x now or is it best to wait? I'm reading conflicting reports all over the place. Some say the leak isn't legit, some say it is, some say it's crashing their phones, etc. etc.

That ROM is just the ROM for the original Droid; the documentation even references a keyboard and d-pad.

Just wait for the real deal. It should be here next month.

I think I will. My phone should be here any minute now. I'm trying to do all the last minute research I can so I can get this thing up and running. I'm pumped.

Break ins are fairly common where I work, but not where I live. I guess I'm unsure of what car burglars are looking for...

Ugh I hate when people mess with your property. Some douche nugget went around the neighborhood and took of all of our tire valve caps. Luckily mine were on tight and he or she could only get one off. I called Honda and they replaced it for free.

I want to put a sign on my door that reads:

If you feel the need to touch my shat please knock on my door first and allow me to meet with you face to face. Thank you!

Seriously I hate that and theives the most. They are scum!

Ok I have a question. Im trying to put the Iron Man ADW theme on my droid X and I downloaded the ADW Launcher...but I dont know how to open it......anyone know how?

This thing is amazing. It's going to be a blast figuring everything out. Quick question. I downloaded the app task killer and it seems like everytime I kill the apps I go back into it and more are running. Is there some kind of secret to having only the apps that you physically open running or will some of these always run no matter how often you kill them? I also had about 20% battery life and it dropped from 20% to completely dead in a matter of minutes while on a call. Is that normal or should I be looking into something?

Sounds like a good way to get your car keyed. :monkey1

The battery thing may have just been the new battery getting worked in. The running apps are totally normal. Andoid puts whatever apps it can in memory so they launch faster. If an app you're actually using needs more memory, then it just quits an app you're not using to free up the memory.

This is all totally invisible to the user unless they download a task manager.

Regarding task managers: They are great as a quick way to force quit an app, but don't turn on the auto management. Your phone's performance will suffer if you do. Unless you have a low spec phone, stay far away from auto management.

Well 2.2 downloaded to my Droid on Monday (8/16). I imagine everyone will have it soon.

I was using a task manager program when I first got my Droid back in April, however I have not been using it the past 2 months and have had no problems.

To break in your battery, I suggest fully draining your battery every day for about 1 to 2 weeks. That should break it in just fine, and you'll notice longer battery life after it's broken in.

Personally I believe task managers are pretty much useless in Android. Android doesn't work like windows so it's best to not think of it that way. You could easily waste more battery life, and more importantly time, just trying to manage apps that start right back up minutes after you kill them. Just let Android do what it was designed to do. Task managers hinder performance more than the contribute to it. The only time I could see any of those 'task manager' programs being useful is if you load a 'buggy' app. Then again if an app is bad enough to need FC'd manually you're probably better off just uninstalling the problem app anyway.
