That's really cool. Lenticular posters are great, I remember the Matrix and Species posters.

I used to have a few movie posters but not so much anymore. This is the one I miss the most.
I don't regret letting it go, but I'd love to own it again.

That realistic looking dust print stuff on the cap shield poster would drive me crazy. I'd keep trying to wipe it off like Danny Tanner. :lol

I love that Apocalypse Now poster.

Nope, it should have been DS, at least most of the versions are. Occassionaly a studio will do a version that only gets released to a particular venue (for example, SDCC) that's single sided to save money (again, DS stuff is still expensive to print high quality). But if it was released to the theater, it was released DS. You have to go back about the mid 90's to see SS stuff at theaters, and even then it was pretty rare, as most stuff was DS by the end of the 80's.

As you suggest tho, there are odd exceptions. The US one-sheet of Blade Runner: The Final Cut is a more recent example of one released initially DS, but there's also an SS. Both went to cinemas.

Ultimately the best way for people to avoid any bootlegs/restrikes is do your research (plenty of decent poster sites & forums, for example), and if you're serious about having originals, don't EVER buy from ebay unless if you're fully 100% satisfied the seller is well known & respected. Again, sites/forums are your best help.

If you can find yourself a dealer or two that have real world shops or that you can visit and build a proper relationship with, that's the ideal. Again, for those who are serious about poster collecting, I know saying that is like teaching grandmother to suck eggs :)

Ok I have a folded poster that I want to frame.

I want to preserve it right and watch the fold lines.

Which approach is the most feasible ?

Dry Mounting?
Linen Backing ?

Omg! I just stumbled upon this awesome thread. Can't wait to go through it.

I have never had any of my posters mounted, but I have seen some very nice linen backed posters. warning, either process may diminish the market value of your poster, but if you never intend to sell I wouldnt worry about that. Linen can help reduce the visibility of fold lines, not sure about dry mounting.

So if you don't mount them like this, what is the best way to minimize the folds and secure the poster in the frame.

Aside from mounting, I guess having the poster pressed firmly between the backing and the glass is the only other way to go. BUT, make sure the backing is acid free and wont have any long term, ill effect on the paper and make sure you display it in a humidity controlled environment. Over time, humidity can cause the paper to adhere to the glass, which can have devastating results.

Seriously though, if you plan on keeping the poster and want to enjoy it for yourself, there is nothing wrong with linen backing. Just make sure a professional does it, definitely not a DIY project.

What is the poster you are considering mounting?

Original Style D Star Wars.

I want it in my collection for good. I just want to do it all right.

Understandable, that's a beautiful poster, one of my favorites. I'd say go ahead and get it linen backed, as that will do the best job of hiding those creases, just find an experienced person to do it.

Congratulations on getting such a nice poster, by the way. Make sure you post a pic of it when the job is done.

I have a lot of posters, and the best I have been able to do is get the record promotion version of that poster, it's exactly the same but has a purple oval promoting the soundtrack release on the art. So, I'm slightly envious.

Thanks so much for the kind words.

I knew having a Style A was most likely out of my reach so acquiring this one was the next best thing to me.

I am in the hunt for a linen backing spot now ! Thanks for the encouragement.

Either you like linen backing or you dislike it......old posters that are damaged would really benefit from backing , though.

Got a lot of backed posters , looks like a bunch of sky scrapers lol (the 2 & 4-sheets are large)

Does anyone know where I can buy this poster in standard 27 x 40 size on paper:

Thanks in advance.

I have been looking for that one too, given that I have never seen it at a movie theater, or being sold by a reputable dealer leaves me to wonder if it physically exists, at least in any official form.

Even on Ebay I have only seen mass rket versions (24 x 36)

Beautiful poster though, if I find one, I will let you know. Let me know if you get lucky as well.
