Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

I UNDERSTAND people willing to pay 700$ for a headsculpt. AND I accept that, that's all up to them. but saying it's actually WORTH it is just rediculous IMO. My opinion lol.

It's not 700$, is it?

Nope. Not even close.

Then we have a problem. Because from what I've been told (and others I've discussed this with through pm's who know as well) it's slightly less than that price. Maybe the prices vary from head sculpt to head sculpt. Maybe people are lying. Who knows. I will say this though, If these head sculpts were like $100 this wouldn't even be an issue. A lot of people are chiming in without knowing the price that's floating around. If people knew that, then maybe it would make more sense.

Look, I wanna make a couple things clear:

1. I personally have never said imaresqd1 is selfish. Not sure where that came from but I disagree with that idea completely. Just because you're a member of this type of community doesn't mean you're automatically obligated to share/sell your work (whatever it may be). And if people think that, oh well. That's on them. But that's BS.

2. The whole "you just can't afford it" angle is so idiotic and overused on boards like this it's not even funny. Seriously.. "rich" people apparently have no opinion and have 0 complaints about anything now!? Well if you let certain collectors tell it. :duh

3. Anyone who can't read and thought I was comparing gum or soda to art is an *****. Flat out. The comparison was obvious. If you have similar items, and the price is relatively the same except for one which happens to have like a 500% mark up, that's overpriced. No two ways around it. Just because certain people don't mind paying that doesn't mean it's not overpriced. That doesn't change magically.

4. There's a big difference between something that's expensive, and something that's overpriced. You could buy a brand new HT Tumbler AND the HT Bat Pod for the amount of money some people have paid for just one of these head sculpts. If you can honestly say that's not overpriced for a little plastic head then you've got bigger problems.

5. I'll never understand why people can't be real. I just don't get that. If I bought one of these heads I'd be the first to admit yeah, I bought it but it IS overpriced. Why is that so hard!? Why do people feel the need to defend their possessions!? I see it time and time again on here and I'll never understand it. There's stuff that I personally like (movies, music, collectibles, etc.) that I know for a fact is crap. Who cares? I like it. And that's all that matters to me. I don't feel the need to make OTHER people like it too. Or see it how I see it.

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

damn Blakus, that is the best Heath likeness I have ever seen, it makes the Joker figure i sold you look like crap :horror Heres to hoping Cinemaquette ever comes close to this in 1/3 scale :duff

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

I just want to chime in and say that devil666 is the voice of reason. But i can see both sides, so to sum it up and see more pictures from blakus,

We have a wonderful piece of art that wasn't meant to be sold. Few individuals wanted it so much they would've payed no matter how much for it. The maker of the wonderful piece agreed and decide it to make one for them, in exchange making it overpriced. ~fin~

well if you wanna start insulting people and calling them idiots....

the point you made about gum and soda and similar items is absolute garbage. maybe you need to read the responses again. the point was you can't compare one artist's head with another's and say one has a massive markup like you can with gum or soda. it doesn't work like that with art. either you get that or you don't understand what art is. it's like saying picassos that go for millions are overpriced, coz the guy that lives next door to you does similar kinds of paintings and only charges a couple hundred bucks. technically, your comparison doesn't apply. unless you weren't making that comparison at all, in which case i missed the point of that post entirely coz that's what it came across as.

you never said adam was selfish. but others have said that by not releasing his heads for everyone at a low price he is frustrating the community. as if he has some obligation to do so.

my problem is not with the price of this head. it's not about people being "real" either. it's about people who go from thread to thread diminishing the work of others, their purchases or their hard work. you seem adamant that everyone admit that this head is overpriced. how is that any different from people you say claim to want everyone to like what they buy? put yourself in their position. you come into a thread where people clearly like this head, they like blakus' custom. and you and others have insisted that this head is ridiculously overpriced. is there any need to continue? you've said what you need to but you don't let it alone. it seems the majority of threads here are now more about posting negativity and what you don't like about something than what you do. it's fine, you have every right to. but wouldn't it be better to go into a thread every now and then and not have someone biching and belittling what others do, and the way they do business, and the things they buy? forget "real". how about a little courtesy and respect? we're dealing with opinions here. those in support of this not being overpriced have made their statements. those that think this head is overpriced have tried to hammer the point home. as if their opinion is fact.

the worst thing for me is, this isn't a manufactured product. i can understand moaning and complaints about something a big company is about to release. but to a customiser? someone in your own 1/6 community? it seems to me you're only trying to make them feel regret and guilt about their purchase. and that sucks.

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

I dont know how anybody could put it any better, truely nail on the head! Now lets hope this thread can go back to being positive and not all this negative BS

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

I'm not trying to be a party crasher here. There is one thing I'm just curious about... where does the licensing come in under all this for big sums of money from each person that he's making. Is this a licensed product? where does Warner Bros get their cut out of this for such movie character likeliness?... or whoever... DC Comics and such. There's this thing called copyright and trademark. The same thing that Hot Toys has to go through for legal matters.

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

Overview of the debate:

Sculpt supporters: Others are trying to say the price is too high in order to justify not having it/being able to afford it. Could be construed as sour grapes.

"Overpriced" crowd: Others are trying to say the price is worth the art in order to justify spending so much on a headsculpt. Could be construed as justification after purchase or buyers' remorse.

Interesting argument.

eighth....what can I say. Well put bud, can always count on you for rational debate. (before anyone jumps on me as if I am saying others' debate is irrational; I AM NOT. Just complimenting my friendo).

Re: My Custom 1/6th Heath Joker nearing completion, pic heavy

If someone is going around saying these are selling for $700, they're flat out misinformed. If someone says they paid that much for the sculpt, either they're lying and trying to start trouble or they're an ***** with too much money.

The price is nowhere near that, it's closer to $100 than it is to $700. I don't know where the hell that figure even came from.
