Altough Cipriano is a great sculptor, I find his work sometimes to be too cartoony. And in this instance, it doesnt work very well with Sideshow's Marvel line.Sideshow try to take habitually a more realistic/real-life approach to their Marvel Characters Sculpts...Like Namor, his Abomination looks a lot like a caricature of the character too.

I see what you mean about the peg, Quad.

Still--I think that this piece was not made to have a contemporary feel, but more of a classic and Iconic one. In this context, the statue is a success IMO.

The face could have been a little smoother for my liking, but I will Judge for myself when I get him.

Shai, have you seen the Bowen Abomination at your LCS yet? That thing is amazing in both size and paint. I always stop to stare at it for a bit whenever I see it and im not even a big abomination fan.

yes it is an amazing piece.Still waiting the right moment, but I'll definitely get him.

This piece does have a touch of realism, as you say--and I agree--that SS Marvel line has, but it is and should be handled differently form artist to artist.

On a similar note, the comiquette line, which this statue is part of is not as "real" as the PF, due partly because of the use of both Poly/Fabric. This could be why it is a turn off to a lot of collectors.

Nash - thanks for sharing the pics. Wow, his face looks like that of an old lady wearing too much make up

Yeah, and thats the only real problem with it IMO. Thanks for the pics Nash. Thing is gonna have a new neigbor.

my lcs had both hulk and abom on display a couple weeks ago, man it was all i could do to get out of there without pulling out the cc and racking up the airmiles.

it was the same store that had the life size hulk on display, i thought i'd died and gone to marvel heaven:wacky

Saw this at NYCC today. ew, i still pass on it. It was a "marvel sample" but the paint job looked very sloppy and not crisp at all, especially on the face. It is pretty big for a comiquette, however the face sculpt and pose still make this a huge pass for me. I must say though, the EX is the only way to go for this one...I dont see how you could stand it without him holding the trident.

OMG.....is that Hammerhead in his speedo whale hunting!?...:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

Yikes, you're right Nash..... That face looks spooky. Not proportionate, or something! That chin looks huge and the texture is pretty wrinkly and rough! Easy pass....

There's been more hype around my baby's dirty diaper than this statue.

I for one like it--though I do agree about the face "comments." I think it's a good attempt to bring us a non-modern age piece, (both in costume and sculpt) while so many statues on the market represent the modern.

All they need to do is rework the face. There will be another EX, since literally no one will be buying the regular...even the EX is getting criticized pretty badly over just the face.

Answer to the regular leftovers: Give them a trident, Fix the face, and add a black vest = EX 2.

no doubt we will be seeing another variant down the road for this one. just don't know if it'll sell that well either:confused:
sure i agree that namor maybe a powerhouse in the marvel world, but it just seems that he is a marketing flop compared to the likes of spidey, hulk, ironman, thor, avengers etc.
i mean a human that can stay under water and has the power of the trident, boring imo.
maybe if hollywood gets ahold of him someday and reinvents him, he might get a larger fan base

I realize that this is a board about quick one liners and concise statements to make a point, but talk about selling a character short.
