Lakers looking good. Bigs playing big again (key to the series). Despite CP's half-ending 3, Kobe is getting in his head with shadow D, basically mugging the ____ out of him and he hasn't even started to get it in gear. :lol

As long as the Lakers control the boards, it's gonna be a long night for NO -- unless the Lakers get lazy with a lead which they're prone to do.

PS. Happy for Spurs fans they got their groove back with Manu... you always want to see teams with their best 5 on the floor.

Nothing like beating a team with its health 5 and that one reason I wish that Boston didn't trade Perk.

Bynum was playing like Shaq of the early 2000s on both sides of the court. Hornets managed to shut down Kobe and Gasol somehow, but couldn't make a free throw to save their lives, couldn't stop Bynum, and had to go much of the time without Okafor because of foul trouble.

Bummer, because the Hornets had a real shot. CP3 needs some help :lol

Most of the game was pretty intense, as several Hornet playoff series have been in recent years. They may not have the best talent (or the most size) all the way around, but they always play hard, and make good teams work to win. I hope this continues through the series.

Ariza did a geat job on making Kobe work yesterday, but I really don't think he was trying to get off last night. Taking 10 shots in a playoff game is not exactly looking to get his points, but other than focusing on taking CP3 out of the game, and that plan look to work for the Lakers last night. Also didn't hurt that most everyone else was working last night and didn't need Kobe to KOBE.

Hmmmm...not so sure about that, have a source?

Sure do:

Per ESPN:

While most of the excitement in March is usually reserved for college basketball players, Carmelo Anthony provided a little of his own, and in the process showed exactly why the New York Knicks gave up so much to acquire him.

Anthony
After being held under 30 points in each of his first seven games with the Knicks, Anthony (31 points) eclipsed the 30-point mark for the second straight game.

He reached that plateau on his go-ahead field goal with less than one second remaining which broke a tie game and lifted the Knicks past the Memphis Grizzlies.

Over the past three seasons Anthony has proven to be one of the most clutch performers in the NBA. He has made eight field goals in the final 10 seconds of games in which his team was tied or trailing by fewer than three points.

Those eight field goals are tied for the second most in the NBA over the last three seasons. Anthony has been efficient as well, converting on 50 percent of those opportunities.

He is now 4-for-6 in such situations this season

We need to get game 3 in the NOLA' to right this ship. I know that we'll get one of the games in the NOLA', but something about winning game 3 to right this ship and take all of the Hornets swagger. What better way to do it than KOBE going into BEAST mode and just strong arming and taking this win. Hopefully we'll have a siting of the Mr. Gasofty.

Haven't really been watching the Nuggets series. I knew going in it was a very unfavorable matchup. I won't be too surprised if its a relatively short series, 4-1 or 4-2.

They can answer how they'd like, but STATISTICS show that Melo has been the best clutch player in the NBA for the last 5 years.

He gets a lot of hate, that I never really paid attention to, until I was forced to(now that he's a Knick).
:slap:lol

I still think he's a sissy, but the man shows results when the game is on the line.

Um that article says h'es tied for second since the last 3 years. Not the "best clutch player in the NBA for the last 5 years"

In additon, when I looked up your article, if you scroll down to the comments section you can see another reader did her research and found, lo and behold, KOBE is number one in clutch shots. Kobe has 10 clutch shots compared to 'melo's 8.

JuliaNYC24 (3/10/2011 at 5:20 AM) Report Violation The truth about Lebron in crunch time:

Given Quality (3/9/2011 at 12:49 PM) Report Violation
So here you have it, Lebron and Kobe's "Last 10sec" Clutch stats for 08-09 (Lebron's first MVP) til present.
Lebron James
08-09: 1-4 (25%)
09-10: 1-8 (12.5%)
10-11: 1-8 (12.5%)
Total (through last 3 seasons): 3-20 (15%)
Kobe Bryant
08-09: 2-6 (33.3%)
09-10: 7-11 (63.6%)
10-11: 1-3 (33.3%)
Total (through last 3 seasons): 10-20 (50%)

Funny enough, they have the same exact amount of attempts. Not the same amount of makes though.

By the way, I want to point out to all the LeBron nut-huggers, LeBron's a whopping 15%...oh but he's a finisher all right :rolleyes2

LMK did up stats for a total of five, then.

Edit: found that adding two more years(previously to the last 3, lol) and Melo is right behind Kobe with 13 shots made.

48%

Not sure what Kobe's is at, given an extra two years.

I'll still continue to stand by my opinion that Melo is the best clutch player in the NBA.

And if not the best, certainly top 3.

While I agree that Kobe didn't need to score (because his teammates were doing it) and that was part of why he didn't take many shots, I think this was also due to the defense of the Hornets--Ariza in particular--taking him out of his offensive comfort zone. Otherwise, you would expect to have seen more assists by him if he was in selfless distributer mode. Same thing for Gasol getting so harassed that he was a non-factor. Unfortunately, the Hornets D wasn't capable of stopping those guys as well as Bynum, Odom, and Artest, so they lost the game.

As for taking CP3 out of the game, that may have been Kobe's plan, but CP3 still almost got a double double (20 points and 9 assists), so I'm not sure how effective he was at that. And Kobe stopped covering CP3 after awhile, probably because he was getting beat the hell up on the picks of the pick and roll plays. Or possibly because CP3 kept blowing right by him at will and driving to the basket, getting good shot opportunities and creating shooting opportunities for his teammates.

I'm still a bit bummed that CP3 doesn't have much real help, though. NO management seems incapable of giving him a legitimate star or two to provide him a real shot at a title. And that's why he's gonna be leaving soon. . .
