Texas is a big state and if my memory is correct at the time the Mavs sucked and Houston just lost Olajuwan.

I honestly don't know why the NBA favors SA, but its obvious they do with the way the refs treat them and so on. The only person to ever do something against the Spurs was Crawford and he's a loose cannon.

Other drafts off the top of my head that were fixed.

NY getting Ewing
Cleveland getting LeBron (even though they had the worst record, they still assured CLE got the local boy)
most recently CHI getting local boy Rose.

And I'm a Cleveland fan so I'm not biased here. I acknowledge they also got the benefit of the fix.

I've never felt the need to explain to anyone why I like Chicago. If someone asks I'll explain as I did. You asked and I explained yet you still called me a bandwagon fan. Either way I love my Bulls and have for 23 years. That won't change until I kick it no matter what anyone thinks.
I used to be a bandwagon Bulls fan when I first started watching basketball.

Why in hell would Stern have fixed it so the Spurs got Duncan? It makes absolutely no sense. If that lottery were fixed, Duncan would be a Boston Celtic.

Exactly, I never understood the whole "fix" thing. Like you said why they give, of all places, SA the #1 pick?

Then when SA started winning, everyone said the NBA was fixed. The rating for SA's finals were the lowest so why would the NBA throw good money after bad? It never made sense to me.

Plus when Duncan was a FA for 2 different seasons, he couldve been "guided" to leave SA and pick another team but he never did. The whole "fix" argument never holds water when you look at those pesky facts...

Yeah, those Nets-Spurs and Spurs-Pistons finals were Stern's wet dreams.:lol Just look at all the NBA ads as well. Rarely are Spurs players featured in those either.

But why not broadcast the lottery and remove all doubt, instead of dressing up all of those goofballs in suits just to watch an envelope being opened?

Do they think thats more entertaining than a live lottery drawing? And how is it that Chicago miraclously jumps like 10 teams in the lottery when a local boy is the projected #1? Again, I'm a Cavs fan and acknowledge the fix helped them too, so I'm not targeting teams here. Its a league criticism. The NFL and MLB don't do lottery, why the NBA? Why did they go to the lottery just in time for Ewing to go to NY? This is fishy, IMO. I'll go back sometime and note the other drafts that stand out to me.

Of course I did. If it makes you feel better, I didn't become a Wizards fan when Jordan unretired.:lol

Oh alright. You're alive again. :lol

I did root for Jordan on the wizards but never against Chicago. I do actually have a Jordan authentic Wizards jersey to go with my authentic Bulls. When I was a kid I had a black jersey (which is probably my fave) and a red 45 after he quit baseball.

I don't disagree that some of it seems fishy, but there is just no way Stern would give the Spurs two franchise players in 10 years. That makes absolutely no sense.

I always liked their black Bulls jerseys with the red pinstripes.

except that the first franchise player didn't get them to the promised land and then got hurt allowing them to fall out of the playoff race. this is ages ago, so I sorta forgot some stuff. Similar to the Heat losing Wade and then the NBA giving the Heat the 2nd pick.

I would say the 93 draft was also rigged as they tried to create a powerhouse in Orlando.

Go Heat!!! lol

:lecture :lecture :lecture

When I was a kid, I was more of a "player" fan. Dr. J. was my favorite player so I was a Philly fan, as a result. We didn't have a local team so I had the entire league to choose from.

When Jordan came onto the scene, I become a Jordan fan and hence, a Chicago Bulls fan. Even during the early years, you knew he was special. Once the Heat arrived, I was a Heat fan but still cheered for Jordan. Heck, I remember seeing the Bulls play the Heat several times at the old Arena and the entire crowd would cheer everytime Jordan scored. We backed our team but appreciated those special moments in history.

I agree about having the need for full transparency - it does seem odd they dont broadcast that. But it still wouldnt make sense to allow certain teams to land key players over others.

I mean, if you want to talk conspiracy, how does the Lakers land Shaq, Fisher and Kobe all in one offseason?? Hows that for a conspiracy??

They were never in the playoff race. Robinson got hurt pretty early on in the season and then tried to come back and broke his foot (pretty hard to make up) NBA conspiracy theorists like to claim that the Spurs pulled DRob so they could land Duncan, pretty hard to fabricate a BROKEN FOOT, lol..

But everyone knows they would have been a legit playoff team with Robinson back the following year. Don't you think Stern would have rather gift wrapped Duncan to Boston who had no one after Bird retired and Reggie Lewis died.

I'm not saying the Spurs sunk themselves on purpose at all. And I'm not saying that they lied about injuries or any of that.

Just saying that the team was close and missing the playoffs one time (they certainly would have been in the playoffs if 50 was healthy) helped the franchise for the next 15 years.

The same situation cropped again for the Heat who after trading away Shaq and losing Wade to injury was awarded a top pick. Of course no one knew how crappy that pick would turn out. :lol

I mean, yeah you totally make a good point. I don't have an answer for it. Who knows. Obviously Stern's a NY boy and his rival would be Boston, so maybe he told them to suck it. Maybe he didn't appreciate Pitino choosing Boston over NY... Maybe he thought them having 2 picks (including #3) in the top 10 was enough?
