Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I don't really mind about the plastic being the color, I don't know, I think that's a little of nitpicking, I mean, If it looks horrible then yeah is a problem, but, if it looks good, I dont know, I will be happy if they get the face right and the paint right,
if the plastic ends up being made in color, I mean, Isn't that less of a chance for them to mess up the figure? if they do a Grey figure and have to paint everything, that sounds to me like a bigger chance to get a disappointing figure, Neca doesn't have the quality of paint of HT, I think the plastic being the color the skin is could be a good thing, since they will only have to focus on painting the details, instead of painting an entire figure,

No, it's waayy overboard.. But, some people just can't resist complaining.

The figure looks amazing, both paint and sculpt.
Don't forget it's only $80 also.

I agree.

And the thing is, people are complaining about the plastic being shiny...and the Predator was shiny as fook in the movie. :slap

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

True, but you know there's certain things that don't translate well into a smaller scale/toy. This being one of them.

Wet and Slimy is completely different than shiny plastic.

No one would ever look at the 1:1 scale Predator from the first movie (or any Predator movie) and say "It's shiny and looks cheap like some plastic toy!". Just have to wait and see what it looks like in-hand. That's the thing. You just don't know with NECA.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Like how the 7" Berserker looks like it has acne on it's chest? Neca has good sculpts, but the actual paint apps suck in hand! They're a cusomizers dream, though.

Ehhh, my boy has the 7" Falconer, and I will say it's paint apps aren't too bad, but far from the proto pics.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

^ Can't stand the Unmasked Mr. Black.. something about that grey is just..bleh. And, of course the painted scales.

I agree with Falconer, mine looks great.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

The unmasked Berserker? Yeah I hate that paintscheme. Execution wasn't much better than the masked one either so all things considered I prefer the masked one.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I had to repaint all of the 7inch Predators Preds, I got them specifically just to repaint, actually. It was my winter project, to keep me sane thru another chicago winter. Not sure if it worked... cause now I keep buying more predator stuff. :gah:

Yeah, it seems like more people prefer Unmasked over Masked. I definitely prefer the Masked version's paint better than the Unmasked..

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

So when you look at the factory pics of this 14 P1, do you think it looks cheap?
i much prefer the 2 up shown a while back. these recent pics dont bode well for me.

HT molds all their human heads in "skin" color. Just look inside one of them where the neck socket connects and you'll see the raw color. No gray. The prototype is gray because of the sculpting material. But the finished products are all molded in whatever "skin" color is closest in tone to the subject. They just have great paint aps so it's never an issue of the finished product looking cheap or too plastic/toy-like.
cool. i stand corrected then. i think the quality of plastic used helps as well.

pred is dressed like tarzan. when the fig is molded in skin color, that means practically the whole fig is molded in skin color. and if to your eyes molded color equals cheap and plasticky, then the entire 18 inches of it would look cheap and plasticky. that's not nit picking, that's a major eyesore of a problem. nit picking would be to fuss about, i dont, the netting, for example.

just so you know, i'm always for 100% for screen accuracy, but some things are still tolerable. plastic and cheap look in the best sculpt of a badass screen monster, however, is not tolerable.

ex-freaking-actly.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

is www.cmdstore.com a good place to buy from? well anyway, they have the preds,

and
I think the biggest problem we all have is that new company they have for the painting, I mean, I usually like Neca, I love my 18 inch Alien, and i liked the 7 inch wolf predator, but, i really did not like the 7 inch predators, they looked not good for me, but, since this is going to be a new company, we have no idea what the figures are going to be like...

Then you can miss out. :dunno Don't quite get why people are expecting an HT figure out of this release when we all know it's NECA and it's still better than anything else they've ever done. And once again, it's $80. We get that you'd spend an extra $20 or $30 for the whole thing to be painted, but it's not $100. It's $80. And for your money, you're getting something we never even thought this company would be capable of.

I agree with the wet/slimy and cheap/shiny argument, though your amount of complaining for something like this on a figure from a normally low-end manufacturer (when the problem is barely even that big a deal) just boggles me. :cuckoo:

my "amount of complaining"? you meant the 3 posts i did in this thead? what boggles me every single time is that there are always people who cant take it when others see things differently than they do. what's worse than a 'whiner' is the whiner who whine about the whiner.

it might not be a big deal to you, but it does to me, especially since i cant cancel my pre-order. sure sure, it's only $80. dont need to keep repeating it. we all know how much it cost. i also know i own bunch of $15 (mcfarlane)figs that are painted with great artistry, so what's your point?

It looks great, not cheap. I'm happy.
well, good for you. i'm not. accept it.

cheers.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

ok that's not entirely true... i dont want to cancel it even if i could.

here's the thing...i think this is the best predator sculpt ever made. THE BEST yet. everything from top to bottom looks perfect to my eyes. and i dont throw around word like that lightly. to have a sculpt that cool of the pred, for that size... it's beyond what i thought neca's capable of. it's unprecedented for neca in terms of ambition. and so.. i just dont get why they would reach for the sky, came so close to perfection, but then consciously decided to skim out on the last part of the process and bring the whole thing down a few notches. i mean, if you want to go for glory there has to be a sacrifice made. so tell your bookkeeper to go suck it! make less money(although losing money for prestige is still a small price to pay), carve your mark, and go for broke.

that's what i think anyway.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Well, one could argue that translucent skin is technically inaccurate on the Predator. The original was made of foam latex, before the days of silicone, and had no translucency whatsoever to its skin. That said, I think that complaint is a little ridiculous. In the FX world, replicating skin translucency is considered a desirable thing, and a lot of the paint work on the skin was trying to mimic that effect.
