Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

@cr
Dude, first of all. It's NECA.
Second, it doesn't "bring the whole thing down a few notches".

Lets move on....

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

cant we all just get along. :1-1:

lets just wait and see the final product before we come to conclusions, maybe neca will surprise us all.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I'm getting three quarter scale figures sculpted by the prodigious Tankman for only $200. I'd be happy if they were unpainted and came in a plain brown cardboard box, that's how excited I am about these figures. But I also have the ability and love to paint, not all people do.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

ok that's not entirely true... i dont want to cancel it even if i could.

here's the thing...i think this is the best predator sculpt ever made. THE BEST yet. everything from top to bottom looks perfect to my eyes. and i dont throw around word like that lightly. to have a sculpt that cool of the pred, for that size... it's beyond what i thought neca's capable of. it's unprecedented for neca in terms of ambition. and so.. i just dont get why they would reach for the sky, came so close to perfection, but then consciously decided to skim out on the last part of the process and bring the whole thing down a few notches. i mean, if you want to go for glory there has to be a sacrifice made. so tell your bookkeeper to go suck it! make less money(although losing money for prestige is still a small price to pay), carve your mark, and go for broke.

that's what i think anyway.

So you think it looks cheap? You seem to dodge around that question..

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Why hasn't Amazon got these up for Preorder yet...

I think i'm going to wait for them, and get free shipping.

Yeah, I am not jumping the gun on pre-ordering this one. I think im gonna hold out for better deals because I am certain there will be plenty once they are released.

You need to look at the artists and the company as two separate entities. Tankman is the one with the ambition to make the best predator sculpt ever, Neca just wants to make cost efficient toys sold at Toys R Us. While the artists make the prototype as accurate as possible, Neca handles the mass production with cost effective methods. Simply put, they have different agendas, and this is the end result we get.

Don't you think that could be said for any of these companies? In my experience, I could say the same for what I've gotten from Sideshow. Hot Toys is as close to the prototype quality as any company I've bought from. Not to toot their horn, but it's what I've found to be true.

True. Before Howard found Hot Toys, he started out as a 1:6 customizer, much like a lot of customizers on this forum. He's also an entrepreneur and started Hot Toys to make his dream come true, and hired a bunch of talented artists to make his own figures. That's why he cares about the quality of his products, it makes a huge difference when the head of the company is an artist and on the same page with the same agenda to make the best figure possible, that can't be said for most companies out there..

Tankman's sculpt is amazing, but if Neca only wants to do an $80 figure with that sculpt, then that's all we'll get in terms of quality of the end piece. Personally I'm satisfied, I think the price justifies the product. If you're truly nuts, you can recast it in resin, customize it with flexible dreads, repaint it, make a base, put leds in it, etc.. There's a lot of things you can do with this great sculpt if you feel Neca isn't pushing it to the limit.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Personally I'm happy the skin is not being painted. Have you ever looked at smaller action figures, such as star wars or GIJOE? Often times the painted heads look terrible in comparison to the ones molded in plastic color, because paint (to varying degrees) will always fill in cracks and crevices, which will reduce the overall sculpted detail seen by the naked eye.
Paint, no matter how thin, is still an additional layer that will sit on top of the sculpt, reducing its sharpness and clarity.
Admittedly, paint would probably not ruin the sculpted detail on a figure of this (larger) size, but I am still glad it's not going to be applied. NECA has never been known for spectacular paint, so if we can avoid the possibility of a big ugly "skin colored" paint app, I will be a happy camper.
To me, the molded plastic skin color looks freaking spectacular, and I consider myself very ____ about these things.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

If the final product looks like that, I'll be more than happy. Skin painted, or not...

And the pic above blows away any Hot Toys Predator i've seen, movie accuracy wise. The face on the Hot Toys Predator 1 didn't look anything like it did in the movie.
