Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

If NECA's P1 looks anything like the picture above, I'll be very happy.
I would just have to figure out how to put quills on it.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I just don't remember anyone saying any of this when the pics of the HT P1 first turned up. When in-hand pics appeared people, myself included, said it was disappointingly small and the mask stuck out too far, but I have no recollection of anyone going as far to say it looks 'nothing like the movie'

Even in light of the more accurate Neca figure I think its a pretty big exaggeration to say that the HT one looks like it is based on 'some other' Predator

Man, I can't wait to see what this will look like. If it is anything like the picture, then we might have a winner here!

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Personally I'm happy the skin is not being painted. Have you ever looked at smaller action figures, such as star wars or GIJOE? Often times the painted heads look terrible in comparison to the ones molded in plastic color, because paint (to varying degrees) will always fill in cracks and crevices, which will reduce the overall sculpted detail seen by the naked eye.
Paint, no matter how thin, is still an additional layer that will sit on top of the sculpt, reducing its sharpness and clarity.
Admittedly, paint would probably not ruin the sculpted detail on a figure of this (larger) size, but I am still glad it's not going to be applied. NECA has never been known for spectacular paint, so if we can avoid the possibility of a big ugly "skin colored" paint app, I will be a happy camper.
To me, the molded plastic skin color looks freaking spectacular, and I consider myself very ____ about these things.
Just my 2 cents.

this is exactly what I was trying to say earlier, I think painting the sculpture entirely instead of the plastic in color could become a mess, I don't think figures molded in the color look that bad or cheap, I really don't think so,
I say that the plastic being in color could be a good thing, I'm glad someone else sees this

Check out how mike m put them on his custom HT P1. He used a plastic plant with barb like things on it, and painted them black, cut them to size and then glued them on. Looks really nice, and I'm sure the same thing could be applied to this guy.

Yes, I saw that there. Very creative.
Thanks by the way.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Yep, same reason why the HT Berserker looks the way he does; the actual prop head would never be able to fit under his bio.
yeah, just like how the HT alien figure heads are inaccurate to make the helmets fit on them.

oh, wait.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Well yeah good point. Chances are any given HT predator face is gonna be innaccurate anyway, regardless of biomask, what with how indifferent or unobservant they are about the aliens - but - I still don't see how anyone can say that the HT P1 bears no resemblance. Those people speak for obsessive fans only, not the wider field of observers.

Oh, I wasn't standing up for HT at all. You have to admit though, even in the movie, it would've been physically impossible to fit a helmet over Berserker's head. Not sure if it was the CG or the animatronics, but he seemed unable to close that mouth of his even a little bit.

Yeah, the Aliens are pretty bad. Give me a true 1/6-scale figure with the new Medicom sculpt, HT's small texture details and paint apps, and a plastic body... and I'll spend $200 on it right now.

i would think that a $200 figure could do better than bear a resemblance when this $80 one is pretty much dead-on.

i was just pointing out that mentioning the fact that the prop head couldn't fit in the bio is kinda silly considering HT could've just made 2 separate sculpted heads. the inaccuracy problem is entirely HT, not the original movie designs.

agreed, and i'd pay way more.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I wish they said something, or showed us another pic, or something,
this is really killing me,

Actually what's silly is suggesting unrealistic options like adding extra heads for masked/unmasked displays. Is NECA doing that? Oh yeah, no. They're charging full price for all THREE different displays.

It's impossible for an accurate Bio to fit over a full Predator face. The movies couldn't do it. NECA's figures can't do it. Not hard to understand.

That's why a certain other company can't quite get the head rights.

I'm glad NECA is doing this on this bad boy. Accuracy all the way.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I would pay extra for HT Predators if they did alternate heads. Sure the removable bio has a nice fun factor to it, but in the end, we're not really playing with these figures, so just opting for a method that makes for all looks being optimal is the right path in my book. Make a really nice looking bio and bio-less head and don't worry about working them into 1.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

With the P2 I think it could be pulled off because most of the time it held it's mandibles very close to it's face to the point where they didn't really stick out much; unlike the P1 who was always doing those little twitchy tricks with it's mandibles.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I really hope if this one turns out even just very good not excellent that NECA makes more. I can always customize the paint to help with accuracy.
