NECA: Alien Movie Franchise Figures

I picked up the two pack set today at ToysRus. These have horrible paint apps guys. Almost every single one had wonky looking eyes and no eyebrow paint. They had eight and they all looked terrible.

My 7" Chap came with a stuck right hip rotation.

The hip joint itself is fine but the leg won't swivel around the joint no matter how much heat is applied. I even stuck a sharp blade in the cavity to try and free it up but nothing.

So frustrating having one stuck joint isn't it lol.

Oh NECA what are we supposed to do with you.

I get the same here whenever there is a large batch delivered to the comic book shop here that gets them in. Either the face painted on is all over the place,the eyes are too cross eyed or there is paint slash on the uniform in some area or another. The sculpts are great but whoever NECA is getting to paint these is really letting the side down.

Look, I am still loving this line but its going to be the paint apps that are going to make me stop more than anything. Surely NECA are making enough money off of these that they can look into getting a better paint factory ?

I thought the grey was the color of the actual suit and brown is what it looked on screen due to lighting? Could be wrong, don't have either but do plan to get the grey. I like how much more detail comes through

Yup, the Hicks and Hudson two pack is garbage.

The joints on both of them are wobbly and loose, paint chipping on the boots, clear plastic coming off on the heels, they feel really low quality and junky. It's like bootlegs or something that they rushed out to meet demand.

damn. i bought a lot of Neca alien related humans (a lot for me, as i normally avoid collecting humans) specifically to end the line with that 2-pack.

The Narcissus is the only cinemachine I bought from wave 2 and I really like it.

The joints on both of them are wobbly and loose, paint chipping on the boots, clear plastic coming off on the heels, they feel really low quality and junky. It's like bootlegs or something that they rushed out to meet demand.

You should feel the joints on my 7" Chap, I think the arms are just about ready to fall off on my next pose so i'm not touching it.

Very disappointing indeed. I thought the whole point was to bring them up to the quality of Vasquez - for me it was anyway.

I'll find out for myself next week or the week after.

The Hicks Hudson 2 pack is a mixed bag.

I do think they are superior to the series 1 releases overall. The plastic and paint on series 1 always felt cheap to me and I hated how you couldn't pose their arms without scratching paint off the elbows and hands. The flesh plastic they used for this two pack looks much better. While the eyes on some of these sets are dodgy, I think overall the faces look much better. I ended up swapping the torso armor from my series 1 versions onto the two pack, just because I liked the paint on them a little bit more. I'd say that the best quality marines are still Frost and Vasquez. The new 2 pack is just a step or two below them, followed by Windrix and Series 1. I'll admit that the 2 pack's quality is not as good as it should be, but it's not the worst quality I've ever seen from neca. (That honor goes to the retro style snake plissken figure which I don't even want to talk about)

It must just be that batch, mine have eyebrows on all. All but one has great looking eyes and that off one, isn't as bad as I've seen. When I picked up Frost, only one out of the four I saw was acceptable. There is some small amount of chipping on the boots but they're not a deal breaker for me. I don't know about the joints since I have yet to open mine, but that right wrist on hicks getting pulled out of socket has me a bit worried. I wish manufacturers would stop posing the figures in the package with twisty ties, that always causes crappy joints and warped plastic from my experience.

I reviewed the series here in this thread, The short answer is that the Narcissus is the best of the second series.
My original but shortened review:

I got my set today.
All of these come with display stands but I don't trust them, (they're like the display stand for the Derelict from Series 1) so I didn't open and use them for this quick review.

The Predator Scout ship (Predator 1) and the Narcissus are quite large and really nice. I may be a little biased towards Alien, but the Narcissus is the best of series 2. There's more detail and better paint than the Scout ship, and it's larger than the Predator Lost Tribe ship, (Predator 2) I'm also not a fan of the design of the Lost Tribe ship although the Tribe ship is very detailed and painted well. The Tribe ship is smaller and more inline with series 1, about the size of the Cheyenne. The top half of the Narcissus and Scout ships are diecast metal, the bottom of each are a soft but dense plastic. The Tribe ship is the opposite, the bottom rear half is diecast and the top and front of the Tribe ship is soft dense plastic.
I like the design of the APC more but I don't feel the quality is there for the money, and the Tribe ship has a great paint job and lots of detail. The Cheyenne is just a disappointment in quality despite being my favorite design from any of the Alien and Predator movies. I really hope they go back and make a better improved version of the Cheyenne in a future series.

I should add that Eaglemoss has the license for the Alien and Predator movies. Right now they're just making small figurines and one large Xeno statue, but they did say they're also making ships so it's possible they'll make a Narcissus in the future. If they do, expect it to be smaller than the NECA version but probably done better.

So far I've got 3 sets of the H & H packs and only have one figure of the 6 with slightly wonky eyes, everything else is an upgrade over their previous releases. People are so down on this set but I think they are great. The flesh tone works really well on Hudson more so than on hicks. I will say though that if you are able to look through some sets in store, like with many neca figures to pick out the best available it would be ideal.
