"It may be a junkyard construction of other people's movies—and it's no coincidence that Blomkamp likes to set his films amidst actual junk—but it goes off on its own path, eventually," he writes."

Wait, Chappie goes...off the rails? Just what we need for the ALIEN franchise. :panic:

Your statement is too general. *Some* good actors bring their A-game no matter what, others thrive with good material.
Exactly.
For example, Gary Oldman's fantastic in everything he does, even if the movie and the rest of the cast are "meh" (or worse).

If he apologized for Elysium then apparently he'll commit seppuku for Chappie.
:lol:lol:lol:lol

If Oldman has ever phoned in a role, then I haven't noticed. He can be in some of the most terrible movies you can think of (Lost in Space, Fifth Element) and still turns in excellent performances. I re-watched Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy a few weeks ago. That was possibly the most understated role of his career, and he just nailed it. Then, he has over the top, bat**** crazy roles like Sid Vicious and the Professional, and he nails those, too!

Speaking of Gary Oldman.. I finally bought myself a copy of 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' the other day (been meaning to for years), **** me that's a great film.

I'd say the only weak link is Keanu, but overall - after having not seen it in literally decades, it's actually better than I remembered. There really didn't need to be another Dracula film after that one - it's the be all as far as I'm concerned.

It's fantastic (mostly) the retro effects, the storybook sets. The music. Fantastic film. Oldman was iconic.
Keanu was embarrassing.

As legend goes, Coppola's son directed most of it, except the scenes with the major actors. Oldman was a nightmare on set, there is some great footage of him having a diva strop with Coppola about motivation when he is asked to walk up some steps. :lol

I've yet to watch the extra features on the disc, but I doubt the dummy spits are on there. I can totally see him being that way too. :lol

Another thing, those creature costumes - damn!! :rock

I actually think one of the diva strops is on the making of. He was wired to the moon when making Dracula.
Yeah, all the costumes & designs were incredible, even the lizard like funeral dress Lucy wore. Amazing stuff.

That dude sucks in all his movies now. Only liked him in District 9.

I second this.

:horror Really ? He was especially bad in Elysium with his overacting.
He wasn't overacting, I've heard south African accents that thick, he was awesome.

Unless Keanu is using a gun or kicking someone in the face, he's usually the weak link :lol

I don't know, I think back in 1992 he was still partially in Bill & Ted mode in some of his earlier films; mannerisms, the lot.

He was even channeling that voice in Point Break for god's sake. :lol

Sorry I really enjoyed Lost In Space and Oldman was a great Smith- why this movie is attacked so much is beyond me- it's briliant compared to it's source material, very much entertaining and great to watch....
