Marvel had a home run with Daredevil but comes up short with Jessica Jones.
My problem with the story is that her powers/strength/abilities...seem to differ in the episodes when she used them.
One minute she's lifting someone and jumping into the nights sky yet she can't fight off 3 special op guys?
The bar fight with Luke Cage was the same.i know she wasn't going to go full strength on civilians but they got up and walked away!

On Episode 10, and I have to say, what the ****, Netflix?

**Spoilers for Both Jessica Jones and Daredevil**

What is it with the awesome, older black characters dying at the end of the first seasons of each show? First, Urich, and now Clemons, two years away from retirement. That one leaves me kind of sore because I'm still trying to separate him from Freamon on The Wire, in my mind.:lol

I liked JJ better than DD, found the characters much more fleshed out and engaging than DD and Kilgrave is a much more dangerous and imposing villain than Fisk. Ritter completely owns her role and won me over in spite of my having massive prior doubts about her acting abilities. I also never cared much for Colter in his previous roles but now I'm looking forward to Luke Cage's show next year. It's a hard sell for the superhero crowd though and doesn't offer much fight scenes, so I get why a lot of people don't like it, but for me I found this to be a better overall effort than DD, which I enjoyed but found a bit formulaic. Show's far from perfect, some elements (i.e. Simpson) seem completely unnecessary and suffers the same mid-season pacing issues that plagued DD, but it delivers a noticeable improvement over Marvel TV's first Netflix attempt.

Finished the season, it was different (in a good way). Enjoyed it but I didn't love it. Tenant was great, Cage is interesting but I never fully bought into the Jones character....still couldn't tell you what super power she possesses. It was very random, sporadic .... and why does Luke Cage wear a motorcycle helmet? :lol

Up to episode 8.....still doesn't feel like a comic book movie more like some weird sci fI / drama. Either way I am enjoying it

Good. It's not suppossed to.

I don’t believe in the comic book genre. I don’t believe in the superhero genre. I believe that each of our films can be very different. - Kevin Feige

I'm enjoying the Netflix series a lot more than the MCU films to be honest. Only have 2 episodes left of Jessica Jones and I think it's been great.

Can't wait for Luke Cage's series, but most impatient for Iron Fist. Hopefully we will get a casting announcement soon since I think his character would be best introduced in Luke's series.
I also like this more than the movies I think. I finished watching JJ last night, and it was really great. Possibly better than DD in the sense that I felt more consistent tension throughout the show.

How great was the purple man? And such a novel way of handling a comic villain, in that from day one the hero, despite whatever physical strengths she has, seems totally powerless to her main rival.
I loved the various twists and turns of the season, particularly when they lived together and toyed with the idea of JJ helping Kilgrave become a hero despite his intrinsic disinterest in that.

I also felt a bit of excitement at the prospect of the Defenders crossover, or any crossovers prior to that really. And I thought I was desensitized to that at this point, with how much Marvel Studios has done it theatrically. But this feels different somehow.
And we still haven't seen the big meeting between DD and Jones/Cage, so they're certainly keeping us hungry for that.

Nuke was a pretty great, left field addition. I only know of him because I had the Captain America comics he was in from the '80s. A very weird, memorable comic character turned into a very weird, memorable TV character. Would like to see him mix it up with Punisher at some point.

I finished episode 4 on Saturday. And I'm torn about it. The whole show creeps me out and makes me very uneasy with the Purple Man and how he works. And that's the point, so I guess it's succeeding...but it's creepy to the point where I struggle putting it on. I don't necessarily like that, but that's more on me than it is on the writers, I suppose.

I find Ritter to be a great actress, BUT...I don't buy her physically as an ex-superhero. She's just so...scrawny. Luke looks like he's going to break her every time they hook up.

I do really like Luke Cage's characterization. Not a big fan of his in the comics, but I like the live-action version.
I thought her powers worked pretty well, but it was weird seeing how physically vulnerable she was. She can be cut, knocked out, etc. pretty easily in some instances (like when the car hit her). Yet she can take a full on hit from Cage and keep going. The lack of consistency on that level took me out a bit. I wasn't sure whether she was supposed to be super durable or not.

More disappointed that it happened with this guy, since he was a great Wire alumnus.

Luke answered that for Jessica.....and you: he said because it's the law.

Another moment with Jessica I wasn't tuned in.....eh well. Thanks for the clarification.

My comment wasn't a testament that is should be a comic book show moreso it simply felt like something else. It is either good or bad for whatever your looking for in these shows. It wasn't bad, I liked it overall for the grittiness and a few of the sub characters. I had a hard time relating to the main character as she had a single act from start to finish. She didn't portray much depth....actually wound up enjoying the villain more.

Did issue two happen? That's is the issue that hooks readers (well all my Marvel mates), into reading the entire series in one night.

So I've watched 2 episodes.... First episode almost made me not want to watch the second. Don't even have much interest to watch the third. Hope it gets better. Luke Cage was portrayed well and great casting choice for him. Don't really care much for the main character so far or the actress portraying her. All the sex in the first episode felt like it had no actual purpose other than shock? Was very unnecessary. The openning seen was a bit much. This isn't HBO. :lol Marvel needs to be careful with these Netflix shows. I now these are supposed to be much darker grim and grittier, and yes carry MA ratings, but there are lots of people interested in this stuff that know nothing about it and will let their kids watch it without previewing it for themselves first. The movies are family entertainment and parents become comfortable with seeing the Marvel logo and thinking it's all the same. My son and daughter (10 year olds) both wanted to watch these (Daredevil and Jessica Jones), and I was like nope sorry, not gonna happen even before I watched it. It's like this whole sub story that's part of their universe that's not accessible to a big part of their audience. Especially if these characters at some point wind up being seen on the big screen. Kids are gonna want to see where they came from. Surprised Disney is all in with these having such a different mature tone...

Eh, let them tell the story they want to tell. Alias, the book that inspired the show, was part of Marvel's MAX Mature line, and, honestly, the fact that they are delivering adult oriented shows like these makes me more comfortable with how they'll handle characters like The Punisher. There's plenty of family friendly stuff on the big screen. Personally, I love the way these shows flesh out the MCU.

The woman who wanted to kill Jessica because she blamed all "gifted" people for her mother dying in the Battle of New York was a brilliant move that added an entirely new dimension to the events that took place in the films. It casts such a dark shadow over all of the heroism in The Avengers and I feel like it adds weight to it all. It's one thing to see Cap rescuing hostages from a Chitauri squadron, but it's another thing entirely to imagine an old woman being crushed by debris that could've fallen off of a building Hulk was smashing through.

There's a lot of deeper meaning in everything that happens in this show.

IMO the show just builds layers upon itself and how they handle it is brilliant.

It's a mature series based on a mature comic book. It's not my problem if parents can't do 2 minutes worth of research on Google to see if it's age appropriate for their kid. I think Daredevil and Jessica Jones have been extremely well done and capture the tone of their comics better than I'd hoped.

First off, no, cause yeah, that was in the first issue, and as people said, it was part of the MAX line so they honestly just adapted part of the first issue pretty damn well. It wasn't for shock value at all, it was to show that Jess still wanted to feel someone anything, she was so numb at that point that she just wanted to at least feel something whether it was emotional, mental, or physical. You can google the famous butt sex page. But I hope it means that their hookups mean that we'll eventually get little Dani Cage. :D I personally think that this show has actually improved on everything that Alias did.

This isn't HBO? Have you SEEN the **** that's on Netflix originals? Orange is the New Black has been as dirty as anything on HBO.

First episode of Orange :lol

Finished it the other day. I appreciate the mature tone. So far these netflix shows are two for two on having better villains than any of the MCU movies. Kilgrave was despicable but almost sympathetic. Well developed. Portrayed fantastic by Tenant (who I will never look at the same again :lol)

I haven't seen much in this show that was merely for shock. If people are "shocked" by sex scenes then they need to leave their hometown and see the world a bit :lol. I did think one or two of em went on for too long though :lol

My only real complaint with this was it was maybe an episode or two too long. After the kilgrave stuff from episode 8-10, which was fantastic, it kind of petered out a bit and seemed to meander towards the finale. I ended satisfied though. I hope this gets a second season.
