Response from roswell:

Best wishes for a bright New Year.

Thank you for your information. I checked the message boards about the damaged aliens.

Today, I sent the e-mail to hobby search asking for your order. However, I have not received the e-mail from hobby search so cannot recognize their delivery schedule.

If your alien statues had a trouble during the shipping, we would send you replacement. Please put your heart at ease.

Thank you for your information and order. Your concern is appreciated.

This sounds reassuring. Roswell's CS is pretty good considering that they'll even go out of their way to contact another distributor to check up on the condition of their statues.

Awesome. Here's mine.

""Dear, John

Best wishes for a bright New Year.

Thank you for your e-mail and the photos.
Unfortunately, we had the New year holiday from Dec.30 to Jan.4
I could not check all business e-mail.

Sorry for the damage of your Alien statues.
We had same damage problem from the customers.

Upon examining the problem, the arm parts ( under arm parts ) came off.
We think that the condition was caused by a black box did not have enough
height.
However, we will test again and send you replacement after the test ASAP.
Could you give us some time for testing?
We would like to give you a sufficient countermeasures.

The hole is right on center of the front is a kind of mark that is for
checking the center of statues.
Sano put the mark for localization so all kits and statues have same hole.

We will respond to issues related to the damage and packaging problem same
as last time.
Now we are working very hard for the problems.
We will get back to you once complete our preparations.

Thank you again.

Yumiko Maki"

Hobby Search are also doing their bit to make sure customers receive their Sano Aliens undamaged. I received this email from them today:

"Thank you very much for contacting us.

Regarding this packaging problem, we have been in touch with Roswell Japan, and they are offering to re-pack the statues this time for us, so that the package is safer for shipment overseas.

We also intend to bubblewrap the package that Roswell Japan will be sending us, and put this in a larger box, just to make the package more secure for shipment.

Although this process will take a little time, this is for the best safety of the statues, so we hope you can understand and wait a little longer for the shipment of your order.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience, thank you very much."

Good to know that they're taking this seriously and are putting measures in place. :clap

Work on my Sano kit is beginning today.:clap It will be a slow process though, as I have to keep up with commissions at the same time. I think slow is best on this excellent piece though. I'll post progress pics along the way.

I got the same email from HS as well.

This is very reassuring to say the least! I guess our emails to Roswell and HS has payed off. Now I can sleep a lil' better knowing that our statues are being better taken care of for over seas shipping. I'm very happy with this new info. :yess: :clap

Looking forward to seeing how you're going to add the details in under the dome. Can't wait for the progress pics. Good luck :wink1:

BTW what are the hoses (the ones that connect the rear of the jaws to its back) made of? Are they also resin? -- I just worry about the fragility of certain parts - esp the fingers...

from that standpoint, I kinda like that this version doesn't have the elbow spikes....

also - the first time I saw their packing of the statue, it reminded me of a high school project wherein I devised a system of packing an egg in a 6 by 6 by 6 box by suspending the egg inside the box by stretchy materials (hosiery) -- it was then dropped from a 30 foot height -- it survived the fall -- so I'm wondering if perhaps just the shock of movement is loosening the arms off or causing the statue to press so hard into the plastic at the wrists or hands, that it just pops off...

The hoses are resin on the kit.

Is resin more rigid than abs plastic? would it break before it flexes?
resin is basically like a cold cast plastic, right? Or is this like the polystone that SS uses (with plastic / polymer elements mixed in?)

Resin has slightly more flex than polystone, and can be heated and reposed to some degree. Without heat, it has less flex than plastic. ABS plastic is more durable than resin, and lighter, but it doesn't usually maintain its structural integrity if heated and doesn't capture detail as well as resin.

Update from RJ.

"Hello, John.

Thank you very much for your understanding.
Now we are working for high quality packaging a lot.
Could you give us some time to prepare?

The hole on the base cannot fill and smooth out now as supervising had done.
However, I informed your opinion to Mr., Sano
We will consider an offer from your opinion to new items.

Mr. Sano knows you from the forums, too.

Thank you again.

Yumiko"

I must've missed something...what's with the base and the hole?

oh also another communication from Yumiko stating that Roswell will pick up and pack international orders and send them directly to us -- (I ordered from HS for example) -- but I'm getting delivery directly from Roswell
