Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I liked Eleventh hour, God complex, Vincent and the Doctor, Impossible Astronaut, The Doctor wife, Victory of the Daleks and Amys choice.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Eleventh Hour was the 11th Doctors finest hour IMO .
Smith is likable as the Doctor, but David was a hard act to follow. Moff hasn't helped by allowing childish stories to dominate the show. At one point I thought the Sarah Jane adventures were better than the Who adventures.

Totally agree. I even thought some of the SJA monsters were better at times.

Smith's had some stand out episodes for me most of which have already been mentioned, but the continuing storyline presented throughout Amy and Rory's (whom I really like) run has been lackluster for me. I really liked River Song in "Silence in the Library", but now...meh. I just feel like Moffat tries too hard to be clever sometimes and it ends up taking away from the series as a whole. To me his best stories came in RTD era when he had someone to reign him in.

Bunch of great information there, thanks for sharing.

What excellent information! Thank you for this. That's what makes this forum, out of all the ones I contribute to, the best. We fall out, we argue, people get put on then taken off 'Ignore' lists...and then someone puts a truly helpful post like this up.

You're very welcome. :hi5:

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

See, to me I like the Moffat era better than the RTD era for one simple reason. While the high points/best episodes of both RTD and Moffat are of a similar overall quality in my opinion, and I have enjoyed all of the Doctors and their companions since the show returned, the low points are nowhere near as low with Moffat as they were with RTD. For me anyway.

I mean for example I'll take any lesser Moffat era episode you care to mention over the likes of Love & Monsters, Fear Her, or anything involving a farting Slitheen, just to give a few easy examples (and there are a few more of the RTD era I'd add to that list). Yes, there were many great episodes in the RTD era, but there were quite a few real stinkers too.

Moffat didn't turn out to be the man with the golden touch, as he was long touted as, and as many fans hoped him to be, but at the same time I find his seasons to be more consistently enjoyable overall, with no lows anywhere near as low as the RTD era had.

And personally I'll take a show runner who sometimes thinks he's cleverer than he actually is, over one who had a tendency to go all kitchen sink in going so far over the top and flying in the face of any conceivable logic, just to try to force another huge worldwide threat onto screen, which would then be solved deus ex machina style right at the end. I mean there are occasions of that with Moffat, but nowhere near to the same degree as they were with RTD.

Sorry guys....RTD all the way! He single-handedly revived the series with a next to nothing budget. All Moff has is like a billion pounds to do whatever he likes. TBH I dont think anyone can argue with RTD dialogue...the ones he wrote on obv. I mean look at Midnight...absolutely no budget but sooo emotionally charged. He's simply masterful. Plus lets take the time to remember that RTD's work on Doctor Who is what earned him the OBE ;)

Like the Doctor falling 10,00 feet from an aircraft, crashing through a re-enforced glass roof of his intended target, splatting to the floor in a bloody heap....and then just getting up and dusting himself off! :cuckoo: :gah: :slap

Yes. Moff>RTD in many respects. But it's true about him reviving WHO fantastically though, but then I like Chris Ecclestone's Doctor very much indeed.

Ugh.

I do think Moffat is the bigger disappointment but meh.

RTD and his fart jokes is light years behind Moff.

Oh, I don't know. I'm sure kids loved it. I personally feel that RTD's era was much more accessible to a wider audience. Even the hardcore fans can't figure out half of Moff's plots, and Davies is unbeatable when it comes to emotional dialog. For the record, I love both writers. Doctor Who's greatest strength is how it keeps changing and keeps staying fresh.

I'll always be grateful for RTD bringing the show back, and doing so in a way that was so successful that it pretty much guaranteed that it would remain on screens for many years to come. There's no greater gift to fans than that.

But his era is kind of like a modern day JNT to me in many ways (only in reverse as far as the general popularity goes). I love the Doctors of the era, and I never lost my love for the show, even through the rough spots, but it sometimes felt like some of the ideas just weren't quite thought all the way through, or were done more because they could and because they thought it's be a laugh, or look cool, rather than because they should, or that any of it made any kind of logical sense. And the lower points, for me, often tended to be real facepalm level doozies that often undermined everything they got so right.

But that said, there were still more than enough hits and enough forward momentum to keep this long time fan around, and more happy than not. And again it's not that I dislike RTD or his era, as much as I just find it wildly uneven overall.

As for Moffat, I'm very interested to see how things shape up with a new dynamic in the Tardis, as far as the new companion goes, and what impact that has on the show, and Moffat's direction with it.

One of the things that RTD did quite well was rotating the cast, and not keeping companions around past their used by date (though he did tend to bring them back, a lot... :lol), whereas Moffat hasn't really extended the regular cast all that much at all beyond those that had been established by the end of The 11th Hour. So will the new companion also change the direction and flavour of the show a bit, or will it just be another sassy lass in the Tardis, and business as usual? Because if it is the latter, then it might be coming up to the time to shake the show up a bit again, with some fresh blood at the reigns.

Wait and see how next year pans out first, I guess. I have high hopes, but then I always do.

Wow, those paint jobs on the first two are pretty bad - that green and blue staining is awful. I'd send them back to BC if I was you. Glad one of your figures was okay though.*

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

The Idea that the Doctor can't go back for the ponds is really stupid, So he can never see them again because the tardis won't be able to travel to that place and time but could he not go back a few years later from that date to a different location else and travel to Manhattan without the tardis?

I'm sure if he even sets foot in Manhattan during that period the whole universe will explode or some such nonsense. They always have to cook up something like that or else the Doctor could just go back and save everybody all the time. That's the achilles heel of time travel stories.
