Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Finally I got round to finishing the 5inch Dr Who Action figure full repaint. Everything on the Left is the Before and everything on the right is the repaint. This is a great likeness but then again it was scanned directly from the actor.

I'd rather a classic console over this but how fantastic would it feel to be the child who designed this Tardis and have it shown in the show AND made into a toy.

:lecture

Fact is more people will likely by this one-off console than would buy a classic version. That being said, I hope this one off goes to funding a proper classic version.

They should have made the kid a one off piece in a fancy display case and left it at that.

A Classic console could be resold with different Doctors and companions so they'd get more use out of the mold but the junk console will likely be used once and that's it.

Between decisions like this, the rate at which the accuracy and QC on the Classic line is declining and the lack of distribution of the Character Building figures in my area my patience with CO is beginning to wear a bit thin.

Maybe this console is a marketing strategy to test the waters?

Possibly but considering that the Classic line is now sold entirely through specialist collector stores I would have thought any testing of the waters in the mass market Nu-Who lines would have little relation to it.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The 11 Docs set wasn't sold that way.

It's also not been the greatest of sellers because most kids in this country,

1.Haven't a clue the show existed pre-2005.
( I've heard several comments along the lines of "why are there 11 Doctors? there's only been 3!")

2.Don't want figures of "old men"
( Again this is based on stuff I've heard kids saying when looking at the box set and Classic retail waves in TRU and supermarkets. )

The playset of the 9th/10th Doctor's console room also warmed shelves for months and when the time came to resell I couldn't even give mine away and ended up dumping it.

Greggo,
Very nice job! Have you ever repainted any Classic figures?

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Hmmm... I was under the impression (via folk at GB) that the 11 Docs set had actually proved to be quite a boon in the sales dept.

I expect they're some of the same apologist types like the tools at Outpost Who that try to tell me the QC issues are "isolated incidents" despite evidence to the contrary.

CO could do a number 2 into a plastic bubble, card it up and they'd still try and spin it into being a good thing for the line :lol

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Now I've established which episode the junk TARDIS console is from and that the episode was so good I might consider buying the playset.

The playset would seem a perfect opportunity for an Idris figure being made to go with it but that's probably too logical for CO's marketing department.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The set actually looks a little bit too plain for my tastes... we'll see as pics start coming out.

An Idris figure would seal the deal for me.

I was in TRU on Friday and got my first look at the Character Building figures and they're rather cute.

CO are also doing figures in the same style for their HM Armed Forces line,

The one with the wrench would make a perfect Classic UNIT Trooper :clap

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I'm totally tracking this down to go with my Raggedy Doctor.

Unless you know someone in the UK who's going to the Doctor Who Experience exhibition in London be prepared to pay in the region of £50 for it.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Amelie Pond looks good exclusive figure.Only Doctor Who figure I have is 11th doctor with red bowtie.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

My contact who was going to get it for me fell through. :monkey2

Apparently CO have told the people at the exhibition not to allow more than 2 per customer under any circumstances.

If CO's past exclusives are anything to go by a slightly different version of Amelia will probably emerge in another set before too long.

I was hoping to get to the exhibition myself but the travel costs mean it's looking unlikely :(
