Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

With the exception of the SDCC Exclusives the Doctor Who figures are too mass produced to stand much of a chance of being worth anything down the line so unless you really like all the boxes I'd get rid of them.
Doctorwhotoys.net has the latest part of their interview with the people who do the sculpting for Character Options up on their site and whilst reading it I picked up an intresting bit of info regarding likenesses.
It says any actor who's actual face appears on screen in any way (ie not under a mask) has the right to approve a figure or not and in some cases it took 6 attempts at a sculpt before they got the all clear.
With this in mind I think anybody who's hoping for a new figure of Rose might be in for a disappointment as Billie Piper is apparently not enthusiastic about having such things made and only agreed to the previous figures because she wasn't given much choice when it came to signing the contract to be in the show in the first place.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

That's ok, I've no great desire for another Rose figure anyway.

Regarding value, some of the first Wave UK figures (no series idents) are very rare and worth a lot. I've just bought the original Cassandra for £20, and the original light blue Moxx, and the Cassandra & Chip 2 pack are also valuable. For some reason the dark blue Clockwork Droid seems to fetch more than most of the others on eBay too.

Anyway, generally I agree - most of the figures aren't rare or valuable, but some of them are.

Still on their cards maybe, but loose? Nah.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

There are shots of the SDCC exclusives on Dr Who Toys.

The 10th Doctor is a tweaked version with a Burgundy shirt.

Edit: Here you go.

The Time Crash set is particularly lazy even by Character Options standards.
They go to the trouble of sculpting the celery on the 5th Doctor's jacket but don't bother sculpting an aged Peter Davison head,WTF???

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Rubbish isn't it. It's yet another minor tweak aimed at collectors. I mean, the Damaged Cyberman was a cool idea, but this is a case of sticking a tiny accessory on a lapel (and it really should be on the standard figure anyway), and painting a shirt burgundy!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

It's not lazy really.. It's a matter of UT wanted an exclusive that would make sense but didn't want to go through the hassle of going through approvals for a new head all for an exclusive with little lead time.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I wouldn't want one with the older head. If they could've done Time Crash with a younger PD I would've preferred it so the younger likeness is AOK with me. :D

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I've probably just missed it (I haven't been able to keep up with the DWForum) but WHY isn't the regular 5th Doctor going to have the celery?? I mean, he had it in every story and it can't be for any technical reason. Has anyone from CO said?

If they don't like the way it looks, well tough. He wore it. While they are at it why not redesign the 6th Doctor's outfit then? I just don't get being so accurate on most the figures but then only having the celery for the SDCC set.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Because the release is supposedly specific to the story Castrovalva where he had no celery. I think that explanation is garbage, personally. But there it is.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I heard that the guy who sculpted the figure hated it,and when he pointed this out to Davidson he laughed and said he hated it too!So it was removed.

Do nt you just love it when people bring it upon themselves to deal out this revisionist crap:rolleyes:

It's total BS and the BBC shouldn't allow the sculptors to take those sort of liberties.
If someone tried that with a Star Wars figure the company making it would have the license taken away quicker than a closing blast door.
Torchwood wave 2 has been announced and will include,

Toshiko Sato
Ianto Jones
Owen Harper
Captain John Hart
Blowfish

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I'll get Tosh Ianto and Owen. Not too interested in the aliens and such in this line.

I'll just be getting Tosh and maybe Jack & Gwen from series 1.
Back to Doctor Who the 1-2-3 wave is starting to hit stores here in the UK so when the 3 figures I've ordered from Forbidden Planet (Martha,Captain Jack and the Slitheen with skin suit) I'll post some pics.
