Make mine Celery!

So my Time Crash set from SDCC courtesy the fine folks at WhoNA arrived this morning. Thought I would share a few pictures for those so inclined.

The packaging is nice, with a write up of the Time Crash episode. Unfortunately I didn't see any mention of Children in Need. In case you were wondering the stickers are now INSIDE the packaging. That goes for the Choking Hazard and the numbered exclusive sticker. I believe all the Top Trumps cards are Dalek Sec as well. I may scan the back later but for now here is the packaged shot:

Now before we get to the full loose shots let me give my impressions. The Fifth Doctor is OUTSTANDING. Nice solid plastic, very nice paint work with very little slop. He has articulation at the neck, shoulders, biceps, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, mid thigh and knees. :google You also get his Sonic Screwdriver (and we all know what happens to that eventually). Now for Ten.. poor, poor Ten. This is basically a rehash of the first Series 3 Ten just with a different color shirt. He still has the rubber hands and articulation at the neck, elbows, waist, hips and knees. Very lacking next to his earlier incarnation. He does have his Sonic though, and you can never have too many Sonics. Now for the pictures!

Overall very worth the $35 price tag for the set I think. Knowing that it is/should/ will be going to Children in Need makes it a little easier to swallow as well. Wish they would have put a blurb about that on the package though. Anyway, great set, glad I got it... now I just need to find Five a hat. Oh and don't forget - make mine celery! :rotfl

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I haven't heard a word from my SDCC contact about Time Crash... I sure hope she got them. :monkey2

Pix if your contact didn't get a Time Crash set for you then BBTS has it in stock.
Nice review and pics Memnoch ,I still think the 5th Doctor is half assed considering Peter Davison looked noticeably older in the episode but it's a very nice figure all the same and that bit of celery makes it look more accurate for the majority of his run than the one in the first wave of Classic figures.

UK catalogue chain Argos launched their new catalogue today and looking at the website I discovered it has the following stuff in it,

Flight Control Tardis with "Bad Wolf" written on the side £14.99
( Kind of a dubious rehash IMO but would be good in series 1 display )

series 4 wave 1 £7.99 each
( I'm gonna check my local store tomorrow to see if they have these in stock as there's already several figs showing up as in hand on ebay for silly prices )

1-2-3 wave £7.99 each

The following isn't in stock yet,

Plush Adipose £9.99

Fires Of Pompeii 2-pack £14.99

Sontaran Stratagem 4-pack £19.99

Journey's End 4-pack £19.99

5" R/C Supreme Dalek £19.99

12" R/C Supreme Dalek £39.99

Perhaps most conspicuous by it's absence is Classics wave 1 which just about confirms my theory that the Classic line will be aimed strictly at adult collectors and only sold in specialist collector stores like Forbidden Planet.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Thanks for the link bcm. :rock

I wonder if they will ever sell Davros separate from TSE pack?

If my contact doesn't come through I will hit them.

No problem!
I think a single release of Davros Palpatine and the Supreme Dalek are pretty likely for series 4 wave 2 as most of the other figures that get released in a multipack first get single releases not long after. Off the top of my head the only one I can think of that hasn't (yet) is the Pig Slave.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Davros is going to get a single carded release, although I don't know when. What I really want to see Character do is a Journey's End box set or something to get all the Assistants/Companions to the Doctor from the final episode. We already have Jack, Ten and a very very close Sarah Jane. Just need Donna, Mickey, Martha.. all of whom are good shots. The problems I see are Jackie and Rose.

Also, bcm, maybe you know, but are there any Dalek figures out that correspond to the more bronze color and not the bright gold colors of the early Dalek figures?

To be honest I've never noticed a difference in the colors of the gold/bronze ones but here's the 5" ones that have been released so far,

Radio controlled
Assault Dalek
Mutant Reveal
1 in the Army Of Ghosts set
3 in the Genesis Ark set

I went to my nearest Argos today to see if they had any of the series 4 figures in stock but no luck. I'm going to go to a couple of the other Argos stores in my area later this week so if I hit the jackpot I'll post some pics.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Picked up some Series 4 figures from the Stamp Shop in London today. The guy also let me fondle a 5th Doc in packaging, and he had the 4th Doc, SV7 and the big K1 Robot all loose behind the counter. He said to call on Wednesday and he should have the Classic Series figures in then.

In the meantime I got the Sontaran Box Set, Pyrovile Priestess, Ood Sigma and Natural Ood. They also had Commander Storr, but no point getting him single carded as he is in the box set.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I've got all series 4, save Pryrovile Priestess, on order from Forbidden Planet and am going to wait then for the Sontaran Box set to make it's way over here. And just be safe, last night I pre-ordered Doctors Four and Six. Again, if I want any of the monsters I can wait until they come over here too.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Just out of interest, how much are the single carded figures in the US?

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Depends on the retailer. I usually buy from www.WhoNA.com as they have the best selection and the normal, non popular figures run about $10.99. However some things, like the Screaming Angels, are running between $10.99 and $15.99

How good are the Classics figs in person and how tall is the K1 Robot compared to the 4th Doctor?

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

They look absolutely brilliant, to tell you the truth. The SV7 robot looks particularly good, one of those flawless scuplts that just has you wishing the whole line was that good.

I guess the K1 robot is about twice the height. It's very impressive looking, and I could see his arm in the 5th Doctor Packaging. I really wanted to run off with it!

I should have said that he also had the 6th Doc, but as he was my least favourite of all 10 so far perhaps I blanked that from my memory!

That's great to hear,I've got the entire wave on order (some from Play.com and some from Forbidden Planet) and I'm really looking forward to them.
Did you see both 4th Doctor sculpts and if so how is the one without the hat as from the pics I've seen so far it doesn't look quite as good as the other one.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

It was only the hat sculpt and it looked ace from where I was standing. They were behind the counter, so I didn't get an up close look.

Anyway, I got home and opened up the new figures. Jesus, this new packaging is borderline impregnable! After hacking away with a pair of scissors I finally got them out, and I have to say I'm very impressed. Perhaps it's the long wait for brand new Who sculpts (when were the last proper new figures? Weeping Angels, Scarecrows etc? Ages ago!), but the Sontarans in particular are fantastic!

The facial sculpts are obviously spot on, but what I wasn't expecting was the new level of articulation, namely ball jointed feet and a similarly jointed torso:

Foot.jpg

This really gives them a boost over other Who figures, and I hope it's a sign of things to come. The torso twists all the way around (you can keep going until it's pointing the wrong way), and you can rock it back and forth, and left & right, like this:

Leaning1.jpg

Leaning3.jpg

Only minus point is that the helmets don't quite snick into place as they should, at least not without a bit of force. The trooper's helmet is non-removeable though, so you do at least get one with a tight fit!
