No, I'm saying if the sculpt/likeness are excellent these maquettes will sell very well in spite of the fact these characters have already been done previously by Weta. I made no reference to SS producing multiples of the same character, nor did I ever mention anything even remotely along the lines of having the same poses repeated.

I wasn't thrilled when Weta did multiples of the same character [thus ignoring alot of characters that could have/should have been done], and I wouldn't be thrilled if SS does it. As for the poses, I've yet to see anything so far where this is a valid concern and I think we both know SS has no intention of simply copying what was previously done by Weta.

No, you didn't mention anything about repeats, but them the few posts above all that was talking about a 'repeat' of the WKTF pose, etc, so I assumed you were continuing that train of thought.
Doing something 'different' from a pose point of view and with luck characters as well is another matter, which I'll cover more in the other thread.

The key is to do it in a different way. People on the Weta forums are saying Weta could do an 'Isengard' environment that includes the ring-wall, and be different enough to not seem like a re-boot of Orthanc, the same way Weta did a mini balrog or smaller 'attack' troll. As an Orthanc owner, i wouldn't mind that at all, i'd even buy it aswell.

How about if they added a conservatory and a few Laura Ashley curtains :rotfl

I would think there should be an outhouse (privy) somewhere on the property. Of course, we never see anything like that in the books or the movies. No wonder everybody was so uptight all of the time (except the hobbits).

Just to make sure, the announced Aragorn belongs to this line, right?
And they are still (hopefully) releasing the other characters right?

Not sure though if I want to see Boromir if the likeness is as good as Aragorn´s... well hell yeah I want to see it anyway, :lol

Yes, that previewed Aragorn is from this line. Around 6 or so others are already in some stage of production.

Great! I was fearing this line had been cancelled. Thanks :)

*crosses fingers hoping this line isn´t dropped before reaching Boromir*

I'm diggin' what I see so far. I've wanted to see a bad-ass 1/6th Aragorn/Strider statue for forever!

I don't know much about maquettes. Is there much difference in price between these and the Premium Format figures?

Hard to say for sure since we only have one maquette so far, but I think it reasonable to expect the PF's to be will be approx. $60-80 more on average. That howver, is always subject to change depending on the size of the PF.

I was gone for most of the holiday weekend, so I haven't had a chance to post much and didn't see anyone else bring this up from yesterday's (7/5) Q & A:

Q: Thank you for the fantastic Lord of the Rings lines that you are producing. I was really thrilled when you posted that there is going to be a 1/6 scale statue line…what I would like to know is; how will they be released? Will it be like the Dioramas…1 or 2 every now and then, or will you release some maquettes all at once?

A: They’ll definitely be spaced out, starting with Aragorn and Gandalf. We’re likely to follow with a new announcement every other month or so.

I'm sure that every other month estimate was a very liberal estimate, but even if we get one maquette every quarter that'll be a huge pace, especially for anything in the LOTR license.

So now with the announcement of Gandalf, I've jumped into this line and have been skimming this thread. Lots of great opinions here. In the past I collected the 1/6, but jettisoned them when it became apparent there would be no full fellowship. Also, I think I have finally determined that I am more inclined to statues than figures. Now I eagerly jumped at this line and then went to watch the preview video again. I know I watched it in the past but now I have become aware that it may take a long time to get a full fellowship. I'm in at any rate, but if they really stick to every two months, that would be a stretch for my collecting budget. Quarterly would work better, and personally three a year would be the best pace for me.

Anyway, just checking in to say I'm back in the LOTR section and eagerly awaiting this new line. They look fantastic to me.

Was the original cave troll done in 1/6 scale? I thought I remember reading it was smaller than that.

Yeah, it was smaller than 1:6th but the statue itself is still damn big. I don't think SS will do anything bigger cause of price and shipping ability of the piece. The SSW one was a real pain getting to people in one piece.

It isn't all that much smaller than 1:6 scale though, pretty close. :yess:
