Well there is two problems with this.

One its a big middle finger to season ticket holders who have to pay full price for a seat to watch backups play, after already having to do so in the pre season.

Two the Jets do not deserve to be in the playoffs, there were given a spot they did not earn because but pure luck they got to play a team they didnt need to win and chose to give up the game even though they were leading.
Well, if you gave a poll to Patriots season ticket holders regarding how they feel about Belichick starting Welker on Sunday, I suspect they would prefer to hop into the Delorean and stop him from being played.

I don't think too many season ticket people who will probably only have 1 (usually 2 at the most) games without all the starters playing anyway will be upset about a coach acting in the best interest of a team that has played well through most of the regular season and has a good chance of success in the playoffs.

As for the Jets getting in the playoffs, Palmer and other starters played most of that game, and played pitifully. Assuming they weren't playing hard because they didn't feel a reason to, how is the NFL going to force starters to play like a game matters when it doesn't? They would have to change the incentives suggestion to not only having starters play, but win what would otherwise be pointless games. I don't like that idea at all.

Again, I feel coaches and teams who succeed should be given more options as a result of their hard work.

i don't have the total solution, but 1 quick and easy step to add more meaning to the last 3 weeks of the season is to schedule them all as division games.

Welkers injury was a freak injury and could have happened just as easy in practice as in a game. It wasnt a contact injury he just cut and went down. I actually wonder if most the damage was there already and it was just a ticking bomb in his knee.

Last game is usually a division game for most teams, isn't it? I figure that is enough. Better to space those out throughout the season so that teams play divisional rivals early, half-way through, and toward the end, so that they get a feel for each other at the various points of the season, but. . .that isn't always how it goes. Saints didn't have any divisional games til nearly halfway through the season, then they were all clumped together. I thought that was dumb.

Maybe, maybe not. It happened during a game when the outcome didn't really matter much, and may well have not happened otherwise. In any case, the Saints starters were only half-way there on Sunday. Meachem got hurt, and could have been seriously injured. Henderson just gave up on plays, because they didn't care. That's what is gonna happen if you force starters to play. Only bad things can happen from there.

Bengals didn't show up to play the Jets and they never even tried to play a single down much less win a game that and with the Colts giving the Jets a win the previous week I can see why the NFL wants to do something about teams tanking it.

I got to root against the Jets now for making in based on two teams giving them wins to do so.

But like I said earlier, at least Palmer and Ochocinco were playing most of that game (I assume other starters were, though I don't know who the Bengals starters are and wasn't paying much attention anyway), but they played like crap. Though I don't know for sure, folks here who say the Jets didn't deserve to get into the playoffs seem to be attributing this to the fact that the game was pointless from the Bengals' perspective.

If so, the question remains--you can force starters to play, but how do you force them to play hard? If they aren't playing hard, why force them to play at all? Who wants to see that?

That would be awesome!

(except the SD winning part)

I'd love to see that.

But in reality it could be anyone, like Packers Bengals.

I love the AFC fans talking tough. WE ALL know that whatever NFC team gets in there is almost a winner. However, my post is meant only if the Colts lose. If the Colts lose no other AFC team has a prayer.

Those Chargers Look like they can kick all sorts of ass! Not sure what team in the NFC is better.

Any of them.

:rotfl:rotfl:rotfl Like the Saints that have lost 3 game in a row and some of those to crappy ass teams? The Vikings which have been loosing games they should have won? or Maybe Green Bay.:rotfl or maybe the Eagles that got Shutdown by the cowboys. that also kicked Saints ass. Maybe The Cowboys do have a chance.
