The NFL is facing several legal cases and this is their scapegoat. They will throw this up in any legal matter and say "this is what we did to the Saints when we learned of the situation."
Yeah, the motive and the rationale for actions at this level are scarcely the same, I would bet. There are probably multiple reasons why this happened, the actual intention of punishing a team for bad behavior not necessarily being at the top of the list.

If Shockey was the whistle blower, Bree's has lots more explaining to do. He swears he knew nothing and rational was he wasn't in defensive meeting. Wait neither was Shockey.

The biggest reason they got the smack down was the NFL heard it was happening , but had no proof. They went in said we are watching nd if you are doing it you better stop. They didn't which is even worse.

Exactly. The NFL approached them and told them to stop. Saints owner Tom Benson told them to stop. They didn't.

Gregg Williams got waht he deserved, but this unfairly penalizes the St. Louis organization to some degree. I guess there still time to pick a new Defensive Coordinator, but still...

I don't see why. You didn't necessarily have to be in that meeting to know about it. It is entirely possible that Brees never knew about it but another offensive player did, because he was friends with defensive players who felt comfortable telling him, or with coaches, or whatever.

Just based on personality type and his role, I can see players being less willing to divulge all their dirt to the face of the franchise QB than Shockey. Jonathan Vilma was also a U Miami alum. . .

Thw wording of Brees' statement was curious though...I believe he said something along the lines of "I had no real knowledge of the bounty program..."

Real knowledge? As opposed to fake knowledge?

Real knowledge as opposed to circumstantial knowledge, maybe? He may have had ideas without knowing for sure. Or maybe he was drunk when he found out, and so he tried to rationalize it away as not being true later? Lots of potential explanations. . . :lol

This whole episode with Tebow further exemplifies the joke that is the Jets front office and complete organization. In their fervor to look like they're on the Giants level they've once again made themselves look like fools.

Bills keep signing players. Mark Anderson DE from the Patriots.

So the 4-3 will be:

Anderson, Williams, Dareus, Williams. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA the Dolphins, Jets, and Patriots are what's for dinner.

I liked him quite a bit this past season, but $27.5 million, including 8 million guaranteed that's a lot of money for a guy who is a situational pass rusher, and not a 3-down DE.

However, good for him. He played well and got an awesome deal for himself out of it. I'm also glad its someone else paying that type of money for him and not the Pats.

I can't blame Jets , a 4th and a 6th and get. 7th back is not bad deal. Now paying him 6.2 million for him is way to much.

I'm not convinced he ever had a choice. The Broncos' sold the guy out. Really sad considering all the $$$ he raked in for them and is pretty much the top reason that team even got to .500 and ever had a shot at signing Manning at all.

Just low. Sold him down the river for probably $2m difference.

Gosh bro!

You seem to be more a Tebow fan than a Broncos fan. I'm just say. It's like you want Manning to do bad or something. All kinds of things can happen in three years regarding future FA's.
