The 2012 NFL season kicks off Wednesday. What are your predictions for the championship games and the Super Bowl?

Here are mine....

NFC Championship
Philadelphia
San Francisco

AFC Championship
Houston
Baltimore

Super Bowl
San Francisco
Baltimore

Champs
San Francisco
I don't think San Francisco and Baltimore have the QB to get to the Super Bowl. Flacco's career with the Ravens has been successful mainly due to Ray Rice's versatility, and a great defense. And Alex Smith being successful this past season at San Fran was due to a coach coming in and not have him try to be a hero and win games, but instead solidify the fundamentals and play behind a great defense that can keep them in games.

John Harbaugh does a good job of preparing that team for tough opponents, but look at the games they lose- non-play off contenders. Getting run all over by Seattle, getting picked apart by Rivers and not getting even one first down in the first half against Jacksonville. I'm also anxious to see the 49ers repeat last seasons success this season. So many times you see a team do great after struggling so long, and then go back into mediocrity the next season. Also, both of these teams finally face the championship schedule for the first time in recent history. Based off of last season, I'd pick the 49ers to make this Super Bowl over the Ravens making an appearance, if one of the two had to make it.

I hate trying to make predictions before week 1 is even played, but I'll try;

I know, homer pick with the Steelers, but let me explain- These "experts" are putting too much emphasis on Haley and Roethlisberger not mixing. Ben finally has an OC to tell him take what's there and stop looking for the big play. Bruce Arians was not the OC for Pittsburgh. He let Ben be "Ben' too much. You figure, he led one of the worst O lines in history to a SB title, and in XLVI he forced too much instead of attacking the Packer's weakness in the short passing game. That, and starting the 2nd half the Packers could not stop Mendenhall, until that fumble. Had he not fumbled, Pittsburgh wins even after a horrendous 1st half. Even after 2 INTs, one being a pick 6, a missed 50 yd FG and that fumble, they still only lost by 6 points. Just the Packers O didn't make the mistakes.

Had Ben not gotten that high ankle sprain against Cleveland, I could've seen the Steelers winning that game at San Francisco and getting the #1 seed in the AFC, and winning this past Super Bowl. They just had too many injuries going into Denver to play (not one D lineman that finished that game was a starter, and Denver played some inspired football- I give them that), and not having Ryan Clark in the backfield to allow Polamalu to be Polamalu hurt them too. Troy takes big risks and gets away with it because Clark is that good. And yes, that worries me in week 1 this Sunday, too.

Also, Pittsburgh this season has the right mix of youth and experience on their team. The "experts" are also putting too much emphasis on the Mike Wallace hold out, and how that'll affect his playing skills. I think it will too, but when I look at the combination of Antonio Brown and Emmanuel sanders, I see a young Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. Pittsburgh has one of the best receiving corps in the NFL right now.

Their D will be as good this season as it was in '08. Main reason- they finally cut William Gay!!! William Gay made Joe Flacco look like an elite QB! The Raven's play book had to consist of "look for the receiver covered by #22 for an easy TD".

Now I can see Pittsburgh losing a close game this Sunday night, but I can also see them wreaking havoc at Denver to get the bad taste of that play off loss out of their mouth. But overall, I pick the Steelers to go 12-4 or better this season, and hoisting the Lombardi at the end.

Alright, I'm done with my Steelers love for now.

It looks like the NFL darlings this year are Green Bay and Houston.

My predictions are a New England vs. San Francisco Super Bowl.

Matt Schaub can't stay healthy an entire season, so I can't see them being a threat into the play offs. Maybe early, but not late.

@ sprig0701

I like your darkhorse pick of the Bears making it to the Bowl. That team was going to the playoffs last year and would have done damage before the injury to Cutler.

Yes, the Steelers was a homer pick but you gave a reasonable explanation.

But can you explain why you think the Colts will make the playoffs. :wave

Yes- Jacksonville: MJD will be like CJ2K was after his holdout- unproductive. That hurts them. He is to Jacksonville what Ray Rice is to Baltimore- their offense. They don't have even a good QB. So I count them out.

Tennessee: They also lack a good QB. CJ is a good back when they have an offense that can spread the field and give him space, but he's not a tough, north-south between the tackles back. They have a good enough D to keep them in some games, but not win games. So I count them out.

Houston: Schaub. He can not stay healthy. They'll look promising, then a pass rush buries him and he's out with a concussion-again. I love what Arian Foster does down there, and I love what Wade Phillips has done with that D, but it's Schaub. If he wasn't so fragile, Houston would be a major threat. Due to this, I see them losing a close division race with Indy.

Indianapolis: I really like what I see out of Luck. He's really smart, and I see him being better late in the season than he was to begin with. That Colts team really wants to prove last year a fluke, and they have an attitude I've never seen from them. I think it'll be close, and Luck will struggle early, but they make a late push and get a division title.

As much as I would like to pick my team to go all the way I can't with the O-Line as it's currently constructed. Losing Light and Waters could be just too much to overcome.

Neither can Arian Foster

But he at least has some durability. With Bob Sanders not playing (I think?) Schaub is without a doubt, THE most fragile player in the NFL. At least out of players worth a damn.

@Grenouille- my hat off to you for not going for the homer pick, you're bette than me :lol

But I'd actually pick the Pats over the Ravens in a play off match up. Brady only ever loss to the Ravens once, in that '09 play offs loss, when their D couldn't stop Ray Rice if their lives depended on it. What'd Flacco have passing for that entire game, 33 yards?

The Patriot's defense has to be better than they were last season, Belichick is better of a coach than that. If they matched up again this coming post season, the Raven's offense can not match points with the Patriots. Josh McDaniels is a far batter OC than Cam Cameron.

Sprig. The Cardinals? You got some splaning to do.

:lol It sounds weird, but I wanted to pick San Francisco and this little voice kept saying "Arizona". But they finished last season off pretty strong. Bench Kolb and play Skelton, that's their answer.

Yes, I am medicated.

Here are my daughters with Emmanuel Sanders, from an autograph session back in June.

My oldest was so excited, because he touched her back when he leaned in for the picture. She had to tell everyone "and he leaned in and touched my back. A Pittsburgh Steeler touched my back!" :lol My middle one could not stop looking at that helmet. She was so excited a Steeler signed something for her. My little one was just scared and didn't want near him, so my oldest scooped her up and Sanders started laughing and said "yep, you can tell she's the big sister." And he was just a super-nice guy.

When I was a kid in grade school in Altoona, PA- and wasn't into football- there was a Sheetz (thery're a chain of convenience stores/gas stations really popular in PA) 1 block from my school, and Franco Harris' sister worked there. He was always there signing autographs, but I never had any desire to go meet him because I wasn't into sports. I think I can even remember walking into the store and just waving to him. Man am I kicking myself now!!!

^^ Good looking kids sprig.

I had that wide-eyed look as a kid meeting Tony Dunge in the mid-'70s when he was the QB for the Minnesota Gophers. It's what got me interested in football.

Damn you're old.:rotfl

Here's the best part.....

I'm only 7 months older than you........LMAO! :rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

I pull for Atlanta in the NFC and New England in the AFC every year. My backup teams for each side are San Francisco and Baltimore.

You know, I originally had question marks after your name. :lol

You've talked about Atlanta in the past but I've never seen you openly root for them. So I just guessed here.

I openly root for them all the time, but it's usually just in the form of "Go Falcons!" They are the team that I would ultimately cheer for if it was between them and another one of the teams I like. I've always liked New England because of Belicheck and his style and players like Welker, I was a fan of the Niners from back in the Montana days and that faded when he left and then I married into a family of Niners fans so that's why they are my backup NFC team. The rest of my family is from Baltimore and I like Harbough so that's why they get the backup AFC spot. I used to love the Raiders and Seahawks back in the day as well. I tend to pull for players and coaches and end up following them more than the teams. For example, If Belicheck were to leave I'd end up probably liking whatever team he went to next unless my disdain for a player on his team out weighs the love. An example of this is in Chicago. Love Coach Smith but I hate Jay Cutler with a passion.
