Kovalchuk had I believe 62 points and came alive during the second half and the Devils almost got into the playoffs and had a stretch run of like 24-3 in the second half. It's not all Kovy's fault we missed the playoffs, we were without the services of arguably our best player(Parise), had almost an entirely different defensive core(Tallinder, Volchenkov, Fayne) and a new rookie coach who had no idea what was going on. So there's a number of things.
I mean if you want to talk contracts how about paying out 9.8 million on two players each.

We're both wrong (rarely am I wrong on my numbers), he had 60 points and was right about the -26 rating... I always go based on memory. Still very bad numbers for his contract. Having said that, even a 50 goal season with a good +/- his contract looks outlandishly bad, so lets not confuse the situation and I realize how strong the Devils were in 2011, but it was all very good and well for what they accomplished, but they still failed to make the playoffs. Still bad end results if you ask me for a player signed to such a lucrative contract. And please lets not bring in the other players. This is entirely on Kovalchuk and how bad his signing is. So don't try to justify it because you'll find very few who believe it is a good signing.

It's happened and get over his lack of production. Chris Drury is not the first or last to be signed to a ridiculous contract.Or Ilya Kovalchuk's big honking 102 million US deal over 15 years or 17.. forget what it is. How did he respond? Well for starters, the Devils didn't make the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. He responded with 32 goals, 56 points, and a -26 rating. So yeah, boohoo to Chris Drury's contract. It happens!

You're comparing Kovy and his 30+ goal production to Drury and his 1 goal for the season production? Haha you clearly do not watch Devils or Rangers hockey.

How many NHL players have earned 5+million for a season and netted only 1 goal for that year? You won't need "all week" to find the answer to that :lol

WTF are you smoking?

At least it's only a year. I like the addition of Talbot. Good, solid third liner. This crazy off-season of the Flyers can only really be judged a few years from now. We'll see, but, like the masses, I'm a little skeptical.

Good Bye Max and Rupp

Max, w/o you the Pens never win that stanley cup

good luck

Derek Meech to Winnipeg? Nice impact Winnipeg, granted I am friends with Derek's brother.

HOLY CRAP! Jagr and Talbot to Philadelphia. Ugh, more reason to despise Jagr. My sources suck! So much for Jags second coming to Pittsburgh. Never liked the piss ant anyway.

I really liked Rupp on the team, but tough to match that much dough for a 4th liner at best. Same goes for Talbot 1.8 million for a 3rd liner at best is a bit of a stretch especially for 5 years. He's good on the PK and will contribute here and there.

Jagr disappointed me I'll be honest. For nostalgia purposes I was really hoping he'd sign with the pens for 1 last run for the cup. He chose greed over winning (sorry I see the flyers imploding this year)

On to the flyers - WTF is your GM doing. You let Leino walk, who appears to have a decent amount of talent and should only get better. Instead you give 3.3 mil to Jagr??? You traded your captain and a solid 30 + goal scorer. I understand the need to trade a big impact player, and go in a new direction, but you pretty much gutted your entire team. Homer is either going to look like a genius or will be fired 2 seasons from now when this turns out to be a disaster. You better hope Schenn and your new first rounder light it up and quick!

You're funny. It is still comparables because of how mediocre the years of each player were given the extent and cost of their contracts. Now take off those rose coloured goggles because clearly being a Devils fan has rendered you blind.

I am in the strong belief that all professional athletes are over paid. Some are more than others. Point is a 60 point and -26 season is not befitting of a 100 million dollar player. Seriously, some people's heads are too far up their collective fill-in-the-blank to know what's right from wrong.

Dale Tallon is signing people left and right. It's like he's playing GM Mode in NHL '11.

My above post edited for truth and accuracy.

As for Teemu Selanne, he will resign based on how close he feels Anaheim's chances are of winning the Cup this year. I have a sense it can go either way. Not confident he retires or resigns. It's 50/50 and that is not entirely accurate. Only Anaheim and Selanne know the balance there.
