We're hearing lots of good things about Caron in Montreal as he used to play for the Q. In fact, some wondered why he wasn't selected by Montreal as the Habs are very short in size up front. Caron seems to have all the right ingredients and is coming in as advertized for a first rounder. Should Savard return, Caron will probably head back to the AHL, perhaps sooner if his production on the ice cools. However, it appears quite possible this youngster will crack the line up full time by next year. I have to hand it to the Boston brass. They are doing an excellent job putting together a solid product on the ice.
While I realize Eli has likely been following the exploits of Caron since he first laced his skates at the age of 3, for most NHL fans, Caron is still considered an unproven rookie with lots of promise. However, if this guy continues to evolve, Boston could quickly become very fierce up front and the envy of the league.
On the short, I hope the NHL pays more attention to the Q in the next draft.
There's great talent there.
lol Wha?! No, I am just a prospects junkie. I follow the junior leagues closely. I just signed 5'11", 195 lb Ryan Howse, a former 2009 third round pick of Calgary's. He's tearing up the Dub (WHL) with 14 goals in 9 games. Dobber, a THN columnist, who runs his own hockey pool guide and site believes he has 35+ goal potential once he reaches the NHL. What's more, it's one of the most difficult leagues to score in so it's saying a lot to see those kind of numbers out of anyone. So for that, I am very excited by his early exploits. I dropped Evgeny Grachev for him, a former OHL Rookie of the Year who seems to be lost without former linemates Cody Hodgson and Matt Duchene.
Speaking of prospects and Cody Hodgson, I been following the Canucks faithfully for the past half a dozen or so seasons since they are the parent club to the Manitoba Moose. As a season ticket holder with the Moose I see a lot of Vancouver's star talent of tomorrow, today... yesteryear it was your Burrows, Keslers, and Edlers. Now it's your Hodgsons and Schroeders.
Cody Hodgson has played with zero passion and zero interest. He's been very invisible in the games I seen him play. It sucks since I was so pumped about this kid that I became a proud owner of his first ever pro jersey. It's his entire home playoff set from the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs with the Moose. Back injury or not he is playing very safe. Too safe, and he just doesn't work to get the puck. Does not look like an NHL player this season. Heck, he hasn't looked like an AHLer. Hopefully this changes. He needs to grow a set of balls and take risks or else he'll never be the player he was once billed to become. To be successful, you need to take risks. Playing pro sports is all about taking risks. Potential concussion and/or bad back or not. That's part of the game, and sadly it's become a BIG part of the game in the last few seasons.
Moving along.... Eddie Lack is probably one of the best goalie prospects to come along in the Vancouver camp, and yes, that's with Cory Schneider in the pipeline. No dis to Schneids. The difference from Lack and Schneider is the fact you see Lack's potential right away. His transition to this level is near flawless. Almost as if he's been doing this for a long time here. He doesn't make you or the team panic when he's in goal. Cory took half a season to adjust, where as Lack looked phenomenal in his first game, and looked like a seasoned pro. He looks like an NHL goalie on our team. He has a tremendous wingspan because of his huge stature. Due to that bigger size he challenges the opposition with the puck and seems very fearless when he has the puck in position on his stick. Very good stickhandler. Good lateral movement and positioning, and moves well for a bigger man. The lone goal he let in on Friday night, wasn't entirely his fault. He had most of it, but it trickled through his pads and I would say that was mostly the defenses fault for not clearing the puck out of the crease. What can I say? After only one game, I like the Lack. I am a fan!
