The Pittsburgh Penguins received forward James Neal and defenseman Matt Niskanen from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Alex Goligoski! WOOHOO!

Finally, a developing top end talent that is actual top-six material. Something we haven't had since the Jaromir Jagr days. I am both thrilled and excited!

This team just got a whole lot better! We not only got Neal, but a credible former 30+ point rookie defenseman in Niskanen back who has a good overall game. Just needed a new lease on his career. I think this will rejuvenate an otherwise stunted growth and development over the past two years. Both are still locked under very nice contracts. Neal is signed on for $2.875 million for this season and next, and Niskanen is under 2 million per season. Love it!

The Penguins may have some new life and a chance in the post season if Sid the Kid can make a miraculous return this season, and if not, the following years are going to look mighty interesting for us! In Ray Shero we Trust! Thank you Mr. Shero!!! :clap

When's Crosby coming back? any word yet? i haven't been paying attention.

Just edited the above post.

As for your question...

S. Crosby (C) - Concussion

19 - 19 - No time line set - Concussion from blindside shot to head during Winter Classic (Loss 1-3) and/or boarding hit in 1/5 vs Lightning (Win 8-1). Experiencing headaches, nausea and neck stiffness. Per Bylsma 1/12 "He’s getting tested this week again. He’s getting better. We’re not going to progress forward until the symptoms subside." 1/13 - DB said that he will not provide daily updates on Crosby. He will update the media when there is something to say. 1/16 - Crosby still experiencing symptoms and has not begun physical activity yet. 1/18 - Crosby Talks about progress - says he is definitely getting better. Symptoms are now on and off - mostly headaches. Some days are better than others. Still not exerting himself on or off the ice. 1/21 - HCDB says Crosby is progressing but not symptom free still. 1/23 - TSN reports Crosby feeling much better, ready to slowly resume physical activity in next few days. 1/24 - Crosby speaks to media. Says headaches come and go, but last 4-5 days have been better and less intense. 1/28 - Began working out for first time. 1/31 - Crosby still doing very light work outs. No target return date. 2/3 - Crosby to visit his parents. Continuing light exercise and rehab. 2/7 - Still back home in Canada. Reports coming out saying that he is at least 10 days from returning to exercise and is expected out until at least March. 2/10 - Crosby says he's improving, just more slowly than he'd hope. Says he fully expects to play this season barring any major setbacks. Still no time table.

PREVIOUS INJURY: Sore groin during first few weeks of October, missed no games. Left 11/21 practice early 'mostly as preventative measure' with sore groin. Sid said he was not worried about it. Missed no games.

Shero really just robbed Dallas. Neal on Crosby's wing is going to be a pain in the ass to defend if/when Crosby returns.

It's just shocking to me that Goligoski who I think is a second tier PMD went for that price.

The prices this deadline are all over the place. Seems like Brewer went for nothing, yet other guys are going for top dollar X 2

Easy. Brewer is an older stay-at-home dman with no marketing value.

He went cheap because he is a player of yesterday, best years are behind him, and he doesn't put any extra butts in the seats. GoGo went for a lot because he's a young, ever developing dman with an upside of around 50-60 points. That is marketable. Also, it's a need in Dallas (a dman that can anchor the PP) and why Nieuwendyk overpaid. GoGo is also signed to a nice contract as well and this trade allows Dallas to resign Brad Richards.

Yeesh... All these crazy rumors.
Now there's some buzz about Cammalleri being traded for someone taller than 5'2".
There's also talk about adding another geriatric defenceman, Rivet.
Apparently, with Spacek down, the average age of the Habs went down to 12.

Habs beat Vancouver twice this year, yet they lose twice to the Oilers. Sheesh.

P.S. I think a Toronto Philly playoff series might be interesting.
It's starting to look possible.

I think there's a better shot of Johnny Bower coming out of retirement than the Leafs making the playoffs. The rest of their schedule should ensure another early golf season for them.

Hey Eli, is Asham still in your lineup?

Sorry bro, haven't been on the forums in a while. No, Arron Asham is out with a concussion. We are without 9 forwards... We have been hit hard.

Anyway, I noticed your golden boy Nikolay Zherdev got waived. Wonder who claims him... LA? Would like to see Pittsburgh claim him. Low risk, high reward player in the right situation.

No prob bro, I can't believe I missed that. :slap

I know what a bummer. For someone who didn't play very much I though he did pretty good on racking up a nice chunk of points. He wouldn't have to go very far if Pitt picked him up.

Pens should grab him, need some more offence, tough OT loss to the Sharks tonight

^^^

I didn't know that he spent that much time in Pitt before.

Talks of Leighton heading to San Jose? Neimi and Leighton back to back would be a force to be reckoned with.
