There has to be a bunch of rich guys out there that love hockey enough to band together and form a rival league. WHA V.2 here we come.:lol

I doubt it. Hockey sucks on tv and these days thats all that matters.

If football and baseball players are movie stars, hockey players are dinner theater actors.

No one knows who they are, or cares.

Actually contrary to popular belief hockey has been doing great in some major US cities. Pittsburgh as an example sees fantastic TV ratings. The best in the NHL, and this includes major Canadian cities that have NHL teams. Crazier yet, this is locally! Build a sensational young Cup contending team and they will flock. Pre-Crosby era and years after their Cup victories in 91 and 92, fan reception was meh in the Burgh. Winning teams in decent to strong US hockey markets = great TV ratings. Of course, it can always be a lot better and is no where near in the same league of an NFL nor will it ever be. Never like saying never.... Maybe, but doubtful. Highly doubtful.

In parts of Europe and pretty much any populated portion of Canada (had to say that as most of the country is barren (lol)), hockey viewership on TV is strong. Very strong.

The NHL has brought in 3.3 billion in revenue last season. Which is a growth from 2.2 billion from years ago. Point is, the NHL brand is growing, but this strike is not helping that growth. If anything it may destroy whatever momentum the league had going for itself.

Taken from the BOG meetings...

Here’s a story illustrating the self-interested, tyrannical leadership at play on the NHL’s side:

Winnipeg Jets representation at a recent NHL Board of Governors meeting piped up to say it was opposed to engaging in a long, bloody lockout sure to stymie their franchise’s momentum and hurt the game of hockey.

It wasn’t Winnipeg owner Mark Chipman, but rather one of the alternate governors representing the Jets.

Bruins Principal Owner and Chairman of the Board of Governors Jeremy Jacobs answered by reprimanding the Winnipeg representative as one of the “new kids on the block” and informed him that he would know when he was allowed to speak in the NHL board room.

**** like this makes it frustrating being a hockey fan.

What's worse about the chairman of the board, Mr. Jeremy Jacob, is his contradicting nature. Lets put a cap on these crazy long term deals at 5 years, despite the fact he recently signed 4 of his own players to 6-plus year deals prior to the expiration of the recent CBA. What a gong show.

The problem with this is you can't have 10-20 of these concurrently. :lol I obviously saw this early with the Avs in the late 90s.

A handful of successful teams doesn't make for a successful league, and without knowing very much about the Pens, weren't they practically bankrupt previously and they have some of the most expensive players so they probably aren't making a lot money doing it.

I used to appreciate hockey from 93-99 when I went to a lot of Sharks and then Avalanche games, but prices doubled in like 2 years and I stopped going. Then I tried to watch all those regular season games I used to attend on TV and I couldn't do it anymore. Once the last lockout happened I gave up even watching playoff hockey on TV. I'm sure now that I have a huge plasma it would be more enjoyable, I don't know.

There's nothing that I can add to this whole BS situation that hasn't been said a hundred times already. The only positive that I see is that maybe the fair weather fans will go away and I can score Blackhawks tickets without having to sell blood.

As far as games not being good on TV - Sure nothing beats being at a live Hockey game, but I still love coming home from work knowing that the 'Hawks are playing.

At least I still have my Son's games and The Rockford Icehogs (AHL - Blackhawks farm team) to help fill the void.

I loved the North Stars/Blackhawks rivalry in the '80s. :monkey2

Don't have to explain to me what AHL team is affiliated to which team. lol I know all that stuff.

What a loaded team this year in Rockford. The advantages to being an AHL season ticket holder during an NHL lockout year. I have been there before. 2004/05 with the Manitoba Moose. Getting to see guys like Nathan Horton, Stephen Weiss, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal, and Jay Bouwmeester!

What a team! Chicago has great depth! That doesn't even include their bigger NHL guys in Toews, P. Kane, Sharp, Stalberg, and Keith!

Wow, you were a fan longer than me. I got in around 1989-1990. When the big sports card craze happened. Every kid was collecting them. This was when every kid and their mom was collecting and rookies were going for tons. If it wasn't for card collecting, I probably wouldn't have played hockey and now become such a knowledgable fan who has season tickets. It's funny, because most get in because their parents signed them up for hockey first. Nope! Not me, it was the hockey card craze. My introduction into collecting. lol So it introduced me to two things. My obsession for collecting and hockey.

The IceHogs play 10 minutes from us and my son plays on the jr IceHogs and they practice together sometimes. I've met just about all of them over the last couple years. I was at hog's game last year and was bs-ing with Brandon Bollig the day before he moved up to the Blackhawks to replace John Scott.

That is too cool. Got any pics to share?

Go to as many AHL games. Best value for the dollar. I miss having the AHL here. We could have been watching hockey right now. Damn NHL! So much cheaper than watching the Jets too. lol
