Super Freak
Not always...
Well c'mon, you can't fault RoboBandAid Boy. He looked very promising the year he signed that contract. He looked like he was evolving into a very capable top netminder in the NHL. Unfortunately injuries have taken a toll on his career. It's no slight on the man's talent or skillset. He just has not been fortunate when it comes to health. And it was a very shortsighted signing that no one player deserved to be signed to. Not even Sidney.
Chalk it up to both bad luck and mediocre GMing. From Mike Milbury to Garth Snow, c'mon? Gotta love the Wang Show! Very bad GM'ing there folks. You go from Mike to a guy who was basically a sub-par backup that same season.... What do you expect?
Being injured also means being on the shelf, also means lost development. So he'll never be the goalie was once billed to become. I don't think it's a good example. Daniel Blackburn could be thrown into the same pile as Rick DiPietro. Super talented goalies with huge potential, wasted by career deprecating or ending injuries.
