Blame the NHL for assigning one their worst officials (Don VanMassenhoven) to ref this game. They knew it was going to be chippy as hell and didn't take long for things to head south. The crew lost control of the game and never took it back. Falling for the Canucks diving ways didn't help. I felt the game really swung after Seguin's "tripping" call. That was followed by Krejci's "goalie interference" and led ultimately to the Marchand incident.

The post-game stuff where the Canucks players, coach, and GM continue to whine just further hammers home how loathsome the franchise has become. Congrats to them on winning game 8.

Amazing pic, saved :lol:lol:lol

explain to me how a guy can get jumped 6 on 1 along with being hit form players on the bench yet the receiver's team ends up 5 on 3 shorthanded.....gotta love NHL referees
That's why i made my comment earlier about too many WTF reffing moments lately. There was a few WTF moments in the redwings/blackhawks game last night too.

If you are saying Lindros came back too quick then, i think that absolutely means jack ____ for this particular player.

Concussions run in the Lindros family, almost hereditary. Some guys in the league like Roenick could have 9-10 concussions and continue on with hardly any post concussion symtoms.

I think this is more of a coincidence matter that both brothers garnered major concussion/head injuries than it being hereditary. I mean, really?! Two family members? And you write it off as being hereditary? I could see if you can give me an example of more than two players. They both played physical games. They were drafted as offensive players with a big physical game. You play with a chip on your shoulder like Eric did, you're bound to get tapped. No, I chalk it up to a sad coincidence, and nothing else. I mean the way Scott Stevens drilled Eric Lindros, anyone would have gotten the sharp end of that stick.

Eric is a bad example, because unlike Sidney Crosby, he changed his game up to still coexist in the NHL, yet stay far away from the areas that would most likely expose him to hits that would end him once and for all. Staying outside on the perimeter. Giving up the puck more, not holding onto it as long. Not driving his big body to the net as often, and playing in the dirty areas, a few-to-several feet from the net, where many goal scorers get their goals.

Crosby is too stubborn and proud to dumb down his game. He builds his game around with his great puck possession and protection skills, using his back to his opponents and his legs to shield the puck from them. It's effective and it works, but makes him vulnerable from hits from behind. Just having the puck in his possession for lengthy periods makes him target No. 1 for the best hitters in the game, and there is nobody who has better puck possession/protection skills than Crosby. Closest that comes to mind, is the dangler Pavel Datsyuk. Sid also plays with malice and intent. He elbows guys who get too close to him. He stands up for himself and fights and has little protection in the way of his own teammates stepping in. He'll crash the net. He plays like he's never had a concussion and that is dangerous and that will end him. He has to dumb down his game or call it in. Or take a good chunk of time off. Half a season or a year may not be enough. Heck, it maybe too late.

FYI, Scott Stevens added to a lot of players downfalls, early retirements.

I don't know how effective his game would be under Brendan Shanahan's rule. lol

Some would say he was a clean hitter. I would dispute that at times.

Winnipeg Jets fans (including myself) know all too well about mediocre reffing in the NHL. They should review bad calls like they review goals. Unfortunately they can't, because it would slow down the game. So it's a catch 22 there. Just have to suffer through it. Every team has bad calls made against them. It's nothing personal I find. If it was, then sure we could complain. But what's the use? It won't change the fact that there are some brutal calls that get made.

I couldn't tell you how many times poor Dustin Byfuglien gets the sharp end of that stick. Yeah he is a big tank of a boy and has some history of roughing up guys, but man, the amount of calls he gets called on him when he's done absolutely nothing is insane. A guy won't be looking and accidentally collide with him. Dust being the big hefty boy that he is, takes a lot to put him down, so the other guy usually goes down. Ref sees the tail end of it, looks at the name of Dust's back and assumes he did something illegal to the player. As a Pens fan, I can admit that he was wrongfully accused, not once, but twice of removing the net from the Pens moorings. Was he in the proximity of the net? Yes, but did he touch it? Heck no. On both occasions it was a Penguin who knocked it off. But like usual, Dustin is sent to the box.

So I say, why complain about something which has been evidently bad since the beginning of time? Ever heard of the "Three blind mice" nursery rhyme used on hockey officials... well, that's why, and that lil' nursery rhyme has been in the game since I can remember. Get over it and accept it. It sucks, but it is what it is. Sometimes it's a refs' game.

Yup, really a combination of running in the family and careless play such as admiring the puck/head down which happend more with Eric then Brett are the main reasons.

I think genetics certainly plays a role in both cases for the Lindros brothers and Crosby, thats just what i and others think..yes i know how common concussions are in sports as a whole though.

I don't know if it's hereditary or if anyone in those circumstances would have had the same end result. Granted each person's scull and brain come in different sizes. The differences between the space between the brain and the inside of the scull could play a factor as well. Concussions as we know come from the brain bouncing off the walls of the inner scull. And yes, Lindros was notorious for keeping his head down and admiring his own plays. Guy was cocky and knew he was good. He was a beast and arguably the best player in the game for a brief moment in the 90's. That all changed after that hit, and the hits and the lingering concussed effects that followed shortly there after.

When Shawn Thornton is scoring goals on penalty shots you know the season is going well.

Nice to get a win after the debacle Saturday. The Jets have played the Bruins tough so far this year. They'd be a dangerous first round opponent.

-Pens lose to Sens 5-1 and my favorite fantasy team is hurting big-time!

+Both my NHL Pens and my GFHL (fantasy league) Pens had a scare when it was reported that James Neal would be out up to 4 weeks with a broken foot. It was found out later that he just had a bruised foot and was able to play in last night's contest and logged over 16 minutes! :yess:

Monster for 2nd shutout in 3 games :yess:

Yup, keep playing the viking and leave the church boy on the bench to read his bible and pray he could play another game.

Reimer may be the favorite here in Toronto but, i was all for Jonas since day one. Reimer was never considered the future goalie for the Leafs, Scrivees was considered that. XD

Ideally though, we want to have two solid goalies firing for us as we move forward into this half of the season.I say play Monster again against the Sabres and then let Sherminator be tested against the Rangers.

I'd say the Pens are tits up now for the rest of the season, no playoffs this year. :p

Maybe. Maybe not. Look what they did last season with less players.

But have fun assuming the worst. :)

The Pens have as much chance of missing the playoffs as the Leafs have of making it.

Yup, no doubt about that though the Leafs are better then the Pens this season so, i hope they continue their good play and reach their full potential to beat top teams like Boston especially, Rangers we have no trouble beating.

2/3 of the Gordie Howe....this team is lethal right now..leads the league in goals and goals against

Agreed, although I'll support whatever goalie gets the wins. Jonas is playing the best hockey in his career right now and should deserve to be our primary starter- Leafs will head back into another slump if Wilson starts putting Reimer out there every game hoping for a win.

Let me say it now, any future game that Reimer starts to rest Monster- we will lose.

bold statement..probably an accurate statement but still a bold one

I'm a bold guy when it comes down to Leafs hockey :lol We have the potential to be a playoff team but goalie inconsistencies can really hurt a team. Just look at Phili's problems with Bryzgalov.
