Re: 2013 NHL Season

I love it when the Leafs win a game.

It's like the whole city of Toronto has won the Cup already. When they lose, however, it's back to suicide watch. I've never seen such a bi-polar fan base. :lecture:lol:lol:lol

:lol I've given up on Boston radio lately and have turned to TSN Toronto. What you say is so true. One day they're ready to start building a Kadri statue outside the ACC and the next everyone needs to go.

Then there's Montreal's TSN radio which can be pretty funny too. Their obsession with the how evil the Bruins are and how they're ruining hockey provides many laughs during the work day.

Apparently you haven't been paying attention to the LA Lakers or Boston Red Sox fan base. :lol

Go over to the NBA Thread and check out the Lakers slurpers. :wave

These are Leaf fans though, not hockey fans..these are the rich bandwagon fair weather fans that don't know any of the players or player stats on the team...i ignore that crap.

We see this **** going on with the Jays right now with the big trades over the off season, now so many young women are huge Jays fans all of a sudden faahh yea sure..its just the way baseball is being marketed now here, all these almost hipster-ish looking kids are all of a sudden wearing Jays apparel.

Re: 2013 NHL Season

Fleury pulled again tonight, thats at least the 3rd time this season, man o man trade this **** bag we need the money for Malkin

Edit, only goalie worse than Fleury is Bryz, the Pens have come back and tied teh game at 4-4

It is classic TO media. :lol
I don't see how any athlete can perform at their best in a climate with that looking over everything you do. It isn't "just sports news" with TSN/Sportsnet it's TMZSports.

Lakers deserve it.
I'm a diehard Boston sports fan...so I take a certain amount of pride when the Sox don't live up their full potential and am complete BAT **** Crazy when they do. :lol

These words are soooooo true. And largely the reason why I abandoned my home market decades ago. 93-94 were the glory years. Has never been the same since.

Yup. Especially when someone uses sports radio as a reference for a fan base. Everyone knows that sports radio, in ever market, is the absolute worst of the worst.

If by someone you meant me.... I wasn't referring to radio, although I do agree with you that media skews everything. My reference comes from a lifelong observation.

I bought into it as a kid, however, currently am nauseated by Toronto sports media. Not only that but when a grass roots fan attends a Leafs game they quickly see how corporate the team is.

Last game I was at felt like a business meeting.

Actually, I was referring to Grenouille, who brought up the radio.

In this day and age, sports radio is a wasteland. You might find some good satellite station or podcast, I've never tried. I grew up on WFAN in NY, which in the past number of years I lived there, deteriorated into a sad shell of commentary. Mike Francesca, probably the face of that station, is one of the biggest blowhards in sports media.

I don't pay much attention to Toronto's media. I've been a Leafs fan since the early 90's, but have never even lived in the same country.

Toronto has a large fan base - it's like the Yankees, just minus the success. But with a large fan base comes a large number of ****** bags, corporate "this ticket / suite came as part of my settlement" groups, etc. Is a large portion of both franchises awful? Absolutely. But it doesn't mean the other portion has or wants anything to do with them.

By the way, I hate the Yankees, so being forced to defend their fan base in any way is tough.

Also, I don't know if people in the Toronto area are spoiled by hockey, or what. I have been to literally hundreds of Rangers and Islanders games, and three Leafs games. The Leafs games were pure insanity by comparison, when it comes to crowd levels.

(I know the Islanders crowds are a terrible comparison to almost any sporting event, that's why I also had to include the numerous games at MSG.)

Re: 2013 NHL Season

Embarrassing Flyers game today against the Bruins... It's just so frustrating to watch.

Re: 2013 NHL Season

That could have worked too... absolutely no one is clicking on the team. Bryz made some amazing saves but the D is just pathetic.

If the Blues are interested in dealing Shattenkirk then the Flyers should start listening.

Re: 2013 NHL Season

Woooohoo!..tied it up and now lets win it.

Reimer woke up in the 3rd with some big saves, Crosby and Malkin got sent.

Re: 2013 NHL Season

Leafs-Pens... what a thriller! Crosby just got destroyed! Malkin got flattened by JVR too! :lol

Re: 2013 NHL Season

Ahhh faahhhhh!..ahh well, was a great 2nd and 3rd..really didn't think Bozak was a good choice for the SO, should have went Frattin,Kadri with JVR or Grabo or Kessel.

Re: 2013 NHL Season

Missed the game, but what 4 goals on 21 shots by the Leafs?

Were they quality goals or once more 4pergame Fleury shows up?

I thought Fleury had a decent game... Geno got flattened by JVR and didn't play for the rest of the game in the 3rd or OT. He didn't even shoot in the S/O. Hopefully he isn't injured!
