I agree with that. DAMN I wish there was a none of the above option. Even if that didn't prevent one of these guys winning, I just want my disapproval to register somewhere.

Vote third party. That's what I will likely do.

Not to mention the fact that the debates are planned. Let some people in there with questions that are not filtered. Then we'll see where true intestinal fortitude is.

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that with Bush vs. Kerry they actually tried that.

Very rarely do politicians agree to answer questions without knowing what they are ahead of time.

In 2005 the tax revenue was up $100,000,000,000 because of the tax cuts he wants to repeal.

Not exactly. This canard would have us cut taxes to zero to have infinite revenue.

He's going to penalize corporations making more of them move overseas. We already have the worlds second highest corporate tax rate as it is.

Which almost no company pays through a series of loopholes, exemptions and subsidies. Around two-thirds of US business pay no taxes whatsoever, according to the GAO. Maybe you know something they don't.

He will penalize domestic oil companies, financially damaging them and therefore strengthening foreign oil companies making us more dependent on foreign oil.

I must have imagined those record profits.

He refuses to allow off shore drilling despite the fact that more supply will scare away the speculators that drove the price to begin with.

It's not a simple issue. The intangible costs of offshore drilling are unlikely to justify the limited benefit. You want an immediate solution? Ban oil speculation.

He wants to increase the size of government.

Bush has created the largest government in US history.

Simply put he thinks government control can solve all of our problems.

Last night he said point blank the government cannot solve all of our problems and we should not pretend it does.

Exactly...because they don't speak from the heart. If they would be required to answer questions from the hip at debates, the debates would mean a lot more. Now the are just regurgitation the same politspeak that goes on at every other appearance they make.

This year will be my first vote as I have not yet seen a candidate that deserves my precious vote. But I have identified one this year. Why?

I'm just curious to see how we can possibly make an intelligent decision if we can't look at their track records.

Meh you are probably right. I would take a good Lincoln/Douglas style debate anyday over what we are likely to get.

Wow! A political discussion CAN happen without the hate! Thank you everyone! I gotta go to a job inerview. I'll be back!

Prove that Obama is change. And don't go by his words. They have already proven to be as untrustworthy as McCain's. And don't go by his voting record. That is a false measuring stick. It takes more than a Senator's vote for a President to make a real change. The only real change that Obama represents is what animal represents the Presidential administration. And that is nothing but partisan politics, an attitude that simple common sense and factual history shows us to be a terrible reason for choosing.

I want to know what it is about his character that shows he has the intestinal fortitude to stand in the battle and make congress lay down the politics-as-usual to actually represent this nation.

He and Hillary can't even work together except to make a false showing of party unity. How do you expect a candidate who is shown to not have any true support in his own party to bring both parties together in any semblance of cooperation in the name of the People. For that matter, what little support he has is coming from people like the Kennedy's. And we all know their background. Support from the Kennedy's should be enough to make good people turn away from a candidiate. And Barak (like McCain, other than the Kennedy support) has given us a lot more reason than that.

Spreading the word that either of these candidates is a good choice for President is a harm to our Nation. The true change that needs to be done is a change in the way business is conducted in Washington D. C. And Barak Obama and John McCain are both too far entrenched in the business-as-usual to strongly represent this Nation.

So reading all of your posts about how the 2 canidates are not good enough to be president and how we need to wake up to pick the one unbiased person for president i need to know one thing.......Who is this person you speak of?

You see i'm voting in THIS election so if you could enlighten me to this mystery man of yours who is going to truely make a difference in Washington then i'm all ears (or eyes since i'm reading this.) Obama reminds me of Kennedy, both were great speakers and the Republicans thought he was too young and inexperienced as well. Kennedy inpsired hope as well and it lead to alot of changes, so guess hope is not such a bad thing is it.:D

Also, Obama's promised tax cut.....give me a break. Sure, cut takes on me and get me $10 a month more in my pocket right? Oh, wait.....he wants to tax the businesses right? Great, gee, I wonder if they will pass those higher taxes on to us with higher prices to cover those taxes? Um, of course they will.

Ah, but you can choose whether to buy from the businesses that raise their prices. You can't choose not to pay your taxes.

He did set out broad outlines for some plans for how he hopes to effect change and with a Democratic congress much of that may be possible.

I got time for this one before I go.

I'm just curious to see how we can possibly make an intelligent decision if we can't look at their track records.

It starts with a change in mindset. We have to stop basing our choices on topical issues like abortion and the war in Iraq. We have to base our choice on who will go the farthest to uniting the country, including the government.

I agree. It's refreshing that we can have a civil disagreement.

Good luck!

Thanks! I will need it. It is a very competitive position.

I am writing in Colin Powell. And when I get back, I will elaborate on the reasons.

I'd just like to propose a toast to everyone in this thread for the mature and intellectual discussion that's taking place. The willingness to listen and express opinions sans the pontificating and chest puffing is refreshing.

I totally agree... It's great to see political conversation without all that.

As an outsider (read Canadian) who of course does have an interest in who my friendly neighbours to the south elect I have to say that I watched every second of Obama's speech and I thought he hit all of the points that he had to in the manner (with confidence and strength) that he had to. I'm actually looking forward to the debates...
