Except that Sideshow charges 1/2 as much.... :monkey3
He's not talking about Medicom and Hot Toys.

His point is that SSC's prototype to finished production pieces have a worse quality loss on paint apps than other competitors in the same price range, or even lower.

I wanna see these other companies paint jobs... Someone please post them.

I don't know... I was looking at my figures today and I think Luke has the best paint job so far, at least mine does. Han is far too pasty when placed next to Luke. Luke has a lot of skin tone highlights that seem to have been dropped right after his release. Being the first figure, obviously they went all out. I'm surprised that attention to detail in the face paint was dropped so quickly. I guess Luke was a loss leader.

Which competitors have sixth scale Star Wars figures in the same price range?

Also, keep in mind that we're talking about RELATIVE ratios here in the loss of quality between prototypes and finished production pieces.

In other words, Hasbro's stuff sucks... but at least their prototypes usually look exactly like the finished production pieces. THAT is where SSC is failing. Either kick it up several notches in production and QA at the factory or start painting your damn prototypes in a way that will realistically represent the finished product.

Pretty simple.

I think the SS sculpt is excellent. In these new photos it happens to be buried under a mass production paint application. As with other figures, I will seek to liberate the sculpt through repainting. And I won't be surprised if the figure I receive from Sideshow looks better out of the box than in these latest photos.

I've just realized that when one artist sits down to paint one figure for one owner, it's a different situation than when one artisan sits down to paint 500 sets of eyebrows so he can have a bed to sleep in tonight. But this board is for the appreciation of artistic products, not a meditation on the global economy and the working conditions in Asia.

Thank you. Medicom is Sideshow's only competitors for SW. I would dare say that SS is also under alot more scrutiny because other toy companies don't have licences like SW.

I know I'm quoting myself here, but seriously, has anyone looked at their Luke and compared it to their Han and Anakin. Do you still think Luke has poor paint apps? To me, he looks much more life-like then the other two. I wish SS would get back to that style paint work.

I guess Obi will be the deciding factor...

Oh, so because SSC is the only producer of $50-60 1/6 SW figures in the market that means it's okay that they continually present prototypes that are not truly representative of what they can actually produce in production?

You guys are side-stepping THE POINT with semantics.

And, Wor-Gar, I agree... Luke's paint apps are terrific. Better than the prototype, in fact. Unfortunately, it's been all downhill from there so far with the human character paint apps.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy too. :D

Nice attempt at spin control but you know it's true because you get riled up all the time. If you really consider a comment I made towards you on the internet an "attack" then you're the one who really needs to grow up. If your skin is this thin online, I'd hate to see how you are in real life.

Secondly, I don't recall you calling me a troll when I was praising Bespin Han...or Sith Anakin...or Jedi Luke. Funny how your opinion of me happens to suit whatever comments I'm making towards SS.

Also you calling other peoples posts "broken records" is the best laugh I've had all day. If anyone here is the broken record it is most certainly you. Every single one of your posts is either "I like it" I love it" or "it's great".

I enjoy reading the views posted here because everyone has a true opinion that is honest and can swing both ways. Your posts I don't enjoy so much.
It's either "SS can do no wrong" or "GO AWAY YOU ****** TROLL! WE DON'T NEED YOU HERE BECAUSE I, JOSH OF THE 16,000 POSTS DECREES IT!".
Like the comment I made that got you so ****** mad, to not posts your critical opinions on something is ridiculous. If Ford makes a lemon and everyone that buys it doesn't voice their opinion on it because it isn't a positive one, there would be a lot of people still out there buying junkers because they didn't know any better. Not to mention they wouldn't fix the problems on the cars because nobody seemed to mind them.

You really do need to step away from the computer sometimes and not get so worked up over people's opinions of toys. I appreciate the varied opinions of everyone and certainly do not get upset as you do when it differs from mine.

Maybe you should start a site called "NothingbutpositivepostsaboutSS.com"
and live in a world of perfect happiness where everyone shares the same opinon...

Whatever man. I don't care what you think of me. I really don't.

I have met him in real life, and can confirm that his skin is soft and supple and quite pleasing to the touch.

:love

Seriously, I know how easy it is for online comments to get misconstrued or blown out of proportion or taken the wrong way (or the right way, but to an unhealthy extreme). But I got to meet Josh at SDCC and I think he's a great guy.

If we're going to attack somebody, let's attack the gal who painted Obi-Wan!!!

Josh is cool. he is just expressing his opinion much like everyone else.

:peace to all SW fans.

Seriously thanks! I appreciate it. I will say that I too enjoyed meeting you and being able to chat with you. You're a class act!!

I've been butting heads with Josh on this Obi-Wan issue, but I'll jump on the love wagon... he's a cool dude in my book.

Irish I appreciate that. You're top notch in my book. Just because we don't see eye 2 eye doesn't mean we can't be friends.

The only points I am trying to make are: a) Proto paint apps will never measure up to prod. It will never happen. I understand the reasoning behind this. I accept it. I also don't think what we have seen in production paint apps is as horrible as some of you want everyone to acknowledge. b) When you are judging Obi-Wan at this point, you are only judging the photo - which is a bad photo to begin with.

I am not arguing semantics. What it all boils down to is this: Some of us have higher expectations then we should. Those of us who are grounded in reality are happier and content with what is presented or are waiting to base our opinions on what lies before our own eyes.
