I seriously doubt SS releases production photos, scrolls through hundreds of negative posts and then says, "Jlcmsu just posted that he's cool with the paint apps boys, no need to issue a recall."

You apparently missed my point. What I was stressing was that to mock or put down any negative sounding post is just as unhelpful as the types of posts found on the other end of the spectrum. That's referred to as hipocracy.

Here's my exact words again:

By the way, if there are "100 negative posts" about a product, then that should be a red flag that something is certainly not right with that same product.

I made this joke in another tread, but for some scary reason I see it coming true if this keeps up.

Due to the overall dissatisfaction with the soon to be shipped Obi-Wan Kenobi 12 inch figure, we regret to inform you that we will not be shipping these and recalling the items that have been shipped. We have no current plans to re-release this figure at this time. All Credit Cards will be refunded immediately. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Just a note SS photographer is female.

The thing about CF and Kong is that they have all the right in the world to their opinion. They do it though to be a dick and that is why I have no problems seeing people or myself telling them to shut the muck up and go away. We don't need those kind of members here.

Done and Done

Thx to you who posted these. They are the same pics as SS but much better clarity.

I don't know if I'm qualified to hang with your opinions here, (your eye for detail goes way further than mine) but to a novice, I like the darker hue. The SDCC pictures do show a lighter hair color but the prototype hair/beard almost make him look like a wizened old man. That comes later. I don't know, for all the experts out there (and I mean that with respect) who will scream at me, I just think for $55/$60 I'm getting a pretty awsome figure.

About the tunic though. The pictures do make it look pretty white but when I recieved my Mace a few days ago I noticed that they got his tunic pretty close to the tan it should be. Somehow I think that the off-white color may be hard to pick up in photographs.

I agree with you if those 100 posts come after the product is actually received by the consumers. So far all of us (whether we love it, hate it, or fall somewhere inbetween) have based all of our opinions of it on one figure, in one set of pics with one setup of lighting.

Anyone else think it is strange that the exclusive Obi-Wan is packed wearing his robe and the regular is not? Its another nice way to tell the two editions apart in the package. His beard also looks much lighter in the packaging pics.

And yes, those tunics are NOT white in those pics. They are off white/very light tan.

I submit for everyone's reference and memory, a snippet from a live SSC chat during SDCC:

pixletwin: Is the Obi-Wan 12-inch paint job that we've seen at Comic-Con the production paint job?

Sideshow_Brant: The Obi-Wan on display is still the prototype - I only know because I lost a bet yesterday with someone from Rebelscum. Production looks just about the same.

Hrm...

So there can be a mad rush for a variant lol.

I think the reason is these are just pics to show the figure, I'm sure he will be like the others and have the robe behind him.

Yet your are among those happy with a production piece that hardly resembles what was shown at SDCC? You don't feel let down at all?? I believe it even veers into deception what has happened. :(

Irish, I believe you've beaten that horse into a fine paste. :horse

;)

Same with this joke. ;) But, in my defense... the quotes from the CHAT transcript with Brant ARE solid evidence in favor of those disappointed with this figure and how it's different from what was essentially promised.

Hey, I thought you'd banned yourself from these threads anyway. :lol

No I don't feel let down because after learning the truth I knew it was a pipe dream to expect a paint job that glorious.

That being said I am just happy it doens't look like the prototyp photos where he looks like a wild mountain man. I think he looks good. They are in business to sell these things so of course they want them to look as good as possible. I don't think the high paint apps veer any closer to deception than if they performed the watertreatment on them for the proto pics (which, actually, I wish they would).

Not the thread, just the debate. There's still plenty of entertainment to be found here. :D

So to compare them to "...cheap doll heads you'd find in dollar store type place." is not only misinformed but actually quite hilarious. :lol

From now on if I call something that you say laughable because I find if off the mark. Best to just stay quiet now. Since you just made yourself a hypocrite. Which doesn't suprise me.

Every one of us wants the best 12" Star Wars figures possible and that's why many of us offer constructive criticism. But there are a select few that have given the impression that Sideshow can do no wrong and any posts showing any hint of negativity is open to ridicule and/or attack, as if these posts were personal. Unfortunately these same few are just as unhelpful and unconstructive as those posting found on the extreme opposite end. But this has been mentioned many, many times prior to now and apparently has done absolutely no good.

It's not what's said it's how things are said. I would think you could comprehend that but I guess not. Also just becaus I might make post after post talking about how I disagree with a person for whatever reason in no ways means I'm trying to say their opinion isn't valid.

Yeah, I think some folks give me too much credit with any influence on a decision SS makes. I'm just a fan like everyone else. :)

As I said this just doesn't look good to me. It appears to be very bland and has no life to me. I'm not saying this as a fan of SS I'm just talking about what looks appealing to my eyes.

Brant made a mistake as far as what he thought the proto at SDCC was production. He als stated that he thinks they are close. You keep bringing this up like SS is trying to slip one by and trying to bend us over. This figure looks like the Proto at TF. He may have thought that one was the one on display. Unless you went and saw the mass chaos that was SDCC you wouldn't understand how something could get mistaken.

These are the types of comments that kind of piss me off. Deception? Are you serious!? Why don't you just come out and say SS, Brant, Dusty, etc. are liars. He said he believed the one on display at SDCC was production. He was wrong of course or he could have been thinking of the TF version. These kind of accusations are just plain BS.

Evidence for what? He said he thought it was then recanted. Everyone else that believed it after he said he was wrong can only blame themselves. What was promised a high end top notch figure and oh by the way it looks like the one at TF which a lot of people loved.

Honestly, jlcmsu, would it be possible for you to not have to post quotes of entire threads just to answer with your own illogical replies? If you can state your own opinions with intelligent and coherent responses, there would not be a need to post endless quotes of others.

You of course failed to see the irony in my post. I just gave you a piece of your own medicine when calling YOUR opinion as being funny. You, of course, took offense, failing to see the obvious hipocracy in your own posts.

But it's time to move on, back to the topic at hand. (by the way, the following is not directed at you, jlcmsu, so no need to take it personal...)

The fact of the matter is that there are a significant number of customers that are disappointed with the production photos of Obi-Wan, which are clearly different than what has been advertised (website, SDCC, etc...) prior. These same people have shared their disappointment and the best responses that have come up have been:

A. At least it's better than Hasbro's...

B. What do you expect for a $60 item?...

C. You can repaint it yourself...

D. Just be glad we're getting them in the first place...

E. If you want something better, then move up to the PF line...

F. Obi-Wan is cool. Star Wars is cool. Sideshow is cool.

All of the above are fine and dandy but don't address the honest concerns that many have about this figure specifically and the line in general.

As for me, personally, I can live with the darker paint apps, I can live with the monkey arms, the arms falling off, tight-fitting vests and plum-red lipstick colors, but I should be able to voice my concerns in the hope that SS will address those same concerns, perhaps in future releases. I think it worked with Sith Anakin, who's arm hasn't fallen off yet and who came with a decent shade of lipstick. That alone makes these posts worthwhile, in my opinion.

I'm entitled to my opinion but basically keep it to myself when I don't like something. Especially when I don't collect it.

I guess that rule only applies to your opinions on Sideshow toys but it's OK to say other companies products look like they came from the dollar store.

Good lord, ego much? Trust me, no one thinks your constant buttkissing has any influence on any decision SS makes.
And IMO you're not just a "fan like everyone else" because you're the only one who thinks everything they make is above criticism and that you need to be Sideshows personal defender against any negativity.
