It's funny that you jump to knee jerk reactions with your film that you are totally obsessed over, and can't possibly allow anyone to say anything negative. Or even something not negative, but just an observation.

The ending was just like Independence Day.

You got the giant mothership in the sky. The door opens, and it's shaped like a triangle. He tricks the Sally into coming in. Will Smith tricks the Alien into coming in. Both parties float through the spaceship, which is vast, and wide, filled with a dense fog. In ID4 you see aliens getting ready. In Oblivion, you see clones of Cruise and the girl. At the end, both parties confront the leader, and have a discussion. To which Cruise and Smith both reply with an explosive device. One is a missile plus a nice Mac Virus. Oblivion is a with a nuke and a Morgon Freeman. They both exchange some kind of final one liner, and then KABLOOEY. Yey for earth as all the evil little robots/spaceships, fall to the ground.

Oh, and for course 2001 is in there as well.

But no. You can't accept any differing opinion, or harmless observation. Sighs abound.

And i'll wait for your halfassed unoriginal comment on my enjoyment of Michael Bay movies. Because that's all you have.

Right so, everything I said still rings as a possible truth. The first half of you're statement is just a rewording of mine. So you must agree.

And who says the "thousands" of Harpers would ever find her? Earths a pretty big place. And I would assume that even with the tet being destroyed all the other Harpers would still follow their protocol, cause its all they know (don't go into radiation zones).

Didn't realize people need EVERYTHING spelled out for them in movies. Man you must really hate Inception if you're having problems not knowing more then you want with the end of this film.

come on. really? really??
no more TET. no more sally. all podbots down. what then...explore and survive, i'd presume that's jack harper's(1-52) next move. how do you think that would pan out...jack meet jack, oh shat its me.

You know...Inception actually DID spell everything out. They explained every single detail in that movie, and the only thing you had to do was keep up, and appreciate the slight subtext. This movie tells you next to ****. And that's not good.

The film left a big gap, and should've filled it. There's no reason not too. It's a big part of the story. You DO need to spell that out because that's important. It's not a side story. It's the main story.

I think people have a problem differentiating from a film being smart, and a film not really being anything. Telling your viewer what is happing isn't something exclusive to dumb movies. You do HAVE to give the audience something. You can't leave it all to them. You can, and should leave something for them to pick at. But it shouldn't have to do with the main story.

That's the problem with this film. It leaves the viewer to figure out what happened, but doesn't give you the tools necessary to do so.

its an open ended ending that leaves you with countless possibilities.

which is why i preferred jack and julia went out like romeo and juliet in the end...but, no. we get that ending instead.

Pretty much. The end...you feel nothing, because what makes that character so special...considering the twist?

Answer...nothing. Despite what Morgan Freeman said when Jack first met him. I don't buy it.

The Scavs were living in the same sector as Jack 49... and they saw him slowly realize there was something wrong... that's why he was special, he was "awakening", he just needed a little push.
Besides, it took Jack 52 like 3 years to "awaken" and find Julia along with the remaining Scavs...
What else do you need to know? :dunno

BTW CelticP, we get it... you didn't understand the movie, you didn't get it... you didn't like it... loud and clear... move along, go troll the Amazing Spiderman 2 thread now... :wave

I enjoyed this movie a lot. Sure, it borrowed heavily from a lot that has come before, but I think it was well done.

But what I enjoyed most was the soundtrack. Again, borrowed quite obviously in parts from TDK trilogy and Inception stuff, as well as the Tron soundtrack, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Visuals of this movie were sublime. Loved the designs too.

Out of interest, what gave that away in the first 10 mins?

Cruise does a voice over for like the first 5 minutes to set up the world. And then maybe the next five minutes you see his living conditions. That voice over is very telling. The living condition and his partner further reinforced my guess at to what was going on.

I've read a fair amount of sci-fi books and watched a whole mess of sci-fi movies and TV like The Twilight Zone. So the "twist" is very typical for this genre. If I were to write a sci-fi I think I'd do the same kind of setup.

Also this movie took an idea (or had a similar one) to another sci-fi movie that came out recently within the last 4-5 years. Don't want to spoil it by naming it but I know that movie didn't sell many tickets so most probably didn't see it. It's the one with Sam Rockwell.

But overall this was a thoroughly entertaining movie that looked and sounded great.

Also, I love how the drones are cast as villains

Yep!! Considering how currently they are a hot topic over here in the US... I was like: "Holy ****!! This could happen"... :panic:

Oh yeah! Love that movie too!!
Though in Moon, it was a bit more brutal and the evil one was the company, while here it was the aliens/robots...

Agreed...there was that Twilight zone feel here...good post:clap

Hey guys, just came back from seeing this and I loved it! It was one of the best scifi movies I have seen in a long time. In fact, today I had one of the best movie experiences ever, saw this on Imax, got perfect seats and no one was talking or bugging me.

I was just blown by the visuals and the designs. Really happy I saw this on IMAX! The story was also great. I loved that everything was nicely explained and shown. I wasn't even expecting them to show
what happened to the original Jack and it's crew.
so that was nice too, it added to the emotional moment.

Also one thing that intrigued me and that I don't see a lot of people talking about is how
the Tet was a synthetic life form. No alien race, just a lone machine looking to re-charge it's batteries (basically).

It makes me wonder the story behind of it. What is it, who built it, what was it's purpose? Was it created by an alien civilization and became selfware, destroying it's creators and now seeks planets to "survive"?

It can make one wonder. I love when a movie leaves me thinking about it, beyond it's main plot.

Overall, it was a 10 out 10 for me. :yess:

Awesome movie- visually one of the top ones of the last several years.
Great sci-fi for once...at last.
Cruise and rest of cast really good- no surprise as Cruise gives 100% in every role I've seen him in

Amazing amazing movie. Total fun. Day 1 purchase now on Blu Ray for sure! :yess:

Loved the drones and the sound effects.
Best visuals in a while! Nice and clean, believeable, while at the same time being "out there" with concept and design.
First awesome movie I've seen this year. One down. Bring on the next!
