Given its my favorite dinosaur, I gotta know, what is the difference between Stegosaurus stenops and Stegosaurus armatus?

The differences are largely minimal, considering that they both inhabited the same area (the Morrison Formation) during the late Jurassic. S.armatus was nearly a third longer, being around 30 feet and S.stenops around 20 feet. Also, S.stenops had slightly broader plates.

Alright, because I'm so damn persnickety, I found one problem that I'm having with the maquette. If you look at the banded jaw musculature, there are no visible blood vessels perforating, whereas in the T.rex VS Triceratops dio, a glut of vessels are visible. There. Took me long enough, but I found fault somewhere. :lol Granted, it's not a large complaint, but it is something I would have liked to have had detailed, as it does seem to appear on the prototype.

What a ripoff!

Actually, I don't see that in my Rex either. Are they sculpted in there or just painted on?

I agree with you, that was the first thing I noticed, I would of like to have that detail too, I did not mention anything because I thought it did not apply to the carnotaurus or mabey they wanted to give it a different look knowing that the carnotaurus is smaller than the T-rex. I'm pretty sure the vessels effect are painting only.

It's definitely in the paint application, and it does appear in hi-res shots of the prototype piece. The vessels show through as dark pigmentation on the T.rex toward the most posterior part of the jaw muscles, where the surangular meets the quadratojugal. It's really a minor gripe, I suppose, but it is a striking bit of detail when looking at the Tyrannosaur's jaws, and it would have been nice to see it on the Carnotaurus as well.

Just checked through the picture threads. All of the T.rex pics have that feature, which the Carnos lack. Again, a minor feature but it's nice detail.

That is odd. I was thinking maybe it was too fine of a detail to keep in production, but if its on the production Rex that doesn't explain it since that jaw is smaller than the Carno's.

Really? Interesting. They sold like hotcakes in my store. Or as quickly as two-hundred dollar hotcakes can sell, anyway.

Mm. Hotcakes.

My guess is that it's one of those details that became lost in production. Hopefully it won't happen in the future. It's a nicety that really makes the dio pop.

And on related note for which there isn't a topic, and I can't justify creating a new topic for it yet:

-Next Dinosauria diorama is in the mold & cast phase
-Next Dinosauria maquette is in the sculpture phase

Both are "pretty mega pieces" which we'll see unveiled before the end of the year!

:banana:banana:banana:banana:banana:banana:banana

Hmm, I guess that means it'll be a bit before the next maquette, but the dio shouldn't be too far away. Very cool. I can't wait to see them.

Before the end of the year we should see what they are. Granted I'm sure the aforementioned announcements are subject to modification, but I remain optimistic that we'll see something on both of these sooner rather than later. Calling them "pretty mega pieces" is an intriguing statement, considering I can't really imagine how much grander they could get than what they already are... well, that and still remain financially manageable.

I see Shai is incredulous regarding Sideshow's robust tenacity to see through such a deadline.

Pretty exciting stuff. The only one I know about wasn't supposed to be announced until next year, so it looks like they're cranking up the pace a bit. :chew
