I know people will probably disagree, but Brendan Gleeson is one of my favorite actors and I think he would be good for Beorn (but he's probably not big enough and too old)

Don't believe Aragorn's in the Hobbit. Legolas' and Gimli's fathers are in it though. Even though it's not shown, only mentioned, they could have the white council

Legolas could easily be in it as well. There are a few parts where it mentions King Thranduil's sons.

Brendan Gleeson would be great--but make him Thorin, for sure. And I would love to see Martin Freeman as Bilbo.

Aragorn was only ten years old at the time The Hobbit takes place, so Viggo is out. (Of the first one, at least.)

I never thought of this actor for Beorn but he is a pretty good fit.

Gandalf gives quite a description of Beorn

'He is a skin-changer. He changes his skin; sometimes he is a huge black bear, sometimes he is a great strong black-haired man with huge arms and a great beard. I cannot tell you much more, though that ought to be enough. Some say that he is a bear descended from the great and ancient bears of the mountains that lived there before the giants came. Others say that he is a man descended from the first men who lived before Smaug or the other dragons came into this part of the world, and before the goblins came into the hills out of the North. I cannot say, though I fancy the last is the true tale. He is not the sort of person to ask questions of.
At any rate he is under no enchantment but his own. He lives in an oak-wood and has a great wooden house; and as a man he keeps cattle and horses which are nearly is marvellous as himself. [...] I once saw him sitting all alone on the top of the Carrock at night watching the moon sinking towards the Misty Mountains, and I heard him growl in the tongue of bears; 'The day will come when they will perish and I shall go back!' That is why I believe he once came from the mountains himself.'

McKellan is a definate Gandalf. Serkis will be a shoo-in for Jackson (seems he's tethered to Jackson -- LOTR, Kong, and now Tin-Tin). Haven't thought seriously about other roles, but think that Holm reprising Bilbo is unrealistic.

Weta for sure on FX (after all, Jackson is part owner right?); am hoping for Shore again for soundtrack (whatever caused the split between them during Kong I hope won't keep them from collaborating again). Hoping that Lee and Howe will manage to be involved.

Am sure we will beat this to death in the ensuing year. :lol

Ian McKellan as Gandalf is a MUST, in my opinion. It's like having someone other then Johnny Depp play Captain Jack or someone other then Sylvester Stallone playing Rocky, if Sir Ian doesn't reprise the role.... :(

I'd really like to see Ian Holm return as Bilbo, but, that may be un-realistic at this point.

Howard Shore, I hope is involved. For some reason I think the break-up between Shore and P.J. wasn't on the greatest of terms. I hope I'm wrong thou...

I also wanna see Alan Lee and John Howe return to Middle-Earth...

Plus many others of my favorites...

:D

What are the odds that Sam Raimi is the director. His name has just been mentioned too often for him not to be the first choice. It seems just from reading past articles that he and PJ could work together and seem to be friendly with each other. Although I still hate that Spiderman removed his mask in public like a kajillion times.

Sam Raimi?

All class and style goes out the window. Sorry, but I just don't see him as an acceptable choice for the material.

He is a likely choice though.
