What if they do this in the style of "Beowulf"?

:D

Maybe just for Bilbo? That way Ian Holm would still play him, but would be younger than he actually is. Just have a Serkis or someone else do the on set work, and CGI over them with a young Ian.

What about Hugo Weaving as Elrond again. Elrond was in the Hobbit right? It has been a while since I read it.

I honestly can't imagine it would be difficult to get any of the original cast back to reprise their roles. They all seemed to have loved their LotR experience. This isn't Star Wars afterall :lol

Who should play whom.....? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

What about the beautiful Cate Blanchett as Galadriel again as if i'm not mistaken she actually was one of Sauron's most feared enemies and fought against him in battle back in the day!:D Just if they are doing flashbacks through history as it were it would be cool to see a little of that!!

They wouldn't have to do a full CGI Bilbo to make him look younger. Just use the same technique that was used during the flashback scene in X-Men 3 to make Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian look 20 years younger. That worked perfectly, but still allowed the actors to be completely in the scene. The only thing I don't know is whether it would be cost-effective with as much screen time as Bilbo has.

He's back as producer. Nothing has been said about writing or directing.

a big difference between producer and executive producer. pj will be financing this project, which means he is the 'overseer'.

Sam Raimi?

All class and style goes out the window. Sorry, but I just don't see him as an acceptable choice for the material.

He is a likely choice though.

they'll call sam if they need something blown up, smoke filled scenes or camera work that looks directly into the light. :lol

Hmmm... I like Raimi for some films, but not much for this one. If PJ has the reins, though, then we'll probably get something not too far from Jackson's vision, or what we all pretty much expect the Hobbit to be. Who directs it will be a critical decision, in any case.

I seem to recall an interview I read with Sir Ian McKellan where he said he'd only reprise Gandalf if PJ were directing. I really can't see anyone but him playing Mithrandir again. Hugo Weaving is also pretty much a must have for Elrond. I don't know how Galadriel could be worked into the Hobbit, but Cate Blanchett said she'd be delighted to play the Lady of the Golden Wood again if given the chance.

There are lots of dwarves to be played, 13 at the very least, all of whom should get major screen time if the film sticks to the book, and it'll be interesting to see how those roles are cast. I'd like to see John Rhys-Davies as one of them, Balin maybe, but I don't think he'll ever agree to wear the makeup again after his horrible experience with it while making LOTR. A shame really, 'cause he's a fine actor and did such a great job as Gimli. :monkey2

They could just use CGI.

:lol

Before any of us saw LOTR on screen I would have thought PJ was a terrible choice for director (I tried to sit through DEAD ALIVE once... :pow ). But he surprised the heck out of everybody. Jackson's early style strangely resembles Raimi's early work (in fact I prefer Raimi's early stuff over PJ's), I could see Raimi being a very natural fit in the directors chair especially under Jackson's supervision.

And please God, in the name of all that is holy, please don't let them do this film as a mo-cap animated atrocity like Beowulf. :monkey1

I'd like that too. Gimli (JRD) was the best adapted character from MY imagination. Actually better! I thought Gimli was PERFECTLY done, and I liked the sense of humor too.

Also, the SSW Gimli statue has the best human (you know what I mean!) likness of the Fellowship IMO!

If I'm not mistaken she was a member of the Noldor when they fought Melkor during the Flight of the Noldor. She's been around the block

i echo that!!!! but as it has been told, pj would like to seemlessly integrate the 2 hobbit films with the trilogy. raimi, imo would be a bust. he relies too much on explosions, odd camera angles, and lots of smoke. transformers was actually annoying to watch.

The ONLY way to 'seamlessly' integrate the films is for PJ to direct the Hobbit himself, hands down. If a new director must take the reigns some inconsistency is simply inevitable, so I think Raimi is as good a choice as any... But that's just my opinion. And I'll have to seek out Raimi's version of Transformers, I wonder how it compares to the recent Michael Bay film..? ;)

:gimli I agree on John Rhys-Davies as Balen (surely the make-up technology has improved in all this time).

:legolas Of course, Orlando Bloom as Thranduil. Orli's aged too much to play a younger version of baby-faced Legolas, but I think he'd make a kick-ass Elf King! (Legs can be "off on a quest"...)

No thanks on JRD as Balin or any other dwarve. I want new blood where new blood is warranted.

Also a BIG no on Bloom as Thranduil (for the same reason). But Bloom could still play Legolas since it does mention Thranduil's sons in a couple different scenes.

The makeup techniques and principles used for LOTR have pretty much been around (and relatively unchanged) for decades, I doubt anything has changed dramatically in the past 4 years. And I tend to agree with pixle on this one--- if new blood is warranted, I think it should be embraced. Not that I don't love the LOTR cast!
