Can't wait for this guy!!! :D

That looks AWESOME!

I just reviewed the Mark I scenes from the Iron Man blu ray on my 70" HD projector and here are a few of my observations, based on the photo below:
  • The MK I scenes happen so fast and are mostly in the dark early on, so to get a good view of the suit is really tough. But for the most part, placement of the paint, if not the correct application (it may be a bit heavy), especially on the right foot, left gauntlet and "buckle" are very close, so close as to be a non issue IMHO. We see a bit more detail when Tony comes out of the cave, but there's only one good shot, and the suit is washed out from the sunlight. The rest of the scene he's engulfed in flames, so again it's tough to get a clear view. The yellow pyro tank seems at first to be a bit over done, BUT...
  • If you go into the extras portion of the disc and review the Hall of Armor feature, and examine the 3D section of the MK I, the HT figure comes much closer, so much so it seems this may be a true source of their work, which actually makes good sense. Here, the pyro tank is much more yellow, and paint apps start to match up closer to the pic below, albeit a bit brighter, but not by much. The biggest difference to me seems to be the paint on the left foot; in some photos we've seen so far it appears to be a heavier yellow like the tank...below and in the 3D model, not as much so. The biggest differences between the movie version & the extras version, based on the limited, fleeting glances we do get to see, is that the armor seems to have more of a sheen to it, whereas the 3D model, and therefore the final figure, is a bit more flat. But to be honest, that kind of judgment is hard to make just from pics of the figure.

  • Based solely on the pics so far, without having the figure in hand (which I hope to have either tomorrow or Monday), it seems that the final release may be more screen accurate then some of the pics of the protos released to the public some months ago (which may be taken some artistic liberties), especially if you consider the source is the 3D Hall of Armor shots. We'll see!

couldn't you just look at this? Or is this not accurate? I know there are a lot more pics of it.

You know when it comes to Marvel, I have to admit I just don't care that much about screen accuracy. I have been an Ironman fan for more than 25 years so what matters to me is that Hot Toys captures the spirit of the character. And the have done a great job of that.

I feel the same way about the new HT Wolverine. I really don't care if it looks just like Hugh Jackman or not. Just look like Wolverine.

There must be other Marvel fans that feel this way.

then why bother getting the movie license? HT could just as well get a license from marvel and make any ironman they want. Or wolverine for that matter.

I read on the HK boards that they are doing the whole John Connor thing with the Mark I as well.....updating the paint on the later versions.

I heard that facilities are closing in China and so a lot of companies are finding different manufacturing companies. Maybe there is a learning curve they are having to fix.

I also heard about this. What I heard was that the old factory wasn't big enough to manufacture all the releases so HT switched factories. Guess they are still working to fix all the kinks.

I went back and read the discussion in detail and basically someone called Hot Toys to inquire about the Mark 1. Hot Toys immediately acknowledged that there was a problem with the paint. The caller also asked about the head and Hot Toys admits that the material used wasn't right and the heads ended up being too translucent. Nothing can be done about the heads though because all the heads have already been produced. The material will be corrected for future products.

Hmmm, as much as we all want this NOW, it may pay to wait a bit longer and get one with better paint apps anyways. Interesting...

MiniVader, I often ask myself that. But I am guessing that there business models says that there is not a market for a high end 12" fig with out a movie. But, who knows. I am not faulting anyone who considers screen likeness important with the Marvel line. For me, I am just happy to get a HT 12" marvel fig made.

well something CAN be done, if hot toys wants to be responsible towards its customers. they can either issue a recall like they did with the john connor headsculpt. or they can give the affected customers (like me!) a discount/full refund off the figure. i'm hoping for the former solution.

as long as it's not a sideshow "take it or leave it" kind of attitude. ok, maybe that's a bit harsh, since sideshow does offer replacements and refunds. but they do it only as a response and not as an initiative, which is a big difference.

If it is accurate then you'll see split shipments. We there'll be some out and about that the consumers have to get replacements from HT but the majority of the US Customers will have to wait for the issue to be resolved.

As much that is shipping this month, they can take their time with it to get it right, same with John Conner.
