Great stuff sith lord. And les, man... isn't enough that your work alone inspires folks like me to do repaints like this, but you gotta actually suggest i do MORE? CRAZY!

But why not.. just a little:
The last pic:

And now:

Now that one finally captures pretty much what he looks like, finally got hte light right. I did repaint the eyes, never really done detailed eyes, never done 12 inch scale eyes. But i understand the basics of them. I went with smaller overall corneas and i kept the white dots but made them much smaller than sideshows. Now his eyes actually look blue.. not odd blueish grey. And yes i have them looking up.. JUST a bit... i didn't want to go to far and mess him up. I also redid the lining around his eyeball, that dark color just wasn't working anymore, now its more intune with his lips, more fleshy.

I must say hes looking alot more lifelike to me, so im quite ecstatic, thanks for the suggestions les!

THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

Fearless repainting. Just go with it and get the figure you want.
Hey, I always push myself, and the expectations of others, folks like yourself, push me also. SO, it's about time someone responded to my occasional push.

BRAVO! I salute you!

Let the Wookie dance... :chew

Oh, and Sith Lord...GREAT SITE! I really enjoyed your photos.

Yes your like an evil sith lord pushing me around like your pawn... i do what you wish my master! Ok maybe not but anyways...

Hood up just for fun:

I have a question about repainting eyes. Is it just a case of a tiny tiny brush and a steady hand? (I'm an artist, and have done 6" figure repaints, but never the eyes.. so I know I have a steady enough hand). Could someone show what brush they use when doing their eyes? i KNOW I'll be doing this when this figure comes.

Also.... I know that hairpiece is a seperate sculpt, used to give the 'floating hair' look. Has anybody tried to take it off? I want to resculpt the hair as well, but it would be MUCH easier doing it off the head (and less scary too!!). I'm just wondering how strongly it's glued on there

thanks!

oh... I know it's only a 6" figure (I'm on this Star Wars and Lord of the Rings lines now though!) but here's my Captain Picard repaint/slight sculpt I did a few years back

Well, HA.... I can answer the eyes question, as I have just figured out a lot about them myself. I use the smallest brush I can find, The spotter. It's tiny, like .10... Works best for me, as I have kinda shaky hands. (blame the military, I do...:lol )

Just remember, oyster color for the eyes... not white. And to get that dark line around the edge of the cornea, start out with a dark circle of the shade you are going for and then highlight the inside. End with the black dot and gloss it over....

As for the hair, I don't know if it would be wise to remove it. I have not tried with Anakin, but I know you can achieve good hair without having to take it off. Just again, use a steady hand. Start dark and work to lighter colors, dry brush at the end to achieve good highlights. You can't lose...:D

Hair.

I do the hair line before painting in the rest of the hair. Get yourself a small flat brush, then wipe the hair color off one side of the flat brush, leaving the paint on the other side. Then go over the hair line carefully and methodically. I usually let the paint be a little heavy on the brush to create a smooth line. If there isn't enough paint on the brush, then you'll get weird jagged edges in the hair line. If it's a horrific hair line, like Luke or the upcoming Aragorn figure, go back in with a small thin brush (like you'd use for eyes) and do touch ups to the hair line. Once that's done, you can go over and add your highlights and such.

thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.

With the hair though, I'm not thinking of maybe taking it off just to paint it... I want to dremel part of it away....lol. As you look at the face, the top left part, where it goes from say the temple up to the part. It's just not the right shape (hell, even the hasbro figure had this closer) also the part itself could do with a little reshaping.

I'd be worried that I'd end up touching the face accidentally with the dremel... hence the wanting to pry the hairpiece off from the back with a screwdriver or soemthing... work on it.. and put it back.

Unless of course they do completely glue-weld that thing on.. in which case i wont, lol

Thanks, Les. There's also a Luke Skywalker review with Photoshop pics as well, but it was my earlier work when I was still learning Photoshop. Hopefully, I'll have Kit Fisto up in a month or so (the site admin is sending me his Kit temporarily since I didn't order it).

I wasn't quite happy with my lip repaint, so I went back and changed the shade. I also lightened the eyebrows although now there is a single flat color on them. Still, I think it looks much better than it did out of the box.

And yes, I know it looks like Anakin's blade is picking his nose... :lol

Anakin looks cool, SithLord 0498. Could you post a closer shot? What did you do to get his lips that colour?

This is only close up I have. I just altered it yesterday, so I only have two pics of Anakin in his current form.

As for the lip color, I removed the original paint with acetone and then painted the new lips on it. I mixed a shade of pink, black, and orange acrylic paints until the shade looked right. Then I used a satin sealant for acrylics to give it that semi-moist look. I then used a pin, laid it horizontal on the part where the lips meet and kept pushing down to get the paint wedged in there and give it some depth (originally the repaint covered up that separation in the sculpt and it looked awful).

Those look great. You're lucky that you got those really rare ones with the working lightsabers.

Problem was that the figure slipped out of my grip and now I have to hold the brush with only FOUR fingers... :D

Thanks for posting the pic, per my request. I am working up the bravery to paint mine or send him away to be painted.... working it up... working it up...

You're welcome.

Unless you have a lot of patience and a steady hand, I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. This is a pricey figure that's not easily replaceable if you mess up. I myself nearly ruined it but salvaged it, swearing I'd leave well enough alone.

Well...obviously that went out the window yesterday. Thankfully, it worked perfectly this time. :)

Thtas sweet... makes me want to try and do some new pics of anakin... maybe someone should just make a single "Sideshow Star Wars Action Photo Thread" where you can post cool pics of any and all of the sideshow star wars figures, that way we don't have single threads for each that might get lost in the deep pages because of new topics.

Nice work Sith Lord!
Hard one to redo isn't it?

You mean the lips? Yeah, they were. I still don't have the right shade, but it's been too risky already. They're better than the original factory paint job, and that's good enough for me! :)
