Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

The theatrical aint that great. The AC is better. But I THINK it's great. It's great too me.

Doesn't make it a good movie.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

^ But they do trap the Alien. In the AC.
AC?

I haven't seen the movie in about a year, so I hope I'm not forgetting anything...but I thought that in the theatrical version they show the scene with Ripley and Pete Postelwehdbahcfbafswhatever at that big..room, with the 6 foot thick steel doors or whatever, going on about how they're going to trap it in there "So you're saying if we get that thing in there, there's no way it can get out?"..somthing along those lines. And then they never do it.

That might be wrong..I need to watch it again.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

In the Assembly Cut, they do trap the Alien. The Alien is trapped for most of the last half of the movie, until Golic (guy in the bed) opens the door because he thinks it's his savior or something. He then gets killed, and the Alien is free again.

Oh, yeah, I didn't know what "AC" stood for.

But in the theatrical cut..don't they discuss trapping it in that room, then it never happens?

IF that^^^ is true..my point was that the special edition does NOT create more plot holes...since it would be eliminating that giant one right there.

I haven't seen the special version in about a year..I haven't seen the theatrical version in about 3-4, but that's what I remember. Them discussing trapping the alien in the room, then never showing it getting trapped in there. Which makes no sense. Like I said though, it's been awhile since I saw it an that could be wrong..

And let's not forget the "Queen Facehugger" coming from an egg that's half the size of a normal egg.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Prometheus = alien prequel?

im out of the loop on this one.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

And let's not forget the "Queen Facehugger" coming from an egg that's half the size of a normal egg.
The egg we see stuck in the corner is half the size of a normal one? In the weird beginning of the movie where you can hardly tell what's happening? I never would have guessed...never noticed it...never cared. Very minute part of the film...

They didn't even show the Queen Facehugger in the theatrical release, did they? And in the special edition we only see it for a second when one of the guys in the background picks it up I believe. It was never a big part of the film.

But yeah..the whole trapping the alien thing is a much more important part of the movie.
There are problems with the alien designs in EVERY movie, but that doesn't mean they're bad movies.

Yes, it's very small and you should care because that "minute" part is the pillar that story is based on. Without it the rest of the story would not have happened. We are never told or shown how the egg got there and given the ending of Aliens that egg ended up on the ship, let alone on the ceiling in cryo room, is next to impossible. But the people at Fox had to have a third movie, so instead of getting a great script, they crowbar Fincher into making a movie without one. Good job jackasses!

No, they don't show it. It is a quick shot, but the thing is huge. Again, you've missed a major plot point. Facehuggers lay one egg, fall off the victim and then die right? Well, some how THIS Facehugger was able to lay two eggs. This has never happened before and it's yet another plot hole in the theatrical release. So in the special edition people were calling it a Queen Facehugger and giving it the ability to lay more then one egg.

But yeah.. the whole trapping the alien thing is a much more important part of the movie. There are problems with the alien designs in EVERY movie, but that doesn't mean they're bad movies.

I'm sorry but I can't agree here. The two plot points that I listed above are far more important parts of the film. I also don't agree that there were problems with the Alien design in every movie. Alien and Aliens are pretty much perfect films in my mind.

I hated Alien 3 because nothing made sense. I wanted to like it so did some research and watched it over and over. The plot got worse with ever viewing. I own the bluray, but it's still the weakest of the three.

Anywho we can agree to disagree. :duff

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Prometheus = alien prequel?

im out of the loop on this one.

It is, but it isn't. From what I've read Scott wanted to make an Alien prequel, but Fox wouldn't back it. So he took most of the story elements from what would have been an Alien prequel and made Prometheus.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

That's not what I meant exactly. We see an egg, facehugger (dead and alive), Ripley having chest pains/fatigue, see the embryo in Ripley, we get it. I think you're one of the only ones to be upset about the size of the egg.. And I don't see how you could think the egg was half the size of a normal one without taking time out to analyze it. If it was the size of a chicken egg, people would notice and it would be ridiculous..but it wasn't. Might have been a bit inaccurate, but you understand what happens if you watch the film..so it's not that big of a deal.

It makes no sense. It's a big part of the story, they're going to trap the alien..then the trapping the alien part is completely skipped over.

It'd be like Ripley losing Newt, she decides to go get her..Then it skips to Ripley running away from the Queen to the Dropship, with no Newt.. :lol

I don't understand why it all has to be specifically explained to the viewers, either.
Nothing too extremely odd occured.

Uhm, in Alien we have a VERY different looking creature than in Aliens. So now they have no dome, they're part of a hive..what happened here? Why did they not have a dome? That wasn't explained in the film. The original alien had a dome, and other small differences. Movie ruined.

How can you accept somthing like that, but can't accept the issues with Alien 3?

Just doesn't seem like that big of a deal, especially when there are tons of other small inconsistencies throughout the franchise.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

There is even a debate as to whether AVP is a good movie or not?

Predators stay in hot climates - IGNORE (I'm sure it was for training blah blah blah...)

The preds were so ugly I'm not even sure if their mother's loved them...

And what's with the steroid preds? Kept waiting for one to snap into a SlimJim

Street Fighter fight choreography.

Goofy shifting maze set.

T-Rex dressed as a queen alien.

How they could have something as cool and simple as the AVP comic and end up with that train wreck is beyond me.

As many crapy things AVP:R had going I at least thought the skinny pred was a little more in character. Even if everything else was nuts.

Don't get me started on the 8' gauntlet blades.

I dislike the film but I find it oddly watchable. And I must confess that I had a geekgasm when the two first appeared together onscreen.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Right, it was a good movie. As a movie alone, it's great. As a cannon part of the A/P universe, not so much.

To each their own.

But no.

The heat thing isn't a big enough deal to even mention..but yeah.

It was a big enough deal to mention over and over and over again in P1 and P2.

The pyramid was built BEFORE it was all icey and ____. Plus, the whole extra weight thing could have been because of the cold climate.

Except Hollywood shows its usual level of scientific idiocy in thinking that Antarctica was thawed out at any time in human history. You have to go back tens of millions of years to get a warm Antarctica, and the continent was frozen over more than 15 million years before Australopithicus appeared, let alone the more modern humans shown in the film.

Never saw a problem with the inside design of the pyramid... :dunno

At that point in the story, if you're on board with the whole rite of passage thing, it makes some sense.

Yeah, I get that..never saw it as a big problem though. Never really was a fan of the way the Queen in Aliens moved..but that's fine because it was a puppet/pulled by a crane...

Technology of the time. There should have been a way to film the Queen without making her look like a T-rex.

Yep...

Meh, Wolf was ruined for me the minute he skinned the guy and threw him into the tree. Doing exactly the opposite of what he was sent there to do.
Ridiculous

Stealthy. So much potential in the stories, so much stupid in the films.

To each their own.

But no.
How was it a bad movie then?

Listen, I get it. I totally understand. It's the cool thing to do.
But you've got to be reasonable.

If the creatures in the film were not aliens or predators, none of this excessive, douchey, elitist bashing would be going on.

..because it was simply, a good movie. Not a great movie..not an amazing movie..just an average, good movie. It didn't help the A/P franchise at all though, in fact..it was very damaging to it. But it itself was a good movie.

It was a big enough deal to mention over and over and over again in P1 and P2.
Forgot about Keys' little "lions and tigers and bears oh my!" speech..but still, I believe the superior space alien hunters can go in more chilly climates as well as hot ones.
That just seems like a cheap shot.

That's completely irrelevant.

What was wrong with the rite of passage idea? And still, not seeing why you guys are upset with the inside of the pyramid. If you're going to insult me, atleast explain why the pyramid scares you all so much. :lol

Technology of the time. There should have been a way to film the Queen without making her look like a T-rex.
Yup, completely aware of that. For somthing so big and complex, and the time it was made..it's not going to be nearly as easy as it would be in modern days.

I never thought of a t-rex when I first saw her, and don't think it was bad or needed to be changed, but it would have been cool to see her move in a more traditional "alien" way.

Blackmask, I think that's supposed to be a Jockey..but it looks a few feet too small. I think it was confirmed in some recent article that the big bald space men are the jockeys, and that they're nine feet tall.

Maybe she gets raped by a mutant and a Jockey? :dunno

Looks like a completely different person.

Given that a big'ish slice of the movie was P2 lurking about in a big chilled facility for storing raw meats and that he frequently visited it to feed and that Keys tried to freeze him to no effect i dont see how P2 wearing just bra and panties was too affected by the cold. If anything, maybe the reason it was mentioned in p1 and p2 that they like to hunt where its hot is not because of the creature but because of the prey. We all know various species/plantlife thrive, reproduce and/or come out of hiding during heatwaves.

Just doesn't seem like that big of a deal, especially when there are tons of other small inconsistencies throughout the franchise.

So you're telling me that you don't see why the egg ending up on the Sulaco is important to the plot when it's pretty much impossible for it to be there in the first place? Forget all that other ____. That's poor story telling. Period.

I'm sorry man, but that's just :cuckoo:

That is the most important plot element of the whole story, with out it there's no prison planet, no prisoners and no Dog Alien. You're just choosing to over look it because you like the film.

I can handle small inconsistencies about the look of the Alien, that's no big deal, but what I can't handle are HUGE inconsistencies in the plot. Alien and Aliens are seamless, everything makes sense. With Alien 3 the viewer gets a crowbar over the head within the first five minutes of the film. The worst part is that Fox didn't give damn and by accepting their bull____ you're telling them it's okay. You know that speech that Ripley gives the prisoners about the company not giving a ____ about any of their friends who have died? That was about Fox not giving a ____ about the future of the Alien films. There hasn't been a solid Alien film since 1986, hopefully 2012 is going to change that.

Cheers. :duff
