Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I know. But it was a word, that's existed. It did stick though. It's in the movie, which is a plus, and has been located in pretty much every official piece of Alien merch known to man.

Plus, i'm trying to cool down this argument from coming onto my side...:lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

This Wikitity entry is right on the money.

Name

This creature has no specific name, and has been referred to most often onscreen, and in the credits of each film, simply as the Alien. It was called an alien, an organism, and Kane's son in the first film. It has also been referred to as a creature,[1] a serpent,[9] a beast,[2] a dragon,[2] a monster,[1] or simply, a thing.[10] The term xenomorph (lit. "alien form"—from Greek xeno- or "strange" and -morph, shape) was used by the character Lieutenant Gorman in Aliens[1] and by Ellen Ripley in a deleted scene from Alien 3.[2] This term has been adopted by fans[11] and used in merchandising[12] as a convenient name. The species' binomial names are given in Latin as either Internecivus raptus (meant as "murderous thief") in the Alien Quadrilogy DVD or Lingua foeda acheronsis (meant as "foul tongue from Acheron")[13] in some comic books.[14] The main Alien from Alien vs. Predator is listed in the credits as "Grid", after a grid-like wound received during the film.[9]

There. :D

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Wait, I didn't read most of the preceding debate (lol) so was the debate about the specific/official name of the Alien species!? If so, yeah it's unknown and should remain that way. I thought the debate was about the term "Xenomorph" and if it was appropriate. Because it is, since it's cannon.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I think the latter. Badmoon doesn't like the name or something. I mean...Gorman said the name. He used it as a broad slightly generic term, ya know? Like-

"A Canine might be involved".

Could be any kinda doggy.

I think. I don't know...Aliens was never a film I felt the need to delve deep into...:lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I can't believe this debate is still going on...
Gorman used the term xenomorph referring to some/any type of extra-terrestrial life form that might be giving grief to the colonists at Hadley's Hope.
He was not using it to describe the type of alien that Ripley and the crew of the Nostromo confronted.
As far as the movies go, the first time ever this species was encountered by humans was in LV-426 by the crew of the Nostromo. End of story.

Not trying to troll but is AvP part of the Aliens franchise? Because if it is then we have encountered them twice on Earth, just in containable circumstances.

No it is not appropriate. How people do not understand this is beyond me. :lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

How is it not appropriate? You're not making one bit of sense..

It just sounds like the name raped you as a child, and you want nothing to do with it.

How is it NOT appropriate!? It's in the movie. That's what a character in the film calls them. Alien, Xenomorph, Serpent, etc. All those terms are acceptable.

Again, this isn't like that fan made fantasy crap that's only accepted by nerdy fans.

So what's your reasoning?

No he does not. He says "A xenomorph may be involved."

How hard is that to grasp? If it was what Gorman was guessing the Marines likely wouldn't have gotten their ***** kicked.

They then use terms like things the rest of the movie. No one says oh we gots to stop these xenomorphs from getting in here do they?

You don't make any sense. You don't even understand the movie. I've already schooled you on that. :lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

PROMETHEUS will not tell the story of the Derelict.
Nor of that space jockey/engineer that was in that Derelict.

The space Jockey was a biomechanoid spacesuit, inside it a creature.
This creature race is called Engineers, one their leader and super scientist has a giant sculpture of his face appearing in PROMETHEUS.
That face is almost human.

The Engineers are humanoids, ther are the gods that helped humanity evolve.
Guy Pierce will probably play that character in PROMETHEUS.
Looks like they are not sticking to the 20ft tall Engineers, more like 8ft tall and that is inside the suit.
So if there is a chestbuster from theses creature they will probably not end up being bigger or taller than the creature we already know.

The xenos and facehuggers are not in PROMETHEUS, but there will be still the parasite lifecycle, seems like some sort of slug/ serpent is involved this time.
Giving birth trough the guts of the host to a new race of creature, a creature that will probably bare some resemblance to the xeno since it will be the result of the same biotechnology.

My theory about the Derelict is that he has been crashed for eons on LV426, his cargo the eggs are an already "old" in use bioweapon (Scott said the ship is a weapon transporter on route to war but against who?), since PROMETHEUS takes place only 37 years before ALIEN it will not show the birth of the xeno as we know it, no proto xeno, but to an all new race.
Or Scott will just say that the space jockey suit had an accelered fosilisation because of the weather on LV426 or because of its design or some excuse to make it work...

No actually they refer to them as "Bugs". But you're missing my point. "Xenomorph" simply means "Alien Form". Those creatures are an Alien Form. So it's appropriate. Just like it would be appropriate for an Alien to call a human a "Xenomorph". And it's a term that's used in the film so it's more official than some fan-made term like "Yautja" for Predators. :lol

I'm not saying it should be the only term used to describe the Aliens.. just saying it's ONE term that CAN be used.

Uh, no.

I will say this for the millionth time...

BASED ON THE ATMOSPHERE of the entire franchise, the fear the Xenomorph brought, etc..The fact that there are (according to Cameron) other intelligent races, and Alien species deadlier than anything what we have on Earth (enough to have a team of Marines drop in and battle them..) makes almost no sense.

It just doesn't fit with the franchise. It takes away the fear the Xenomorph brought.

And each comment made by the characters "It's a bug hunt", etc..could EASILY be interpreted the other way, and would make MUCH MORE SENSE to be interpreted that way considering, once again, the atmosphere and vibe of the movies..

So you didn't "school" me on ____...and that whole issue plays an incredibly minute part in "understanding the movie harhar".

"In Space No One Can Hear You Scream"...apparently its actually "In Space, Arcturians, Giant Bugs And Other Various Alien Species We Like To Get "********" From...can hear you scream"

Yeah but Aliens takes place 57 years later!!! What's to say these marines have never encountered this type of Alien before the film? Aside from the company being portrayed as having no prior knowledge.

Which they did have! :panic:
