I tried dremeling out the SS dome and it did improve the look considerably when placed correctly. However, when I put the Hasbro dome on, also having to dremel out the inside, it was like night and day. I like the SS dome but for me the Hasbro is more accurate because it's larger, has a wider flare, and a more natural shape as a-posed to the narrower top that fits on the head and its overall shortness. It's larger from front to back top to bottom and side to side. IMHO the sideshow dome makes Vader look like the little Dutch boy. But that's just me. I say get a hasbro and try it out. If you don't like it you haven't ruined your Vader.

yeah... I searched around, but no tutorials... the inside of my dome is dremmeled out... no supports left... but it's not sliding back over the neck enough... might have to remove some of the top of his head...

scared...

Take some poster tac (the putty that doesn't dry, but holds up pictures) and use a glob of that to help get the dome in just the right position. Its not a permanent glue, but will allow you to get the look you want w/o a lot of extra surgery.

I'm not so worried about gluing... but about carving away his head to make it sit right...

good idea about the blu-tack tho!!!
thanks!

You do NOT have to remove any material from the Vader mask with the Hasbro dome. For that matter, you don't need to remove much from the helmet. The mounting spike has 4 ribs that can go,but the spike is actually good to keep, as it provides a locater;you just have to drill a second hole for it.The simple fact is that the SST helmet is too narrow and short to be accurate.Good luck finding one;Hurricane apparently has a mold, but he's oos at the moment(we allwish him well)...PS

Here are a few more pics of my Sideshow Vader with Hasbro dome. Little bit better lighting. I'll post some comparison shots of the two domes when I get a chance.

that's a nice mod using the hasbro helmet. i guess matching the paint with the face armor makes it even better!

to those who are having a hard time getting a hasbro dome, the original SS dome ain't so bad to use. there are some tutorials here and are really worth backtracking. ive made some mods with mine using the instructions provided by the masters. pictures below with the original SS dome:

did my own version of a vader comparison:

all one has to do is dremel the inner workings of the SST helmet down to nothing... smooth them away and the helmet will be able to be fitted with a much better result.

That last comparison pic is FABULOUS!!!!! problems with the overall sculpt of the helmet... but the dome size looks just right!!!!

yay!!!!
thanks so much!!!

modded mine up today... but my stupid FTP is messed... any good FTP progs for mac??? I wanna upload my pics!!

Could'nt find the Specs thread, so i thought i'd post here.

i was going through my Collectible invoices and found the one for this Vader, it cost a mere £75 at retail for me.

We sure have come a long (more expensive!!!) way

Hmm, that's regular price for me. . . and still the most expensive SS fig I own.

thinking of selling/trading this figure as theres more things i want! i know this goes for quite a bit on ebay and rarely pops up on there! anyone think id get a HT blade OR spidey for it in a trade??

Blade highly, highly unlikely as to be almost miraculous. Spidey... just not too sure who would trade their latest and greatest HT figure for a Vader tbh. You'd be better off hocking him off on ebay and putting the coin towards one of these I'd say.

Keep an eye out for a new Vader in 2012 and make sure you offload him before then :wink1:

another more accurate vader is coming? jheeze!

yeah i thought exactly what u said about spidey! prolly go the ebay route cheers!

It's nice to see that the Sideshow helmet modification debate is still alive & well here over a year since this figure was released. But, looking at chRd's photo, I can't help but wonder if he was inspired by the comparison pic I posted here nearly a year ago of my own modified Vader.
