Spook was just incredible this year. Last year, even though I won a chat contest, I had no idea what spook was all about. The year before I got my spook kit but never participated cause I hadn't a clue about it. Goes to show how much I read. But this year I went over to chat, started looking around the site more and it became an addiction.

It really was the most awfully awesome time ever. I say awful because of sitting in one spot for so many hours and such. But it was all worth it and I'd do it for another week straight if it was still going on.

The last big prize at the end was a bit weird... MadCow was also clearly first on my screen (There was actually 4 typed answers between his and the winner's answers) and his was correctly spelled. The mods were very adamant that spelling had to be exact, but the winner's answer was missing the - in pin-up. I know it's silly to harp on that, but a couple of people did miss prizes for spelling errors.


I certainly don't feel it was rigged at all (it took a long time for the answer to show up, it was a hard question and there was LOTS of time for other people to answer), but I do feel it's a shame it was a bit marred by a weird call. If anything, they should have re-done it to ensure a clear winner. Anyhow, Bari won and I'm sure he's very happy and I don't see any of this reflecting on him at all. Dennis made the call so congrats on his awesome score.

Ah well.. all I know is I completely choked on the question and am still Big Babyless

The whole thing REALLY struck a sour chord with me that night but I've gotten over it, what's done is done. I certainly still feel that they didn't call it a fair shot, punctuation and all (I had it typed same as him but took a second to correct the spelling as I knew it was crucial). As for the entry time, I saw it, you saw it and I know someone else said they saw it. However, the mods stuck to their guns even upon questioning it. Alex was nice, Chris got pissed and Dennis just never even responded. So I'm dropping it. I've got more to lose than to gain trying to fight it. Sideshow was more than generous with everything else this Spooktacular and getting to meet, BS and have fun with peeps like you, Ozz, Avfin and all the other BANweeweeOUNTS is all that matters to me ...

Same here. The chat contests especially are enough to make you hyper-paranoid. Actually, all of Spooktacular can do that. Like being in a haunted house just *waiting* for a freebie or PO to jump out at you. You know it's going to happen, but when!!? And where?

Only reason I got anything is cause I was paying close attention when others were distracted/asleep, and I was lucky. I was very lucky with my big one - the Jaws Maquette. That 'contest' came without warning from the MOTW. When she started quoting Chief Brody for no good reason, I had to reply, not expecting it meant anything other than she likes good movie quotes - "We're gonna need a bigger boat." That was the first quote contest they did for this Spook.

Congrats Sundeep. I am highly jealous of that Jaws Maquette. That may just be my new target win for Spook 2010.

Also, has everyone that won a chat contest with Chris (only Chris) received their confirmation emails? His contest is the only email I haven't received yet.

No, but I think they said to give 'em two weeks. If you don't get a shipping quote by then, contact customer service and they'll help you out.

In my experience the freebies and discounts go out first and the contest prizes get taken care later.
