That Japanese woman got a great start in the mens' 100m last night.
I'd love for someone, anyone, to explain the free kick in the Canadian box that was awarded to USA (when the Canadian netminder had the ball ), which was then followed by a handball penalty call, allowing Wambach a chance from the penalty spot that she did not miss, leveling the score at 3-3 in the 80th minute.
Brutal officiating.
The way ctv explained it is that the keeper cannot hold the ball for more than 6 seconds and it was called delay of game but it is extremely rare to get called out on it usually just a warning. Then the second call, only if the player has intention with the hands should it be called and you can clearly see she was defending herself or it would have hit her chest and they called it hand ball.
Shortly after, there wasnt much coverage on it but there was a kick by the us that went over the end line and the us player kicked it back in at the canadian player and bounced back out and the ref gave a corner kick to the us! Lol clearly the refs wanted the us to win, it was destiny. I had a fun time cursing at the tv though I want to see how much karma there might be in the finals.
I'm familiar with the rule-- The fact that it was called for that moment demonstrates the poor officiating (especially as Solo soon afterwards kept the ball even longer). And as I watched the entire game I too saw the ball that went over the end line that was given to the US as a corner--- brutal, brutal, officiating.
If roles were reversed and Canada had won with these calls we'd be hearing about it non-stop.
Chris Hoy makes me proud to be British
A complete legend
Congrats to Misty and Kerri! Amazing feat!
I hope Japan defeats the USA women's soccer team.
Sore loser much?
yup Wonder if the USA paid that ref to throw the game?

Yep, they paid more than the Canadians did.
Wouldn't that be bizarre if USA did pay the Norwegian Ref (years later) throw the game and USA Womens soccer actually won gold? I wonder what would happen and will the medal change hands?
