Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

It was ____.

I thought it was the olympics hosted by the UK? Like, could it have been a more communist opening? Where was the britishness? Why didnt we have a Vulcan flying over with the red arrows? Where was the rolling stones or Pink Floyd? Paul mcartney who cant even sing and was ____e anyway. A laughably terrible 'queen' parachuting down? Why didnt we have old minis doing a drive in as a reference to Italian job; quintessentially british and iconic film? We have a strong history in automotive and motorsport, why was there nothing of that? The james bond thing was more insulting than funny.

Britain through the ages? Nice thought, but it was still rubbish.

Danny boyle of all people, spent £27million on this utter wank? He only had 2 films that were actually good; Trainspotting and 28 days later, and we've paid this tosser to blow our money on this crap?

Muse, who were once great, made an absolutly horrible 'olympics official song theme thing' thats just laughable. Its just an utter waste of money. £11billion were spending on this crap, £11billion which could be spent on improving our roads, getting more nurses not the tossers who do 3-day a week and go on holiday all the time GP's and 100k a year doctors, we could have put money into better education and actually improving half the schools which are falling down, EMA couldve returned and we would still have over half of that money left.

This country has gone to ____. all the money spent on this crap......

I hear ya, came into this thread fearing it would be all "yay yay arn't the olympics so great" and at least there is one voice of reason.

The only reason london got the olympics was to regenerate stratford (toilet) with all the sponsership money from mickey dees and the other coperates who didn't even turn up to the seats allocated to them.:gah:

Where I live addington (toilet) there has been a 12 year old girl missing since friday (tia sharpe, probabley abbducted and dead) but has been shoved to the end or sidelined on the news to pat ourselves on the back with how many medals we've won:cuckoo:

I know the world goes on and she can't have the majority of the airtime but seems we've got our priorities mixed up big time.

This is just disgusting.
I have no words just utter disgust and hate towards anybody that would allow this to happen to their own child.
Torture or training? Inside the brutal Chinese gymnasium where the country's future Olympic stars are beaten into shape

Oh and that guy that was arrested for tweeting nonsense should have been given a warning but not jailed.
Whats the point of wasting resources and time on this idiot putting him in jail is just a waste of money and sends out the wrong message.

On a lighter note, sort of

Solo saved the day at the end, that was scary. I thought the Wambach was gonna strike at the end there too, just missed the header. Just shows how easily things can go one way or another in soccer.

I'm surprized there's no mention of the USA and their shirts in here. They're making a big deal about it I guess on Twitter and on Yahoo. :lol

:clap

I'm from the same town. This will be of significance to no one really.

:wave ..just caught the end of the fight earlier, not been really following the Olympics but ya that girl is pretty lethal, I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of her!:horror:panic:

The US has been killing it with the medals these last two days. A___on Eaton, world's greatest athlete. :rock

Yeah, finally starting to really kick ass. I'm not gonna lie I want the most golds and the most metals. I want the US as the top nation and everyone else looking up at us.

Since I saw very little of the Olympics, what does this mean?

I'm guessing it's referring to tweet she sent out saying that she was going out to a club. For some reason it's big news because she's 18. Over there she's legal drinking age and just won 2 gold medals, she should party a bit. :chug

I didn't see any of her matches, I was in work for every single one. Although to be honest I don't follow boxing generally and I'm not particularly interested in the Olympics myself.

Anyway if shes proper famous now I can add her to my short list of famous people I've walked past. Saw her in the pub once too.

Oh big deal. The drinking age should be 18 here as well. You can get married at 18, go to war at 18, get put to death at 18, smoke cigs, drive a car even younger, but you can't drink, or buy porn, despite being a legal adult. :lol
